Chapter 448 - Chapter 448: What If We Call It S.W.O.R.D.?

New book

Food Wars: Not about Food

Solving Bucky's problem was genuinely simple for Noah.

As a Kamar-Taj sorcerer, he wasn't just proficient in spatial magic. Soul magic was also well within his skill set. He had briefly considered asking Captain America for something in return, but after thinking it through, Noah realized Steve Rogers was… broke.

Not literally.

On the contrary, Rogers was extremely wealthy. He'd been frozen for seventy years, but his military status never lapsed. His image had been used endlessly for propaganda. The back pay alone would be astronomical, not to mention portrait rights.

But none of that mattered.

He had nothing Noah wanted.

Money wasn't an issue for Noah anymore. With Ark existing as both an organization and a company, his finances were loose to the point of being careless. While he couldn't compare to Tony Stark, or ancient magical families with centuries of accumulation, he wasn't greedy either.

In the magical world, he was already considered a tycoon.

So Rogers' money held no appeal.

As for anything else… there was nothing.

If this were fifteen years ago, Noah might've asked for a vial of blood.

Now?

"Forget it. I'll just be a good person."

After failing to come up with anything worth taking, Noah decided to help for free.

Bucky was still struggling on the ground.

Noah hooked a finger.

The next moment, Bucky was lifted into the air, floating directly in front of him.

No warning.

No explanation.

Noah raised his hand and slapped Bucky's chest.

Hard.

The action stunned everyone present.

Rogers froze. Fury stiffened. Wick's eyes widened.

Was he killing him?

"What are you—" Rogers blurted out.

"Quiet," Constantine cut in calmly. "Noah's helping you."

"But—"

"You're an ordinary person. You can't see what he's doing. So it's better if you shut up."

Rogers fell silent.

He truly couldn't see anything.

Among everyone present, only Constantine understood what had just happened. And even he was surprised. That seemingly casual slap had cleanly extracted two distinct consciousnesses from Bucky's body.

No hesitation.

No resistance.

Noah glanced once, made a choice, and banished one of them.

Then he placed the remaining soul back.

The entire process took less than ten seconds.

Clean. Direct. Finished.

Constantine didn't even consider the possibility that Noah had made a mistake. The two consciousnesses were fundamentally different. Even Constantine wouldn't confuse them.

Let alone Noah.

"Done." Noah clapped his hands. "Just a simple conscious entity. Nothing serious."

"I see…" Rogers exhaled slowly. "Thank you, Your Excellency."

He had no idea how many methods Noah possessed. Looking at Bucky, now unconscious on the ground, Rogers could only choose to trust him.

He had no other choice.

He hadn't known Noah long, but one thing was clear—this wasn't someone who lied. And Noah was decisive by nature.

So Rogers waited.

Noah didn't dwell on it. He had other things to handle.

He turned and looked at Wick, who had grown noticeably more reserved. After witnessing Noah's abilities, Wick clearly didn't know how to face someone like this.

That reaction made Noah chuckle.

John Wick—the man who would wipe out an entire family over a dog—was acting cautious in front of a sorcerer.

Thinking about it, Noah didn't blame him.

If Wick hadn't just watched someone casually pull souls out of a body, this probably wouldn't be happening.

"No need to be nervous, Mr. Wick," Noah said lightly. "Let's be straightforward. You help me with something, and I'll give you a brand-new identity."

"Your Excellency Sorcerer…" Wick took a deep breath. "Is this still about finding the person above the High Table?"

"Exactly," Noah nodded. "Find him. Tell me who he is. And you'll have a new life."

"A new life…" Wick murmured.

After a moment, he nodded. "I'll do it. But I have a question."

"Go ahead."

"Do sorcerers have resurrection magic?"

"…Yes," Noah replied slowly. "But all of it is extremely evil magic. I don't think you'd want your wife revived only to be hunted by exorcists and sorcerers. And I'd probably get dragged into it too."

"I see…" Wick looked lost.

Noah sighed internally.

Resurrection magic remained unsolved.

From Hogwarts to now—over twenty years—he hadn't found a single reliable, clean method. Even in the Star Wars parallel universe, nothing met his standards.

Theoretically, Noah could design one himself.

Summon the soul. Clone the body. Use Kamar-Taj magic to bind them.

Cloning was trivial. If he found Dr. Pym—or even Dr. Rikard—it wouldn't be difficult.

Binding a soul was even easier.

The real problem was summoning the soul.

That part was absurd.

To this day, Noah had no way to do it. Not the ancestral spirit magic of Kamar-Taj. Not the Nightsisters. One summoned randomly. The other reanimated corpses without consciousness.

Neither worked.

Even the Soul Stone had crossed his mind. Its ability to manipulate even dead souls was tempting. But the cost was unacceptable. It demanded the soul of a loved one.

Noah had no intention of paying that price.

And even if he did—where was the soul? Heaven? Hell? Someone else's hands?

Too many unknowns.

He dropped the thought.

There were other paths. Eastern islands. Hidden villages. Strange dimensions.

All of that could wait.

Turning his attention back, Noah looked at Fury.

"The Hydra agent is dealt with. What's your next move?"

"D.C.," Fury answered immediately. "I need to report. And the Helicarriers still need to be handled."

"This mission failed," Noah said, rubbing his chin. "They'll probably accelerate their plans. Let Steve handle it. He's here, and he's capable."

Fury glanced at Rogers, who was still beside Bucky.

After thinking it through, he nodded.

If Hydra got the news, they'd act fast. They needed someone who could respond immediately. Steve Rogers fit that role perfectly.

Fury still felt uneasy—but he had no better option.

"By the way," Noah said casually, "what are you planning to call your new organization?"

"Hm? Oh." Fury paused. "I haven't decided yet. Why?"

"I have a suggestion," Noah said. "What do you think?"

"Oh?" Fury looked interested. "Let's hear it."

"How about S.W.O.R.D.?" Noah said. "Sentient World Observation and Response Department. Specifically for interstellar matters."

Fury's eyes lit up.

"Great name," he said. "Hey—how did you come up with that?"
