Selene's compromise was expected, but Noah hadn't anticipated the Ministry of Magic to be so ruthless.
Although he'd made some moves in secret, he hadn't expected them to have prepared so much evidence.
Then again, thinking about it, it made sense. Aurors monitored vampires constantly but couldn't take direct action. All they could do was collect data and prepare for clean-up. Naturally, they'd record every offense the vampires committed.
And with that many records... you could only imagine how full the evidence archives were.
Sure, there might be decent vampires or Lycans—but most weren't exactly saints.
"Also, do female vampires just like being named Selene? I remember in that cave in Skyrim, there was a vampire with an Elder Scroll sealed away. Her name was Selene too."
Noah rubbed his chin thoughtfully. Honestly, if he had to compare, the Skyrim Selene was far more badass.
Not only was she a powerful mage, but she could fight toe-to-toe in melee—wielding a sword and dagger without fear.
This Selene, though? Sure, her close-combat skills were solid, but maybe she'd handled guns too long—she looked like she'd traded vampire mystique for military grit.
Noah didn't take her threats seriously. Just like the Lycans—no real pressure.
Their ancestors probably learned hard lessons from magicians, but it had been far too long since they actually fought one.
If it had been an elder vampire, there's no way they'd have brought Noah straight to their lair. Elders were cautious, unless they were desperate.
Just then, Constantine walked up, cigarette in hand. The guy had been lurking around the subway station since the shooting started.
He hadn't stepped in while Angelina was fighting. Instead, he waited until Noah cleaned up the whole mess—vampires and Lycans alike.
"I thought you weren't going to show up," Noah muttered.
"You had it handled. Why mess with perfection? You magicians don't need help from a simple exorcist."
"Heh. Yet we magicians are always the ones bailing you out, Johnny."
"Oh, really? If you're all so generous, feel free to pass me some cash next time you're not working."
Noah rolled his eyes and resisted the urge to hex him. Are you dreaming or just broke again?
Instead of arguing, Noah spun his wand casually. A portal formed in midair, glowing faintly.
The Ministry of Magic personnel nearby stared, stunned. Clearly, the destination was the same place they had arrived from.
They had risked their lives Apparating here… and Noah just waved his wand.
Noah didn't bother with their reactions. He turned to Angelina. "You go back. We'll handle the rest."
"I know." Angelina didn't hesitate. She nodded and stepped into the portal.
Meanwhile, Ministry agents had begun casting Obliviate on all the Muggles who had witnessed the chaos, working quickly and efficiently.
The magic world remained hidden—just as it always had, and likely always would.
"Well then, let's go." Noah glanced at Constantine.
"We?" Constantine raised an eyebrow as he lit another cigarette. "You mean I'm going with you?"
"Of course. You expect me to storm a vampire nest alone?"
"No, I just figured you magicians love stirring up trouble. Why drag me into it?"
"Because you're technically the boss of our little firm."
"I thought you were the boss."
"You keep thinking that."
Constantine sighed. "Fine. I'm coming. Just don't blame me when this all goes sideways."
As for Chase? That kid had been practically invisible lately. But Constantine didn't mind—he had his hands full already.
They strolled through the rainy streets of Budapest, Noah looking absurdly elegant beneath his umbrella. Constantine and Selene, on the other hand, were drenched. Selene's black hair clung to her face and scalp, plastered down by the storm.
Eventually, they reached the outskirts of the city.
Frankly, Noah would've preferred to just open a portal and skip the trek. But Selene hadn't suggested it—and she seemed to be stalling.
He didn't really care. Let her stall if she wanted. If she pushed his patience, there were far more aggressive spells he could use.
Thankfully, she led them without protest to the vampire stronghold.
After an hour, they arrived at a massive estate on the edge of the city.
Looking at the towering mansion, Noah raised an eyebrow. These vampires really were rich. If he took them down, he might walk away wealthy.
"I've brought you here," Selene said stiffly. "I hope you didn't lie to me… or else—"
"I see you the way you see humans," Noah replied calmly. "Let's just say I'm doing my job."
Smiling faintly, he turned his umbrella into a wand.
Lightning flashed across the sky as thunder boomed. Perfect weather for trouble.
The iron gates in front of the estate meant nothing to Noah. Even Constantine barely gave them a glance.
But Noah wasn't here to be subtle.
"Let's make some noise," he said. "No need to search room by room."
A golden light shimmered at the tip of his wand. Arcane energy pulsed outward, and moments later, a massive fireball burst forth, slamming into the gate.
It exploded in a flash of fire and smoke, metal twisted and hurled aside.
Alarms blared within the mansion. Noah smirked.
"Lucky I didn't cast during the thunder—might've missed my cue."
"You seriously lack common sense," Constantine grumbled, wiping rain from his face. "The thunder's not the problem—your magic's like a damn beacon."
Noah gave him a look, but said nothing. True, he could've used a spell to shield them from the rain, but he chose the umbrella just to annoy Constantine.
As the alarm grew louder, vampires began pouring out of the mansion.
Strangely enough, the vampires were all strikingly beautiful, while the Lycans tended to be rugged and muscular. Noah mused on Western aesthetics—vampires were elegant, but the Lycans had the raw appeal.
A young vampire stepped forward, pale and furious. "Selene? What the hell? You brought the exorcist here?"
He didn't even consider the possibility that Noah was a wizard.
The Ministry of Magic had a long-standing non-interference agreement here, and this vampire assumed Noah and Constantine were just high-level exorcists.
After all, wizards rarely involved themselves in foreign affairs unless it suited their interests.
And vampires had long memories. Over time, they had forgotten what it was like to be truly threatened by magic.
Exorcists, on the other hand, were a constant thorn—always harassing them for bounties or contracts.
"Since you betrayed us," the vampire leader snarled, "you'll die with your exorcist friends. Even if you were forced, I'll handle your father myself."
He signaled, and heavily armed vampires emerged, weapons drawn. They opened fire at once.
The leader himself turned away, walking back into the mansion. He hated the cold rain—and he had bigger things to consider.
This attack? It might cause tension with the Ministry of Magic.
And Klein—head of the vampire clan—would demand answers.
The leader knew Klein had long held feelings for Selene. This betrayal would be risky, but… what if he could use it to take Klein down?
"Oh, hell," he muttered as screams erupted behind him.
He turned back—just in time to see what had the others panicked.
And his pale face turned even whiter.
