Florence's gaze softened instantly and reached across to pat her head.
"Thank you for understanding, dear."
Kiera held her mother's gaze for a moment. Then her eyes flicked sideways to Brandon.
"I'm sorry… for earlier. Grabbing you like that. Yelling. I just… I didn't know. And it felt like you were lying to me all along."
With a faint smile, he replied "It's okay. I understand your emotions."
