Chapter 220: A Grave Mistake

"What is that?!"

"Careful! That looks like Fyendfire!"

"It's clearly not, you idiot. Stop panicking!"

James watched as these young Death Eaters argued with each other and completely wasted the surprise factor of their supposed ambush.

Not wanting to drag this out longer than necessary, he threw the flames in the air. They hovered above him, forming a sphere of black fire.

"To tell you the truth…I quite hate fighting," said James. "I enjoy the process of creation; however, killing others is nothing but destruction in the end." Voldemort had forced his hand on this one. Something that he will make him pay for...in time.

"What are you talking about? I told you to throw your wand away!" the leader shouted at him while his eyes kept moving to the black flames with evident concern.

"My wand?" James glanced at it. "Sure, here you go." He let it fall a few feet away from him.

This next part would require the use of both his hands.

The Death Eater leader looked surprised that James simply obeyed him, but it also made him feel somewhat relieved.

"Markus, look at the fire! It's doing something," one of the other masked men suddenly said while pointing at the black flames.

"Don't use my real name!" the leader scolded him. He had also noticed that the fire was getting bigger and floating higher in the air. His eyes then went to the giant cauldron and wondered what Potter was trying to do.

Between the fire and the cauldron, it appeared as if he was getting ready to brew a potion, which didn't make any sense to them. This was not how a wizard was supposed to fight.

James walked to the three boys who had been paralyzed by his potion and grabbed one of them by the cuff of his shirt before he began dragging him towards the cauldron.

"Hey! Stop that!" The leader pointed his wand at James and finally decided to fire a spell.

It was nothing too harmful, just a stunning charm, as they were trying to capture him alive.

The red spark produced by his charm appeared to hit James on his shoulder as he walked.

"Got him. Now l—" The leader froze for a moment because James continued walking, completely unaffected after being hit by his spell.

"Did… did I not hit him?" The Death Eater leader was starting to question his eyesight. He could have sworn that the stunning charm impacted James on his left shoulder. But it would be impossible to just brush off a stunner like that, so he must have missed.

They then watched in shock as James threw the paralyzed boy he was holding, using only one hand, up into the air like a rag doll, sending him right inside the cauldron.

They all heard their companion land with a loud 'thud'.

James then turned around and walked back to where the other two were standing, still frozen by the potion's effect.

"Stun him already!" the leader shouted. This time, he was not going to miss, so he aimed properly while the other four did the same.

At the loud shouts of 'Stupefy', five red sparks flew directly at James and they all witnessed as four of them hit their target on several parts of his body.

"Ha! Now we really got y—" The leader had to stop himself mid-sentence.

James was still walking. He grabbed the second boy, and this time, he didn't even move closer to the cauldron and just tossed him from there.

"Is he immune to magic?"

"What is going on?!"

"Why aren't our spells affecting him one bit?"

The young Death Eaters that James had grabbed could not move a single muscle, but were aware of what was happening. The horror in their eyes showed what they were feeling as they flew through the air, landing inside the cauldron. With a quick motion, James threw the third boy in the same manner before making a gesture with his hand. Only then did the black flames seem to react to his will.

The ball of fire separated into two parts: one moved beneath the cauldron while the other remained in place.

"What is this?…what is he doing?." The leader's eyes moved between the cauldron and James.

"It would be a waste to merely kill you. So I am going to refine your bodies into something I can be of use," James' words were calm and cold.

"It's nothing personal. You are the ones who came to me."

The leader was now starting to consider that they may have committed a grave mistake in coming after James Potter after all.

They didn't understand why the Dark Lord had placed a massive reward on whoever could capture or kill this person, considering that it was someone much younger than them. 'How hard could that be?' They wondered when they first heard the news.

They had all grown up in Wales, so they didn't know anything about Potter or his family other than that it was an old pureblood house, so they had assumed that this boy was just very hard to find.

When one of them recognized James walking through the alley, they all got very excited at the prospect of rising in the ranks of the organization and earning the trust of their new Lord.

None of them had stopped to think that perhaps the high reward had another meaning…

"I… I've had enough of this!" The masked man who was closer to the alleyway that led to the exit decided that this was no longer worth risking their lives for and turned to run away.

James disappeared from his position and reappeared in front of the masked person. His palm was open and moved extremely swiftly to hit the target on his chest, sending him tumbling backwards. "I need at least six subjects for this experiment, so I can't let you leave."

The remaining Death Eaters glared at their leader for help.

This one responded by lifting his wand in the air and attempting to escape by using apparition.

"...huh?" He was sure he had activated the spell, but had not moved from the spot.

Just then, he heard an eerie female voice coming from above.

"Master, I have sealed the area as you requested."

They all looked in the direction of the sound and found a beautiful, tiny creature with wings that resembled a fairy.

"Thank you, Nyx." James walked towards them. "Make sure no one gets too close. I'll be done in ten minutes."
