Chapter 459 - Chapter 460: Kassandra

After chatting with Wick for a bit, Noah sent him on his way.

Whatever Wick chose to do in the future had nothing to do with him anymore. Noah was a man of his word. He wouldn't do anything excessive to ordinary people.

As for Wick's new identity, Noah handed that matter to Fury.

Through WeChat, Noah already knew it had been handled.

Although S.W.O.R.D. hadn't been officially established yet, everyone understood it was only a matter of time. Fury's authority hadn't been revoked-in fact, it had grown. Arranging a new identity for Wick was trivial.

Naturally, Fury didn't forget to recruit talent.

Noah's earlier question about whether Wick was willing to work for Fury was actually Fury asking Noah to ask on his behalf.

The answer wasn't urgent. Matters like that required thought.

After sending Wick to New York, Noah ignored the disbelief on his face and closed the portal.

He turned and looked at the two figures lying on the ground.

Originally, his target had only been the High Table member. As for that man's name, Noah couldn't be bothered to remember it. In his eyes, the man was already dead.

But Desmond gave him pause.

Noah hadn't planned to kill this unlucky guy who'd been accidentally saved by him. Thinking about it carefully, though, Desmond was also a bloodline descendant.

Noah stroked his chin.

If this guy was also a descendant of that person, wouldn't it be safer to take him along?

After some thought, Noah decided it was feasible.

He really didn't want to fight the ancestor of the Assassins.

Whether he could win or not was beside the point.

He simply didn't want to.

He'd liked that character far too much when he played the game. Now that he'd encountered her in reality, conflict was the last thing he wanted.

Noah raised his right hand.

A faint golden glow appeared on his finger.

The light flashed and flowed into Desmond's body.

Almost instantly, Desmond-who'd been knocked unconscious by Constantine-came to. He stayed on the ground, however, showing no intention of getting up.

"Get up," Noah said casually, not even looking at him. "I woke you myself. I know exactly how you're doing."

At the same time, he opened a portal.

"I have to say, you're really unlucky. Running into me twice in a row."

Twice?

Desmond was still dizzy, but those words snapped him back to clarity.

He remembered being instantly knocked down earlier. That voice... it sounded familiar.

Since pretending was pointless, Desmond raised his head.

The moment he saw Noah, he froze.

It was him.

The man who had killed Juno in the Isu temple.

The man who had turned into a giant dragon and wiped out an entire alien army in one strike.

A chill ran through Desmond's entire body.

So this was what he had encountered.

A wizard.

No wonder nothing he did worked. No wonder he'd been taken down without even understanding how.

"So it's you, my lord," Desmond said bitterly, rubbing his aching head as he stood. "The one before... was he also a wizard?"

"More or less," Noah shrugged. "Strictly speaking, he's an exorcist."

"An exorcist?"

"Yeah. Don't worry about it."

Noah glanced at him.

"By the way, after you left the temple, how did you end up in this hellhole?"

"My father suggested it. Because this place is also-"

"The Assassin Brotherhood?" Noah cut in. "I know. It is. Or was."

"It's corrupted now."

He shrugged, not lingering on the topic.

The Brotherhood had branches all over the world, but this one was the largest-and the most rotten. If not for that, why would every Assassin organization Noah ran into turn out to be villainous?

Desmond clearly understood that as well.

With ancestral memories, he knew exactly how far the Brotherhood had fallen. It had completely fractured. The only branch that still thrived had become nothing more than a gathering place for killers, its original creed long gone.

"Alright," Desmond sighed. "So... are you looking for me again for something?"

"Yes," Noah replied.

He frowned slightly, looking through the portal.

Below was nothing but isolated ocean.

Logically speaking, even if Atlantis had sunk, there should've been an island left behind. Layla and the others had used such an island to enter Atlantis.

So why did his lock on the Ninth Order's aura lead only to open sea?

Shaking his head, Noah turned back to Desmond.

"I know who your ancestors are," he said. "But what about your ancestors' ancestors?"

"Or to put it another way-do you know why Assassins and Templars became what they are now?"

Desmond hesitated.

"Conflicting ideals?"

"Exactly," Noah said.

"One represents freedom. Chaos."

"The other represents restraint. Order."

"When either side becomes unbalanced, someone appears to correct it, keeping chaos and order in equilibrium."

"That person was your ancestor."

"Our... ancestor?" Desmond swallowed hard. A thought struck him. "Was our ancestor also an Isu?"

"No," Noah shook his head. Then he paused. "An ordinary human."

"Similar to me."

Similar to you... and ordinary?

Desmond almost laughed.

Then he stopped.

He stared at the portal.

Combined with Noah's words, realization hit him like a hammer.

"You're... not going to find that person, are you?"

"It's obvious," Noah replied. "Why are you surprised?"

"They're still alive?" Desmond's voice tightened. "Why are you looking for them? Are you going to kill them?"

"I think it's her," Noah corrected calmly. "As for the rest, you don't need to know."

"Just come with me."

Kassandra sat quietly before the Atlantis observatory.

Beyond the specially treated glass, schools of fish drifted past.

Her mind was calm.

Two thousand years had passed in silence.

She had been waiting-for the one destined to take over her burden.

To be honest, after living this long, meaning had thinned. If not for guarding the balance of the world, she would've returned to Mother Earth long ago.

That time was close now.

She could feel it.

"My brother's bloodline was preserved," Kassandra murmured softly. "Although..."

Her thoughts drifted back two millennia.

That year, she met a girl named Nima.

That year, her brother and that girl had a child.

Their ending had saddened her deeply. But in the end, she resolved the final problem. The child survived, and her bloodline spread.

"It reminds me of Evie and Jacob," Kassandra smiled faintly. "So similar to Alexios and me."

Her smile faded.

"Unfortunately... they're all gone."

Time was both capital and curse.

Everyone she loved had died.

Only she remained, walking forward with her destiny.

Kassandra no longer dared to make friends. Every bond was another weight, another wound waiting to reopen.

She gently touched her staff.

Now, only this remained with her.

Then she frowned.

A terrifying power rippled outward.

An ominous sensation filled her heart.

For over two thousand years, she had seen countless wonders-relics of the Isu, echoes of the past. She rarely ventured outside. Atlantis was her refuge.

She knew little of the strange beings beyond.

And she didn't care.

She was a demigod. Those outsiders were no threat.

Peace suited her.

But this time was different.

Whoever was coming-no, whoever they were-was dangerous.

Her grip tightened.

Light spread in a circle around her.

Power she hadn't used in millennia began to stir.

She focused, ready to strike.

Then-

She felt it.

A bloodline.

Identical to her own.

From her brother's descendants.

"What...?" Kassandra froze.

The light circle opened fully.

A young man emerged, carrying another.

Both carried the same bloodline.

Faint-but unmistakable.

Kassandra's gaze sharpened.

Ancient power surged.

Then, from behind the fading light, an even younger voice sounded.

"So this is Atlantis?"
