Chapter 316 - Chapter 313: The Avengers

[Scene 1: Global Destruction]

Kino had begun destroying the capitals of various nations.

The growing fear of humanity only continued to fuel his power.

"Hahaha! It's not enough. Not nearly enough. I still have even greater power!"

This time, Kino turned his attention to major cities, selecting them at random and unleashing destruction.

Heroes from around the world speculated that the Demon King had gone completely insane. They began to form teams in an attempt to stop him.

Among them was Spider-Woman.

But the result?

Total defeat.

No one could stop him. Just as Spider-Woman was about to die by Kino's hand, Thor exploded with all his power. He resisted Kino's heat vision and, in a flash, tore open a spatial rift, pulling Spider-Woman into it.

And just like that, she landed in this unfamiliar world—this unfamiliar version of herself.

These were all the memories Spider-Woman had.

[Scene 2: A Parallel Gwen]

"How ridiculous. There's actually another version of me—and of Pamela too?" Kino muttered, withdrawing his mental probe from Ghost-Spider's mind.

"Another version of you and Pamela?" Venom frowned. "That's impossible."

In this world, both were undocumented, with no records. That meant the ones in front of them were likely fakes.

"Can I keep her then?" Harley looked at the unconscious Spider-Woman. "She's not the real Little Spider, but I don't mind."

"No," Gwen replied firmly. "She's not a possession."

At that moment, Spider-Woman began to stir groggily.

The moment she recognized Kino, she snapped awake.

"Demon King!"

Her voice overflowed with rage and hatred.

Kino understood why—her father had died by his own hand in her world.

As Spider-Woman rushed at him, Kino sighed helplessly. He raised his hand, intending to wake her up a little.

SLAP! SLAP! SLAP! SLAP!

With four sharp slaps from Gwen, the blazing fury in Spider-Woman's eyes instantly vanished, replaced by clarity and confusion.

Everyone present froze in stunned silence, watching Gwen.

"You need to get a grip! He's not the same Kino from your world. And your parents wouldn't want to see you like this," Gwen said, her gaze complicated.

Spider-Woman fully regained her senses. The stinging pain on her face grounded her in reality—this wasn't her world.

As memories of her parents, comrades, and her destroyed world flooded her mind, she broke down in tears.

"Daddy... Mom... everyone... they're all gone…"

Clutching her head, she cried in agony.

Gwen embraced her gently.

If their roles had been reversed, she might not have been any stronger.

"Thank you," Spider-Woman whispered after her tears had dried.

"It's alright. After all, we're both Gwen," Gwen replied with a gentle smile.

Spider-Woman stood up, wiped away her tears, and scanned the room. Her gaze landed on Kino.

"The Demon King in our world has completely lost it. My comrades and I failed, but we did uncover his plan. He intends to come to this world. You all need to prepare," she said seriously.

Her swollen face, courtesy of Gwen's slaps, made her look like a red steamed bun, which nearly made everyone chuckle.

Kino held back a laugh and nodded. "Understood. Thanks for the warning."

Realizing everyone's strange looks, Spider-Woman awkwardly tugged at the corners of her mouth. She knew she didn't look great.

"I'm sorry I almost attacked you earlier. I'll bring a gift to apologize next time."

With that, she left.

[Scene 3: Hidden Truths]

"Will she be able to survive on her own in this world?" Gwen asked, concerned. She then turned to the others who were all staring at Kino.

"What? Is something wrong with me?"

"You're so pure, Little Spider," Harley said with a teasing smile. "I like you more and more."

She didn't say it aloud, but her instincts told her something was off about Spider-Woman.

"What do you mean? Are you saying she's lying? But didn't Kino already read her memories?" Gwen was confused.

"Not all of them are lies," Venom said, shaking his head. "But her appearance was way too coincidental. She ran into Harley and you right after arriving."

"The most suspicious part is her memory—it includes a version of Kino," Venom added.

Jean (Phoenix) spoke next. "Altering memories is a simple task for a mental master. Even Professor X can rewrite decades of memories without being discovered."

"I'll bring her back right now!" Gwen said anxiously and rushed toward the door.

Kino stopped her.

"The enemy is in the dark while we're out in the open. If we eliminate her now, we'll lose our lead. Let her stay. If I'm right, she'll be back."

Gwen nodded, but her face turned red when she remembered comforting a possible enemy.

"So... you all knew?" she asked, glancing around.

Everyone nodded with knowing smiles—except Jean, who shook her head honestly.

"How embarrassing…" Gwen muttered, burying her face in Kino's chest.

[Scene 4: The Act Continues]

Over the next few days, Spider-Woman visited again, claiming to apologize. Everyone played along, curious about her real intent.

But she never returned after that.

Instead, she roamed the city like a vigilante, helping those in need, and occasionally watching George and Maria from the shadows.

Her behavior mimicked Gwen's in every way.

Even Kino began to doubt his suspicions—perhaps her memories weren't altered after all.

[Scene 5: The Mastermind Watches]

Elsewhere…

The Leader watched everything in New York through Spider-Woman's eyes.

"What exactly are you doing?" Loki growled. "You're not gathering intel. You're not trying to win the Demon King's trust. And you even warned them about our plan!"

"This is all part of the plan," the Leader said calmly.

"Plans, plans, nothing but plans! Not a single one has been executed. If you don't act soon, I'll do it myself," Loki snapped.

The Leader paused, then said, "Fine. You can visit Lab 2. You'll find a secret weapon we've prepared. That might restore your faith in my plan."

"Hmph. It better not disappoint me," Loki scoffed, his footsteps fading as he walked away.

Once he was gone, one of the sub-leaders asked, "Can we really trust Loki? He grew up in Asgard."

"I've never believed in trust," the Leader said, eyes fixed on the screen. "As I said from the beginning, we're just a group of Avengers. As long as our goals align, that's all that matters."

He continued:

"Loki is a Frost Giant by birth, with a deep yearning for the throne. But his identity made that dream impossible. After Odin's betrayal and the destruction of his race in the Battle of New York, even if he had no emotional bond with his kin, blood ties aren't so easily erased.

And now, with the throne seized by the Demon King, Loki desires vengeance more than any of us."

Quote of the Chapter

"The most dangerous enemies are not those who attack openly, but the ones who smile while planning your downfall."
