JUDE
"I'm happy to hear you are well … yes, grandma," I chuckle, before nodding. "I will … yes. It was wonderful, now we are heading back home … yes."
I listen to her for a few more moments, my chest feeling light, my mood improving the longer I listen to her scolding me when I told her that I had to get an IV because I was dehydrated. To hear her speaking with energy, telling me how her surgery went well and that she would be discharged in two days … it was all that I needed to hear.
When I woke up thirty minutes ago, I saw her text asking me how I performed and how I did on my first day at work —her words —and I couldn't help but call her. I feel much better after resting for so long.
"I will, and I love you too," I respond, smiling fondly. "I will talk to you soon. If you need anything … yes … I know you don't want to, but I am still going to ask … yes … I love you more. You are my favourite girl in the world … bye, I love you."
