The cafeteria that had claw marks and food all over the floor and walls, was now clean and spotless.
"Sheesh!!! Okay, so we got triple-stack burgers dipped in caramel
choco-glazed donuts wrapped in bacon, fries dunked in cheese and ice cream, Krypto trust me, it works!
hot wings dripping in like seven kinds of sauces, honey garlic, buffalo, teriyaki, sriracha, chipotle, and that mystery green stuff, pizza layered with more pizza, it's so... crash!!!"
Bart stopped celebrating as he saw Krypto's expression, he felt a gaze filled with nothing but disappointment.
'I don't like this, is it trying to say something?'
Krypto let out a low, disappointed huff. If there was a word for a dog's version of sighing in disapproval, this was it.
Then, slowly, it lifted its paw, dipped its claws into one of the sauces, and began to write across the table.
"The calibrator can create any food based on its molecular structure , even delicacies from Krypton… and you chose this trash?
You lack imagination.
For someone who can run and think at the speed of light, you are a disappointment."
Bart immediately froze in fear as he read the words, the dog was smart enough to comprehend and display complex cognitive abilities.
It couldn't speak but it understood everything he said, it understood everything he meant.
"T... this, did you hear everything I said about Donna?"
Krypto's lips curled into a sharp, knowing grin, revealing a flash of white teeth ,a look far too calculated to be animal instinct.
Then, with deliberate precision, he leaned forward, licking the sauce clean off the table before beginning to write again.
"At ease young blood, I used to hump on those thighs when she called me a good boy...so I understand where you come from
If I was a human and her mate, I would have the mating ritual daily, your desire to mate with her will be our little secret...if you do something for me?"
While Bart and Krypto were bonding, Jonathan and Clark were inside the medbay absorbing sunlight from small solar lamps.
"Dad, this isn't enough, I can barely reach 5% and they're already running out.
Doesn't Bruce have contingencies for these situations?"
Jonathan tried to start a conversation with his father, but Clark didn't respond.
He was there physically, yet his mind seemed far away, lost somewhere deep in thought.
"Okay!, let's address the elephant in the room, Dad, I think you're failing... have failed Jayden as a father.
He already has it rough on the internet and all..."
"Wait?" Clark cut him off, his tone softer than usual but laced with a strange tension.
"What do you mean rough?"
Jonathan couldn't help but sigh as he saw his father's expression.
"You're called an illegal immigrant, Supershit, off world scum, invader,
Cyborg is called a clanker and the N-word
Jayden is called what you're called and more... he's loved and hated by the masses"
Clark listened to Jonathan and took a moment of silence, he didn't know what to say.
"Ahh Dad, quick question... Jayden is immune to both Kryptonite and magic.
He's also connected to the speed force and he's Diana's grandson meaning magic runs through his vein...do you see the contradiction here"
"How do you know all this?" Clark questioned Jonathan as he raised his eyebrows in confusion, Jonathan knew more than what he was supposed to know.
"I overheard you and the league discussing it... wait he's the descendant of Zeus and an Amazon like Cassie, is he also a Demigod?"
Clark couldn't help but smile as he noticed the curiosity in Jonathan's eyes, but seeing how Jonathan was confused as an observer he couldn't help but wonder how Jayden felt.
"Yes, Jayden is indeed immune to magic and Kryptonite, but unlike most Amazons, magic doesn't naturally flow through his veins because he is immune to it.
To compensate for this, there needs to be a balance.
He possesses what is called a divine spark/a God seed."
"Huh?"
Clark saw the puzzlement in Jonathan's eyes but he quickly added:
"To be precise, a divine spark is something that all higher beings possess.
It is what allows some to ascend, to become Gods in the first place.
Jayden has enough qualifications to enter the Godsphere and reside there as a God.
However, in his current state, he is what you could call a dormant God.
He is not a demigod, he hasn't awakened as a God yet.
Most gods rely on magic, but he… well, he isn't a God of belief.
He is something akin to a true, independent God of thought.
It's complicated."
Jonathan began to connect the dots as he listened to his father, he could now understand why the New Gods of New Genesis and the God's of Olympus liked asking about Jayden so much.
"Then why are you avoiding him, from what I heard he isolates himself, he feels utterly abandoned and this has created a core belief that he can only rely on himself.
He's rejecting anything that connects you to him, everything that you stand for... do you see a pattern forming here
This kind of behaviour is unlike you so what's happening?"
Clark sighed in defeat because he knew very well what Jonathan meant, sooner or later Jayden might embrace a darker path due to the lack of guidance.
"I...tried Jonathan but I cannot connect with him, I love him to death but I can't form any paternal connection with him.
It always... felt wrong, unnatural... I am afraid of him and I don't know why.
I can't embrace him as a dad so I could only watch out for him from afar as a father"
Jonathan felt a ping in his heart as he saw the sadness in his father's eyes, it was the look of helplessness.
His mother and Jayden were a little closer so he couldn't understand why this was happening.
'This doesn't make sense, father connects with people easily... it's as if there's a force behind this phenomenon?'
"Dad, You're treating Jayden like a problem to be solved not a son to be loved
I think it's time for you to have a talk"
