The sanctuary quaked beneath us, the air thick with something ancient and unrelenting. The Keeper's words echoed in my mind—By making a choice she never could. But what choice? What was Mira meant to do?
I barely had time to think before the runes along the walls flared violently, their golden glow twisting into something darker. Shadows bled into the air, curling like smoke, and then—
A presence.
Cold. Unyielding. Watching.
Mira staggered beside me, her grip tightening around the dagger. Her face was pale, her chest rising and falling in uneven breaths. I could still see the terror in her eyes from whatever she had witnessed. Whatever he had shown her.
I reached for her wrist, steadying her. "Mira, stay with me."
She blinked, her focus snapping back to me. "He's coming."
