When the urgent message from the palace arrived, it was four days after Fu Ling's visit to Wen Zhan.
Su Gonggong stood in front of the command tent, clad in armour. When the courier knelt and presented the scroll, his thin lips curved faintly.
"From His Majesty," the man said, head lowered.
Wei Tingche was beside him, his expression unreadable as the seal was broken. Su Gonggong scanned the edict quickly, his eyes flicking across the inked characters.
"By decree of the Emperor: Generals Wei Tingche and Su Gonggong are hereby recalled to the capital to report before the throne. The border shall temporarily be under the command of Vice General Han Yi until their return."
Just as Fu Ling had expected, Su Gonggong didn't suspect this was a ploy against himself. His first thought was that this was his long awaited chance.
He was planning to take things slowly but if he changed his plans slightly, Yu would fall even faster than expected.
