The Watchtower's central hall was louder than usual.
chaotic and alive with overlapping voices, footsteps, and barely restrained irritation.
Barry Allen was the first to voice it, arms crossed, foot tapping at impossible speed.
"So, just to confirm," he said, glancing around the packed room, "the planet is not on fire, no cities are exploding, and there's no giant alien skull in the sky."
He looked at the ceiling, then back at everyone.
"Because if this is another 'preventative discussion,' I left pizza in the oven."
Billy Batson, currently Shazam, floated upside down nearby, hands folded behind his head.
"Yeah, seriously," he added. "This better not be a team bonding thing."
Green Arrow snorted from where he leaned against a railing, arms crossed.
"If this is about teamwork, I'm leaving too. I didn't bring my feelings."
Black Canary shot him a look. "Do you ever?"
Across the room, Martian Manhunter stood quietly, hands folded, eyes glowing faintly as he scanned the gathered minds. "There is… something of course," J'onn said. "Whoever called us did so with a good reason."
Hal Jordan leaned back in a chair that hadn't existed a second earlier, boots up on the table.
"Okay, but?" he asked. "Because Bats usually gives us at least a warning."
John Stewart stood beside him, arms folded, expression stern.
"Yeah.." He looked around once more. "That alone is unusual."
Near the far side of the room, the Titans had gathered together almost instinctively.
Beast Boy was blinking, almost confused why he is here as well.
"Okay, real talk," he said, lowering his voice. "Did we get upgraded to 'end-of-the-world guest list' or something?"
Starfire tilted her head, hair glowing softly.
"We never been called like this…" she said gently. "I fear beast boy might not be far from the truth.."
Blue Beetle swallowed. "That is not comforting. At all."
Cyborg crossed his arms, optics narrowing as he scanned the Watchtower's systems.
"I didn't detect a security breach, so this isn't some sort of trap or fake call to gather all of us here." He frowned. "Batman or Supes called for this meeting but where are they..."
Robin stood apart from the others, arms folded, eyes sharp beneath his mask. He looked around once, counting faces.
Then he spoke.
"Batman didn't call this meeting."
That drew attention.
"And since Superman's not here either," Robin continued. "This means…" His gaze shifted toward the entrance.
"I think I know who did this."
A ripple of murmurs passed through the room.
At the edge of the gathering, two figures stood out.
Zatanna adjusted her jacket, eyes glowing faintly as she whispered a quick diagnostic spell under her breath.
"John, I don't know about you.." she said quietly. "But I still feel something… off."
Constantine exhaled smoke, hands in his coat pockets, eyes dark.
"Yeah," he muttered. "And it ain't the friendly sort."
He took a drag, then glanced around the room.
"When I get dragged up here with the boy scouts, the bug kids, and the glowing gods," he said, "it usually means someone's about to kick over the cosmic anthill."
Black Canary frowned. "You saying you know what this is about?"
Constantine smirked without humor.
"No. Which is what's got me worried."
The doors at the far end of the hall remained closed.
Superman was missing.
Batman was missing.
Then the Watchtower lights flickered.
And completely smothered.
Shadows poured across the floor like liquid night, crawling up walls, swallowing consoles, bending light itself until the vast chamber felt suddenly small, with pressure that pressed against everyone present.
Everyone reacted on instinct.
Barry vanished in a red blur and reappeared behind cover, electricity snapping along his arms.
"Okay.. Yep.. this is new," he muttered, heart racing despite himself.
Shazam straightened midair, lightning crackling around his fists.
"That's… not magic.."
Green Arrow reached for an arrow already glowing with an emergency charge.
"Is this some sort of a trap?!" he said through clenched teeth, "stay alert.."
Black Canary took a breath, centering herself, one hand braced on the table.
"Everyone steady. Don't fire unless.."
Martian Manhunter stiffened.
His eyes were calm despite everything.
"This presence…" J'onn said slowly.
Hal Jordan's ring flared bright green, construct forming automatically around him.
"…Yeah," he muttered. "I know this feeling."
John Stewart's jaw tightened as his ring projected defensive barriers around some of his friends.
"This isn't hostile," he said, though his voice was tense.
"You don't need those barriers.. Just watch." Hal said.
Wonder Woman stepped forward, shield raised, boots grinding against the floor as the pressure bore down. Her eyes narrowed,
"It has to be Arthur.."
Robin planted his staff into the floor, cape fluttering violently in the unnatural wind.
