Chapter 299 - Your Trauma Is My Opening

"Obito-kun!"

The moment those words echoed through the warped stillness of Kamui, Obito's world stopped.

For a heartbeat, just one, everything went white.

"…Rin?" The name slipped out of his mouth on its own, hoarse and disbelieving.

His Rin.

The girl who smiled at him even when he failed. The girl who believed in him when no one else did. The girl whose death had shattered the world and remade it into something cruel and hollow.

His vision locked onto the figure in front of him.

The face was hers.

The posture, the tilt of the head, the faint warmth in the eyes, it was all wrong and perfect at the same time.

Then the realization slammed into him like a blade.

It wasn't her.

It was him.

Boundless rage exploded outward, his chakra surging violently, distorting the Kamui space itself. The warped ground cracked and twisted as Obito lunged forward, killing intent flooding every direction.

"Are you going to hit me, Obito-kun?"

He froze.

Ren, still wearing Rin's face, leaned back slightly, hands pressed to her cheeks, eyes widening in mock embarrassment. A faint blush spread across her face as she swayed in place.

"Kya~ how naughty."

Something inside Obito snapped.

"You!" His voice came out broken, raw with fury. He swung without thinking, a brutal, desperate strike meant to erase the mockery in front of him.

Ren hopped back lightly, just out of reach, boots skidding across invisible space.

"You know we can't do this, Obito-kun," Ren said in her voice, sing-song and sweet. "We're not married yet."

Obito's teeth ground together.

Ren (Rin) clasped his hands behind his back and tilted his head, smiling innocently.

"I'll marry you if you become Hokage."

The words hit harder than any jutsu.

Obito faltered.

Just for an instant.

Ren's smile sharpened.

"…Or," he added casually, "maybe I'll marry Kakashi-kun instead."

The Kamui space shuddered.

Obito's chakra spiked so violently it felt like the dimension itself recoiled. His breathing turned ragged, vision narrowing as a familiar, suffocating pressure filled his chest.

"Kakashi-kun is so smart," Ren continued, circling lightly, never letting Obito close the distance. "Cool, calm and stronger too."

That was enough.

Obito roared and surged forward again, abandoning all restraint.

Ren's expression shifted slightly, not expecting it to work this well, however, in the same instant Obito moved, Ren's hands snapped together.

[Wind Style: Scattered Wind Blades]

Dozens of compressed air blades screamed forward, tearing through Kamui space like invisible guillotines. Obito twisted desperately, raising his blade and detonating seals mid-air to deflect them, sparks and pressure waves exploding around him.

He couldn't phase.

Not here.

Inside Kamui, phasing meant pushing parts of himself out, and outside, he could already sense it.

Clones.

More of them.

A lot more.

Their presence pressed against the boundary of the dimension like predators circling a wounded beast. He didn't even know when Ren had the time to place so many clones, but now wasn't the time.

Obito gritted his teeth and forced himself to focus.

'One touch.'

That was all he needed.

One solid touch and Ren would be expelled, forced back into the real world. Once that happened, Obito could retreat fully, abandon this cursed battlefield and disappear.

But Ren knew that too.

Which was why he never stopped moving.

Ren danced just beyond reach, flickering from seal to seal within Kamui as if the dimension itself belonged to him. Each step was precise, economical, taunting in its ease.

Every time Obito lunged, Ren was already somewhere else.

Every time Obito tried to corner him, his speed betrayed him.

And worse, Ren kept talking.

"You know," Ren said lightly, weaving between two lunges, "I always wondered what Rin would think if she saw you now."

Obito's blade whistled past Ren's neck, missing by inches.

"She believed in you so much," Ren continued, tone softening just enough to hurt. "Believed you'd protect everyone. Believed you'd become a hero."

Obito felt his vision blur red.

"I'm sure," Ren added, dodging another slash, "she'd be so proud of what you've become."

"SHUT UP!" Obito screamed, slamming his palm down and releasing a violent burst of chakra that tore through the space.

Ren flipped backward, landing smoothly, Rin's face still smiling.

"You're angry," Ren said calmly. "But you're also tired, injured and mentally unstable"

Obito knew it was true.

He could feel it.

