Chapter 565 - Chapter 565: Watching the Descent

"Is that so? I understand. Thank you, Mordo. Please pass my thanks to Victor."

After saying that, Noah hung up the phone.

He leaned his head against one hand and fell into thought.

The person he had just spoken with was Mordo.

At present, Kamar-Taj was largely under Mordo's management, with the Ancient One rarely involving herself in daily affairs.

Under her deliberate guidance, the sorcerers had long understood one thing.

The true master of Kamar-Taj in the future was the Sorcerer Supreme.

Noah.

Since Noah had not yet formally taken office, and he was British, it was entirely reasonable for him to remain in the London Sanctum.

Mordo was the current manager of Kamar-Taj.

And he wasn't an ambitious man.

More importantly, Noah and Mordo shared an extremely close relationship.

They were fellow sorcerers of the same era.

True martial brothers.

To the others, this was practically a declaration.

Mordo handled things on the surface.

But the real authority already rested with Noah.

If something arose that Mordo couldn't deal with, it would naturally be handed to him.

Ordinary matters, however, stayed with Mordo.

Because of this, Mordo knew many details, and it was appropriate for Noah to ask him directly.

The confirmation Noah had just received made him slightly wary.

Kaecilius was behaving normally.

Living as usual.

However, he had been accepting more and more apprentices.

Some were even Fifth- and Sixth-Order sorcerers.

And these apprentices frequently left Kamar-Taj.

At first, Mordo sent people to follow them.

But the workload was overwhelming.

Kamar-Taj had many sorcerers, all highly capable.

But none of them were idle.

Kamar-Taj University needed people to teach and manage.

The Kamar-Taj Magic Awards needed people to organize and review materials.

In the end, Mordo had no choice but to abandon the tracking.

And he couldn't report this to the Ministries of Magic.

Internal matters of Kamar-Taj were handled internally.

Even if he told the Ministries of Magic, it wouldn't help.

Neither would the hidden magical organizations scattered across the world.

So Mordo could only focus his attention on Kaecilius himself.

Noah sighed softly.

He understood Mordo's difficulties.

Kamar-Taj did not restrict personal freedom.

There was truly nothing they could do about people leaving at will.

Still, Noah was absolutely certain of one thing.

The sorcerer William Moore, whom Nagini had mentioned to him, was definitely Kaecilius's apprentice.

"What's wrong, Noah?" Nagini asked when she saw his deep frown. "Did something happen?"

"Trouble?" Noah collected his thoughts. "I want to say it's troublesome. But thinking carefully, it's not that bad."

"It's just... disappointing."

"That fanaticism born from belief can rot so completely once it's nudged a little."

"And discard everything that came before."

Noah had watched Kaecilius fall step by step.

From a sorcerer who cherished his lost family.

To a gloomy man disappointed in everything.

Until finally, he became someone who fully embraced Dormammu's philosophy.

Someone who wanted to destroy everything.

Noah had tried to guide him.

But in the end, there was nothing left to save.

As for killing him directly-

Noah had thought about it.

More than once.

But it wasn't easy.

Stopping him?

He had planned to.

Before.

Now, Noah felt it was unnecessary.

He was already a Ninth-Order sorcerer.

At this level, he genuinely didn't think he needed to fear a Dormammu coming from across dimensions.

Of course, that was under the premise that he possessed the Time Stone.

As for copying Strange's approach and trying it personally-

Noah stroked his chin.

He hadn't decided yet.

He didn't know Dormammu's combat style.

Nor how much power Dormammu could wield when crossing dimensions.

Caution was still necessary.

Shaking his head, Noah stood and looked at Nagini.

"Let's go. We need to visit the Ministry of Magic."

"The Ministry of Magic?" Nagini tilted her head. "Then this really isn't simple."

"It's fine," Noah said calmly, spreading his hands. "Everything is still under control."

"I wouldn't be passively waiting."

"I started preparing the moment I noticed even a hint."

"You always do," Nagini nodded. "I'll go with you."

"The Ministry has taken good care of us these past few years."

"It's a good chance to thank them properly."

Strange and Everett arrived at Elara Komiya's residence.

Next door was the house of the person Komiya had asked Strange to investigate.

The same neighborhood.

Clearly an affluent area.

Strange scanned the surroundings.

The security was excellent.

The environment was pleasant.

But something made him uncomfortable.

There was a faint scent of blood in the air.

Extremely faint.

Almost imperceptible.

Only those highly sensitive to blood would notice it.

Vampires.

The bat demon he'd dealt with before.

Werewolves.

"It seems this time it really is a monster," Strange whispered to Everett.

"Oh?" Everett glanced at him. "You found something?"

"The smell of blood," Strange said quietly. "I enhanced my sense of smell the moment I got out of the car."

"It's very faint, but it's there."

"Can you tell what it is?"

"Not for sure. But it could be a werewolf. Or a vampire."

"Either way, the priority is figuring out what happened."

"And whether there's a body."

"Alright," Everett said. "Looks like we're working."

Strange nodded.

They were.

He looked at Komiya ahead of them.

Then at the house across the way.

And decided to start with Komiya's home.

"John, did you bring everything?" Strange asked softly as he followed Mrs. Komiya inside.

"Of course, Sherlock," Everett replied. "Including your strange herbs."

"By the way, what are those for?"

"Something that makes people talk," Strange whispered.

"You were right earlier. Komiya is strange."

"She's probably subconsciously trying to forget something."

"And I think it's important."

"You're planning to force it out?" Everett frowned. "That's cruel, Sherlock."

"It could ruin her."

Strange didn't answer.

He knew it wasn't ethical.

But he could guarantee one thing.

Mrs. Komiya would not remember what she was forced to forget.

Everett's bag didn't just contain a truth-inducing substance.

There was also a plant that could erase specific memories.

Possibly the prototype of the Obliviate spell.

Until Strange fully mastered that spell, this would do.

As they entered the house, Strange's brows knit tighter.

The smell of blood was strongest here.

That led to a disturbing thought.

Had Mrs. Komiya killed her friend herself?

"Please sit anywhere, Mr. Holmes," Miss Komiya said politely.

"Oh, about my friend-I haven't properly introduced her."

"Her name was Mia."

"Mia Lestrange."

"She was a psychologist."

"I see," Strange said as he and Everett sat on the sofa.

Everett observed Komiya's micro-expressions.

Strange continued asking.

"Her relatives. Her friends. Her relationships."

"Please be detailed."

Komiya nodded and began speaking earnestly.

Mia Lestrange.

Thirty-three years old.

A psychologist.

Her husband was Adam Lestrange, a financial company manager.

They lived happily.

They were even preparing to have a child.

Baby clothes were already bought.

Their social circles were healthy.

No enemies.

Competitors existed, but nothing hostile.

Strange frowned.

This didn't look like murder.

He stroked his chin.

"Recently," he asked, "were there any strangers entering or leaving the neighborhood?"

"Strangers?" Komiya thought for a moment. "I don't think so."

"Oh, right. Mia had a younger sister."

"Cassie."

"After Mia disappeared, she came to stay with Adam."

"He was nearly broken from searching for his wife."

"She's a good kid."

"Is that so..." Strange murmured.

He looked at Komiya.

Then lowered his voice.

"You're very sleepy, aren't you?"

"What?"

Komiya didn't understand.

She opened her mouth to ask again.

Then she saw it.

A faint golden glow.

Spreading across Strange's hands.
