Jin didn't go to bed.
He walked down the dark hallway with the red book under his arm until he reached the empty classroom at the end of it. Nobody used that room anymore. The desks had been taken out weeks ago for the new homes in the city, and now it was just four walls, a dusty chalkboard, and a window looking out at the forest.
He stood in front of the bare back wall and held out his hand.
A door appeared under his palm. It was tall and dark, made of heavy wood with iron bands across it, and it looked like it belonged in an old palace rather than a school. No one else could see it. No one else could open it.
The Hall of Mandates had been his reward for killing the Sin Eater. It was a war room that only Jin could enter, and its door could open on any wall, anywhere. So far he had used it twice. Once to see what it was, and once to pull a spare blade out in the middle of a spar with Haneul, which had made Haneul complain for an entire day.