His chakra reserves were dropping faster than he liked. The earlier chakra siphoned then the fight with the clones, the constant forced materialization, everything was adding up. Kamui was efficient, but it wasn't free, he never expected that someone like him would also have to think about chakra.

Ren, on the other hand, he was managing his chakra carefully.

Obito saw it now.

The way Ren avoided unnecessary jutsu. The way he limited chakra usage. The way every movement served multiple purposes, positioning, pressure, setup.

This wasn't just mockery.

It was control.

Ren suddenly dropped the act.

The smile faded.

Rin's face dissolved like mist, revealing Ren's own features beneath, calm, sharp, and utterly unamused.

"Alright," Ren said, voice steady. "Fun's fun."

Obito tensed.

Ren rolled his shoulders, eyes bright with focus rather than laughter now.

"I've got about fifty percent chakra left to spend on you," he continued casually. "Thirty's reserved in case I need to leave in a hurry."

"And," Ren added, stepping back into a ready stance, "20 is for playing with you."

Outside Kamui, Obito could feel the clones were fully assembled and waiting.

Inside, Ren spread his hands slightly, wind chakra coiling faintly around his fingers.

"Come on," he said. "One good touch. That's all you need, right?"

Obito stared at him, chest heaving, blood dripping freely now.

For the first time since gaining Kamui he felt cornered, even inside the space that was supposed to be his.

~

The Kamui dimension stretched endlessly in every direction, a warped, colorless expanse where gravity felt optional and distance lied whenever it felt like it. The ground beneath their feet was solid one moment, brittle the next, fractured stone floating in slow suspension.

Ren stood still at the center of it all.

Obito watched him from a distance, chakra rolling off him in thick, oppressive waves. He could feel it clearly now, Ren wasn't bluffing earlier. The kid was running on a deliberately restricted reserve, throttling himself with precision that bordered on insanity.

Twenty percent and yet he looked comfortable.

That alone irritated Obito.

He stepped forward but Ren's hands moved faster.

[Wind Style: Compressed Shear]

The air between them shrieked as layered pressure collapsed inward, not as a single blade but a field, microcurrents folding into each other, shredding space itself. Obito twisted aside, his back snapping as the attack carved a trench through the warped ground where he'd been standing.

He didn't stop moving.

[Fire Style: Great Flame Burst]

A massive surge of fire erupted outward, wide and violent, flooding the space Ren occupied. The flames weren't subtle, they were meant to overwhelm, to force Ren to burn chakra defending or dodge recklessly.

Ren didn't do either.

[Water Style: Thin Veil]

A paper-thin sheet of water flashed into existence, not thick enough to extinguish the flames, just enough to bend them. Steam exploded outward as the fire was redirected sideways, spiraling away in a corkscrew pattern that detonated harmlessly against distant floating stone.

At the same time.

[Lightning Style: Pulse Thread]

A needle-thin arc of lightning snapped forward through the steam, aimed precisely at Obito's center mass.

Obito cursed under his breath and threw himself sideways, the bolt grazing his shoulder and tearing through his flesh. The sting lingered, muscles spasming briefly.

He landed, already moving again but Ren didn't give him room.

[Earth Style: Rising Fang Array]

The ground beneath Obito fractured upward into jagged spears, not in a straight line but staggered, timed half a beat apart, formed purely from Ren's own chakra. Obito leapt, boots barely clearing the first wave.

[Wind Style: Reversal Current]

The air above him twisted violently, slamming him sideways mid-jump. He crashed hard against a floating slab of stone, rolling to absorb the impact.

Ren exhaled slowly.

He made no wasted motion, neither did he waste any chakra.

Obito pushed himself upright, irritation sharpening into something darker. He slammed his palm down.

[Earth Style: Crumbling Basin]

An earthen terrain formed and buckled violently, collapsing inward in a massive sinkhole meant to drag Ren down and limit his movement.

Ren simply stepped sideways.

[Lightning Style: Ground Skitter]

Electric chakra surged into his feet and dispersed outward, destabilizing the collapsing earth just enough to give him a path. He slid along the edge of the collapse, never losing balance, and flicked his wrist.

