The heavy doors closed behind them with a soft click, sealing off the world outside. The king's private study was dimly lit by golden sconces, their glow casting long shadows across the stone walls. It was a chamber built for strategy and secrets. And tonight, it would hold both.
Aldric moved behind his desk but didn't sit. His sharp gaze remained fixed on Selene as she took her seat across from him, the silence between them taut with unspoken weight.
"You said there's something I need to know," he said, voice calm but edged with steel.
Selene exhaled slowly, fingers brushing over the folds of her robe as if grounding herself. She didn't dance around the truth.
