"Husband, the fireworks are so beautiful," Primrose said, her voice filled with awe as Edmund leapt onto their balcony.
The fireworks were still bursting across the night sky, and palace staff hurried outside when they heard the explosions, thinking the palace was under attack, only to find out that their king and queen were simply showing off their affection in public again.
Primrose could faintly hear the staff's thoughts, most of them grumbling about how Edmund had completely ruined things for every man in Noctvaris. Thanks to him, women all across the kingdom now believed their husbands weren't being romantic enough.
"I made it last minute," Edmund said quietly, his voice low and calm. "For a moment, I thought I'd fail."
Primrose raised an eyebrow. "What happens if it fails? The colors turn ugly?"
Edmund averted his gaze, clearing his throat before replying, "It could cause a massive explosion, one strong enough to destroy the palace tower."