[Fire Style: Ember Scatter]

Dozens of thumb-sized embers burst outward in a wide arc, each one unstable, spinning erratically. Obito raised an arm to block but they detonated behind him.

Ren had bent the airflow again, subtly curving their trajectories. The explosions weren't powerful individually, but together they staggered Obito, concussive force hammering into his back.

Obito snarled and surged forward, finally closing the distance.

Ren's eyes sharpened.

[Water Style: Sliding Torrent]

A sudden surge of water erupted beneath Obito's feet, slick and fast-moving, throwing off his momentum. Before Obito could adjust Ren's next attack came.

[Wind Style: Pressure Lock]

The air around his torso compressed violently, pinning him in place for just a fraction of a second.

Ren used that second.

[Lightning Style: Arc Palm]

He didn't throw the lightning, he placed it. The chakra leapt from his hand and detonated point-blank against Obito's chest, blasting him backward in a crackling burst of force.

Obito skidded across the warped ground, coughing, smoke rising from his body

He stopped himself with a snarl.

'Enough.'

[Fire Style: Dragon Flame Formation]

A massive construct of fire surged outward, taking the shape of a roaring dragon, jaws open wide as it barreled toward Ren. The chakra density was high, this wasn't meant to test, it was meant to end the exchange.

Ren's breath slowed.

[Water Style: Spiral Break]

A rotating column of water formed in front of him, spinning faster and faster until it became a translucent drill. The fire dragon collided with it, steam erupting violently and then the spiral collapsed inward, sucking the fire into itself and extinguishing it in a violent implosion.

Before the steam cleared.

[Wind Style: Slice]

A crescent of compressed air tore through the fog.

Obito barely managed to cross his arms in time. The blade carved deep into his forearm, blood spraying in a fine arc before he was forced back again.

Ren landed lightly, chest finally rising a bit heavier now.

Obito stared at him, breathing harder now, anger simmering beneath the surface.

'This kid…'

He pushed chakra through his system more aggressively now, caring less about efficiency.

[Earth Style: Heavy Boulder Barrage]

Massive chunks of stone tore free from the environment and hurled themselves toward Ren from multiple angles.

Ren didn't block, he wove through them.

[Wind Style: Vector Shift]

The air currents twisted sharply, altering the trajectories of the boulders mid-flight. Two collided with each other, shattering. Another slammed into a distant slab. One grazed Ren's shoulder, pain flared but he was already moving.

[Lightning Style: Chain Flicker]

A series of rapid, low-output lightning bursts launched from his fingertips, not to kill but to disrupt forcing Obito to keep dodging, keep adjusting.

Obito pushed through one of them, taking the shock head-on, teeth gritted.

He was done playing, now he didn't care if he was stabbed, burned or anything else, now he just wanted to finish this fight.

Ren's eyes narrowed as he realized there would be no more spacing games.

He reached to his belt and drew steel.

The sword slid free with a clean, quiet sound, blade catching the warped light of the dimension.

Obito roared and closed the distance, chakra flaring wildly as he reached out and Ren stepped into the attack.

The world slowed.

Steel flashed and the blade passed through Obito's right shoulder in a single, perfect arc.

There was no resistance at all, it was as if he was cutting through butter, however with how much chakra he put in this strike this was to be expected.

The arm separated cleanly, spinning away as blood erupted in a violent spray.

Obito screamed, the sound raw and unrestrained as he staggered back, clutching the stump with his remaining hand.

His palm still brushed Ren's chest just barely but Ren felt the pull, the displacement and this time he went with it.

As his body began to vanish, he leaned close enough for Obito to hear him clearly.

"This is the interest," Ren murmured calmly, voice steady despite the pain blooming through him, "for injuring me on our first meet."

The Kamui space snapped.

Ren vanished.

The severed arm vanished with him.

Obito collapsed to one knee, screaming into the empty void, blood pooling beneath him as the dimension echoed with his rage and agony.

"RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

The fight was over and he had lost.

{I think the fight could be even better with some details added, however I felt like this should be pure action, the next chapter I would explain many things regarding the fight and we'd also be moving ahead with the arc in general now that Ren is free.}

{Tell me what you guys thought about the fight, if there was something lacking, I'll take it into consideration for the next time Ren and Obito fight.}
