Chapter 100 - Chapter 100 - Short Run

Ambrose and many of the others that had come to investigate the argument ensuing knelt at the sight of her, eliciting a frustrated swish of her tail that snapped the hair on its end as if to accentuate her frustration with the action, "I do not require such treatment and generally have a great distaste for it," she spoke using her magic.

They reluctantly stood, many changing to their unicorn forms as they did. Ambrose graciously accepted her offer to join them though he looked apprehensive about it. He had no idea what they would do if she couldn't keep up, not wanting to agree to bring her along only to have to abandon her somewhere. They also were reluctant to split from each other, so it would be hard to find someone to send with her to escort her home.

He could see a few eager faces watching her with more than a little curiosity and snorted his own frustration at that. Whether or not she was amenable to advances aside, he highly doubted she'd be interested in any of the cocky young men watching her. Another lash of her tail seemed to agree with him as he watched her marvelous color-shifting eyes move to look at them.

As if sensing his apprehension, she spoke again, "I can take myself back to my grove using magic quite easily, even easier if you can simply drop me off at a starseeing pond or Star Ash."

They went on their way shortly after, Ambrose finding himself slightly surprised with how easily the young one kept pace with all of them. She seemed quite fit despite the lush grove filled with plant life indicating that she likely didn't leave home often.

Her color-shifting eyes watched curiously as they paused by one of the dungeons and cast a few spells to check its status. One of the young men in the herd took that chance to approach, clearly eager to try his luck at seducing her.

He got off to a less than stellar start, considering his first words were, "What? The great and mighty daughter of Sidus doesn't know how to use simple magic to check on a dungeon?"

Ash glanced at him, her eyes shifting to a slight red as if to speak to her annoyance, though they continued moving through the colors without regard to her feelings, "In my own world, we do not tolerate dungeons because they provide us with nothing. Make certain to thank Lord Lucrum that you have reason to use such magic as well instead of having to clear them and destroy their cores."

Clearly sulking, he responded a bit harshly, "Shouldn't you be strong enough to do these things, being the daughter of our great Lord of the Stars and all that."

Ash snorted, a hoof idly stomping her displeasure as he was distracting her from examining the magic they were using, "This body is yet new to me. I am not as strong here as I am in my own world."

"Have you any strength at all?" He tossed his head, his tail lashing, "Or are you nothing but a pretty princess looking for someone to care for her? Given how your home looks, I've my doubts you've left it."

Ash's power wove five spells simultaneously, each a different set of fused elemental arrows. Each spell summoned six arrows, all of them real rather than the illusionary ones she'd tried to use to intimidate Bris. Three of the spells were a fusion of light and dark magic that created something named Night Sky Arrows and she had also woven one each of her Flamewind Arrows and her Earthen Rain Arrows. Each of the spells was something that their creation windows had told her was entirely new to Fantastoria and welcomed by the gods their elements represented.

Faced with thirty elemental arrows and a caster that didn't look even slightly worn from creating them, the young man backed down immediately. Ash snorted slightly and released the spells, unweaving them just as expertly as she had created them. Her gaze moved away from the would-be suitor that clearly thought the only way he'd get a chance at her would be to destroy her self-esteem back to Ambrose.

He offered to teach her the magic they were using and she gratefully accepted, joining them in casting it at the next dungeon. It was a simple spell, enough so that she was a little frustrated she hadn't already figured out how to cast it on her own. She understood, though, that magic worked slightly differently in Fantastoria than she was used to.

Where she was used to using intent to create effect, Fantastoria used words to define that intent. The end result was the same spell, but constructed entirely differently. She enjoyed her time with the Starlight Unicorn herd immensely though she changed back to her elven form outside of the city where no one would see.

Walking into the city alongside them, she wasn't particularly startled when the guard asked after her adventurer's token. She handed it over without a fight and watched as they checked it over for authenticity and nodded slightly, handing it back over so she could enter the city.

She left them at the tree in the center of the city, watching as they lay down on the ground around the tree. It practically glowed with contentment, seeming thrilled at having its children back under its boughs.

She didn't have to walk far to make it to the teleportation array, heading back home a little more weary than when she'd left it but happy to have made the run. The Starlight Unicorns would be in town the entire next day, though Ambrose had told her that they'd take turns slipping away from the celebration so that they could enjoy it in their elven forms.

Sidus awaited her, though he didn't stay long, merely checking in that her magic was in good shape before leaving to his duties. When she finally settled into bed, it was with a bit of satisfaction on how well the day had gone overall.
