- '?Those damn Digletts are pests! Because of them, we can't even proceed with our dam construction!'
After Ash hitched a ride with Gary to reach the task requester, the foreman who posted the mission wouldn't stop complaining. After listening to his rant, Ash and Gary understood the situation: they were trying to build a dam here, but the construction materials couldn't be delivered due to the Digletts.
"Hah, who told you guys to have nothing better to do than blow up mountains for fun? It's already good enough that they didn't attack directly. Anyone else want coffee?" Ash sat leisurely at the table prepared by Meowth, sipping his freshly brewed coffee while eating.
He couldn't be more relaxed, enjoying his cake and coffee. Misty, Suzy, Gary, and even Gary's girlfriends were all sitting together taking a break. The only one not resting was probably Brock.
"Get me another cup, thanks. But why are the Digletts trying to stop the dam construction?" Gary asked Ash to refill his coffee, still puzzled by the Digletts' behavior. Ash shrugged and said, "Who knows? But generally, when Pokémon act collectively, it's probably because humans have encroached on their territory in some way."
Suzy stroked the Vulpix while asking curiously, 'Violating them?'
'That's right, just like how the King Muk thought humans were stealing their food when Team Rocket entered the sewers. And in times like these, my Meowth is the real hero. With him around, many problems can be solved through communication.'
Meanwhile, Meowth nodded while eating grilled fish and said, 'Actually, I've already resolved many issues that arose from miscommunication. So kid, you better show me some respect, got it?'
Seeing Meowth being so rude to him, Gary said helplessly, 'Really, I'm not a kid. And why am I the only one who has to show you respect? What about that guy Ash?'
"Ha, isn't it obvious, meow? Because—
'We're partners! Bwahahaha!'
'Pika pika!'
Watching Ash, Pikachu, and Meowth's shameless grins, Gary really wanted to punch someone.
'Hey, L over there, listen to me properly! This is a strategy against Diglett, you know? Don't tell me you don't want a free three-day, four-night hot spring voucher? It's free, you know!'
Glancing at the hot spring coupon in the uncle's hand, Ash and Gary scoffed. Then Gary patted Ash's shoulder and said to the uncle, 'Honestly, uncle, we're not really interested in that. To tell you the truth, that free coupon of yours—
—only exists because of my buddy here. Isn't it from that recent Continental Hotel promotion giveaway?
The uncle looked at Gary strangely, somewhat surprised, and asked, 'How did you know? Our free coupons were given by the Continental Hotel as thanks to the construction team for their help with the newly opened hot spring resort nearby. It really pains us to use them.'
'Oh, I see. Actually, that hot spring resort is his.' He looked at Ash, while Meowth made a call. The person on the other end of the communication was startled to see Meowth.
'Meowth-sama! What are your orders?'
'Have you ever given the construction team any free hot spring coupons, meow?'
'Yes. That construction team worked very diligently, so we gave them some complimentary hot spring coupons. Is there any issue?'
'No. But we happen to be heading over there soon, so please prepare to receive us.'
'Is the boss coming?⊥'
Meowth turned the communicator towards Ash, and the manager was startled upon seeing Ash.
'Boss?!⊥
'Ah. Get ready, we'll be there tonight. Prep: Gary, are you coming?'
Seeing Ash ask him, Gary froze for a moment, but then said, 'Of course I'm going, perfect chance to splurge a little!'
'Okay. Then prepare the VIP treatment! And...' Sneaking a glance at Brock, who was still asking Gary for his girlfriends' phone numbers, Ash quietly added, 'Have the Bros Squad and the fitness park ready. Their adorable little Brock is coming.'
'Yes!'
Ash, Gary, Meowth, and Pikachu exchanged dark smirks as they glanced at the oblivious Brock, while Misty and Suzy could only cover their mouths to stifle their laughter. Though they felt bad for Brock, it was better this way than causing trouble for others.
And just as they were saying those words, the Diglett appeared, heading straight for the truck the moment it showed up.
'This is no time for talk—hurry and stop them!'
Watching this uncle shrug now and then continue eating his cake and coffee, casually feeding a piece of sugar to some silly Psyduck who found the coffee too bitter.
'Aren't you going up, Ash?'
'Forget it, let's ask the Digletts what's going on first. I don't want to bite off more than I can chew.'
'Alright then, I'll take a little break too. By the way, do you still have any cake here?'
'Yes, Suzy made it. It tastes really good.'
Then Ash and his companions witnessed a farce as the summoned trainers threw out their Poké Balls to no avail. The Pokémon refused to come out, and even the Poké Balls were returned by the Digletts.
Watching the chaotic scene unfold, Suzy shook her head with a laugh before heading off with Meowth to chat with the Digletts.