"…Figures," he said quietly.
Even Constantine, leaning casually against a console, had to brace himself, though the grin on his face was unmistakable.
"Bloody bastard…" he muttered, smoke curling from his lips. "Still a show-off."
The shadows deepened, then parted.
They didn't disperse.
From the heart of the darkness, a figure stepped forward.
Arthur.
His boots touched the floor without a sound. Violet light burned calmly in his eyes, The shadows coiled behind him like a dark cloak.
Behind him, the darkness peeled back further.
Superman emerged first, cape settling, expression serious and composed.
Batman followed silently.
And then Kara stepped out, arms folded, eyes bright with confidence.
For a moment
No one spoke.
Beast Boy's jaw dropped.
"…Okay," he whispered. "That explains the vibe."
Blue Beetle swallowed hard.
"Him?"
"I mean," Cyborg muttered. "Who else could it be."
Starfire stared openly, awed.
"His presence is… truly remarkable."
Robin's eyes flicked behind Arthur, then back to him.
"…Raven isn't with them," he said quietly.
Superman cleared his throat and stepped forward.
"Sorry for the delay," he said apologetically. "We had to go get Batman first."
Batman said nothing. That, somehow, said everything.
Green Lanterns exchanged glances.
Finally, Hal spoke.
"So… Supes," he said carefully, "you mind telling us why you summoned everyone?"
Superman scratched the back of his neck, clearly uncomfortable.
"…I didn't."
A ripple went through the room.
Arthur stepped forward.
Just one step
"I did."
The reaction was immediate.
Green Arrow scoffed, lowering his bow slightly but not relaxing.
"No offense," he said flatly, "but are we really taking orders from you now?"
Kara turned sharply.
"You.."
"Enough."
Batman's voice cut through the room.
Every head turned.
He stepped forward, standing slightly to Arthur's side, not in front, not behind. Equal footing.
"You'd be wise to listen," Batman said.
Then his gaze swept across the gathered heroes.
"All of you."
For a moment after Batman's words, the room stayed frozen.
Then Beast Boy broke it.
"…Okay," he said, glancing from Batman to Arthur, then back again. He shifted into a very nervous-looking green monkey for half a second before popping back to human. "When Batman says 'listen,' that's usually the part where ignoring it gets you punched, traumatized, or both. So..yeah. I'm listening."
A few Titans snorted quietly.
Constantine exhaled smoke and tilted his head, eyes glinting with interest.
"Well then," he drawled, voice thick with amusement, "this just got bloody interesting."
Zatanna shot him a sideways look, arms folding.
"I thought you didn't want to be here, John."
Constantine smirked without looking at her.
"I didn't," he said easily. "But since the Lord of Shadows himself decided to grace us with his presence, it changes the odds."
He finally turned, gaze locking openly onto Arthur, curious, cautious in a way only Constantine could be.
"There are some things," John continued, tone lighter but eyes sharp, "you don't ignore when they walk into the room. And I've got a favor to ask him. One I know he won't refuse."
"John…" Zatanna said softly, disappointment creeping into her voice.
Arthur said nothing yet.
He simply looked at them all.
"Thank you," Arthur said at last.
His voice was calm. Steady. And somehow, it carried to every corner of the Watchtower without him raising it.
"Thank you for coming, whether you were summoned willingly, reluctantly, or dragged here by curiosity."
A few eyes narrowed. Others sharpened with interest.
His violet eyes swept across the room, heroes, legends, soldiers, mages, gods-in-mortal-forms.
"I called you because the era of isolated battles is ending."
"There are forces moving beyond your borders. Entities that do not care for alliances, treaties, or symbols of hope. Things that do not fear the Justice League… because they do not even understand the concept of Justice."
Wonder Woman straightened slightly.
"These dangers," Arthur went on, "are not singular threats you can punch, imprison, or reason with. They are systems. Invasions. Convergences. Powers that erode worlds, until resistance becomes irrelevant."
He paused.
"And they are watching this planet."
A low murmur rippled through the room.
"I will be direct," Arthur said, his tone sharpening. "When they arrive, no single force will be enough. Not the League. Not the Lantern Corps. Not magic alone."
That admission landed harder than any boast.
"They will require unity," he said. "Preparation. And decisions made before blood is spilled."
He looked to Superman. To Batman. To the Titans. To everyone.
"To survive what is coming," Arthur finished, "this world will have to adapt to certain changes."
