Caius walked into the dining room to find that everyone was already seated. His mother glared at him as soon as he walked through the door, while Caira refused to meet his eyes.
No one spoke a word as he sat down, and it felt incredibly awkward. Caius was glad they no longer had any guests, as that would complicate things further.
The only silver lining right now was that he knew breakfast would be cordial; however, he had no idea what would happen afterward. Caius was sure he would be able to handle anything, as long as it didn't involve his father.
He could make excuses to his mother and lie to her, but his father followed through with his words, and Caius would not be able to make excuses this time. It didn't help that it would endanger Rose.
