Chapter 144 - Good family?

The house felt bigger that day.

It wasn't, of course. Same hallways, same furniture, same alarms and sensors hidden in every corner. But the presence of a child changes the air. Makes things… strangely alive.

Naejin came in carrying a worn-out teddy bear, clutched around Alissa's neck like the world would end if she let go. He wasn't crying, but his eyes took everything in. With every step, he seemed to measure whether this place was a threat or a refuge.

Naejin seemed to have shut down with the change of environment, I couldn't blame him. He was a smart, cautious kid.

Salin tried to break the silence with something inviting.

— We have juice. Strawberry juice. — he said, opening the fridge like he was revealing a secret weapon.

Naejin glanced away for half a second, curious. But didn't stray from his aunt.

— Where will we sleep? — Alissa asked, straight to the point. Her backpack still hanging from one shoulder.
