Rei and Tenko stepped out of the Midgard and took in the peaceful village. The scene of people toiling in the fields, making handicrafts, and moving goods reminded Rei of his home in Orville. He smiled as some villagers offered food to Tenko, who happily accepted. Rei's eyes then fell upon a distant mountain. He took out the map, compared it to the mountain, and muttered, "I see, that's the Red Mountain. I should investigate the area before entering it." Tenko, perched on Rei's shoulder, barked in agreement. "Thank you for supporting me, Tenko," Rei said.
Rei then remembered the tutoring task. "I'll ask the girl about the mountain," he decided. He and Tenko walked to the address on the task and knocked on the door. A man opened it, his eyes narrowing when he saw Rei. He didn't sense any magic in Rei and noticed Tenko was a deadly beast, not a magical one. "Who are you?" the man asked suspiciously.
"My name is Rei, and this is Tenko," Rei replied, as Tenko barked. "I am here to teach magic to your daughter."
"Hmph, you don't even have a bit of magic. What can you teach?" the man scoffed. Rei showed his Chaos Scepter. The man looked confused, so Rei used his sorcery. "Apprentice Spell: Wind Blast!" A gust of wind shot from the scepter and into the sky. The man was surprised.
"It's true I don't possess magic," Rei explained, "but I created something that mimics magic. It's called sorcery."
The man thought for a moment. "Fine, come in. My name is Wayton. Can you tell me more about your sorcery?"
"I created sorcery by using spirit arts," Rei said as they walked into the living room. "People like me who use sorcery are called wizards." Rei sat on the couch, and Tenko jumped to the ground. Wayton offered Tenko some milk to drink. "So, anyone who possesses spirit arts can use sorcery?" Wayton asked.
"No, it's not like that," Rei corrected him. "Mages use magic to bend realities, martials use qi to destroy everything in their path, and as for wizards, they use knowledge to control the world."
"I don't get it," Wayton admitted.
"It's okay, I get that a lot," Rei said with a slight shrug.
An eight-year-old girl walked in. "Father, who is this?" she asked.
"She certainly seems energetic," Rei commented. Wayton laughed, and the girl's face flushed.
"Just who the hell are you to say that? I'll show you how to shut your mouth! Fire, burn my enemies..." the girl began to chant.
"Wait, no need to attack!" Wayton quickly said.
"Don't worry," Rei said. "I think it's a good chance to experiment with something I created." Rei concentrated on the girl's voice, using his energy to emit a sound wave. He started changing its frequency, which was difficult, but he was able to find the right one. The girl was surprised that her voice had suddenly become so low. Rei then used amplitude and completely suppressed her voice. He had to constantly adjust the wave to maintain the effect. The girl, hearing her voice fluctuate, was unable to summon her magic. Wayton was completely surprised. "It's no use. I suppressed your voice—not completely, but enough to make you unable to use your magic," Rei said.
Rei stopped the voice suppression. The girl let out a sigh of relief as her voice returned.
"What were you trying to do just now?" Wayton asked.
"I was trying to create a sound spell similar to what is used in magic," Rei replied. "However, it was way too difficult."
"What were you doing? You don't even have magic. You're a freak," the girl snapped.
"From today onwards, he is going to be your magic teacher," Wayton announced.
"No way! I won't let a freak become my teacher!" the girl protested.
"Are you sure?" Rei said, a slight smirk on his face. "I am the founder of sorcery and the greatest wizard in this world. The last person I trained in magic was able to use chantless magic and reached Magic Master in just a few days."
The girl gulped at Rei's claims, while Wayton looked skeptical. "Don't you think that's a bit exaggerated?"
"No, absolutely not. I did accomplish those tasks," Rei insisted, and Tenko barked in agreement. Wayton didn't believe him, but the eight-year-old girl did. "Fine, I take back what I said. I want to learn magic from you."
"Now that's the spirit," Rei said.
Wayton thought to himself, "Well, he is a good persuader at least. However, I hope he can teach her magic."
Rei said, "So, how about we start with introductions? My name is Rei, and he is Tenko." Tenko barked.
"My name is Ava. Nice to meet you," the girl said.
"Get ready, you are going to learn the true meaning of magic now. Come on to the yard," Rei instructed. Ava, Rei, and Tenko went to the yard. "Today, we are not going to practice the practical work first. Tell me, what attributes do you have?"
"I can use fire, shadow, and ice attributes," Ava replied.
"I see. Show me any magic you have learned," Rei said.
Ava closed her eyes. "Fire, burn my enemies and turn them to ashes! Show the world your destruction! Instill fear in my enemies and give me the power to destroy them! Fireball magic!" A ball of fire shot from her hand and struck a boulder.
"Way too weak," Rei critiqued. "Let me show you how to fire a fireball." Rei used his Chaos Scepter and made a huge ball of fire that completely destroyed the boulder. Ava looked on in shock. "You don't need to copy me. Try to feel your magic first," Rei instructed.
Ava reluctantly closed her eyes and started feeling her magic. "Now, try to circulate that magic all over your body," Rei said. Ava started circulating the magic. "Now, extend your hand, pour out magic, and think of fire, okay?" Wayton watched as Ava followed Rei's instructions. "Now, open your eyes." Ava opened her eyes and saw a ball of fire in front of her hand. "Chantless magic?" she whispered in surprise. Her concentration broke, and the fireball disappeared.
"You are doing good," Rei said. "Try doing this with your other elements during the night. It's getting late. I'm going back."
"Wait, will I be able to use chantless magic again?" Ava asked.
"Sure," Rei said. "If you train hard, you can use it easily." Ava looked happy, and Rei and Tenko left.
