Chapter 129 - 119

The first day of shooting finally arrived.

Akshatha reached the location early in the morning.

The set was already alive.

Crew members moved between departments, checking cameras, lights, sound equipment, costumes and props. The assistant directors were going through the day's schedule, while the camera team completed its final setup.

Everything was structured.

Everything had a time.

Akshatha noticed that nobody seemed to treat the schedule casually.

She appreciated that.

Western productions, she had observed, placed enormous importance on time. Every minute had a purpose.

Money could buy many things.

But it could never buy back time.

She kept that thought in mind as she prepared for her first scene.

Today, she would be introduced properly as the adult version of her character.

The character was no longer the carefree girl who had once spent her days with her childhood friends.

Life had taken her somewhere she had never imagined.

She had become trapped in the world of a powerful mafia family.

And the boy who had once been her childhood sweetheart had disappeared from her life.

Or at least, that was what she had believed.

Until now.

SCENE 47 — INT. LUXURY HOTEL — NIGHT

The first setup was inside a lavish hotel ballroom.

Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling. Men in expensive suits stood in small groups, speaking quietly. Security personnel were positioned around the room.

At the center of it all stood the mafia boss.

And beside him was Akshatha's character.

She wore an elegant evening gown, her appearance perfectly composed.

To anyone watching, she looked like the confident wife of a powerful man.

But beneath that appearance was a woman who had never chosen this life.

The director stood beside the monitor.

"Okay, everyone. Picture is up."

The room became quiet.

The assistant director called out:

"Rolling!"

The camera operator checked the frame.

"Camera rolling."

"Sound?"

"Speed."

The first assistant director raised a hand.

"Scene 47, Shot 1, Take 1."

The clapperboard snapped shut.

"Action!"

Akshatha walked beside the mafia boss.

Her posture was straight.

Her expression was calm.

She smiled politely whenever someone greeted her.

The mafia boss leaned slightly toward her.

"Stay close."

She gave a small nod.

"Yes."

Her voice was soft.

Controlled.

The two continued walking through the room.

Then—

Akshatha's eyes suddenly stopped.

Across the ballroom stood a man.

He was speaking to someone near the bar.

She knew him.

Even after all those years, she knew him.

Her childhood sweetheart.

The boy she had once believed she would spend her entire life with.

Her expression changed for barely a second.

Shock.

Recognition.

Pain.

Then she immediately controlled herself.

The director watched from behind the monitor.

"Don't cut."

The camera continued recording.

The man turned.

His eyes met hers.

He froze.

He looked at her face again, as though trying to convince himself that he wasn't imagining things.

"latikaha?"

She heard him.

Her fingers tightened slightly around the small clutch in her hand.

But she didn't respond.

The mafia boss noticed the change in her expression.

"Do you know him?"

she looked at her husband.

For a moment, she couldn't speak.

Then she forced a small smile.

"No."

The childhood sweetheart heard her answer.

His face fell.

He looked at the man standing beside her.

Then at the expensive ring on her finger.

His eyes finally settled on the two of them standing together.

He misunderstood everything.

He believed she had chosen this life.

He believed she had married the mafia boss willingly.

she could see that belief forming in his eyes.

She wanted to tell him the truth.

She wanted to walk toward him.

She wanted to say that she had never wanted this.

That she had been forced into circumstances where survival mattered more than happiness.

That sometimes a person had to give up the life they wanted simply to remain alive.

But she couldn't say any of it.

There were too many people watching.

Too many dangerous people around her.

So she lowered her eyes.

The mafia boss placed a hand lightly against her back.

"Come."

She nodded.

"Yes."

She turned away from the man she had once loved.

The camera slowly followed her.

Her face remained calm.

But her eyes told a completely different story.

"Cut!"

The entire set became silent for a moment.

The director looked at the monitor.

Akshatha remained in character until she heard the call.

Then she relaxed.

The director smiled.

"Good. Very good."

He looked toward the camera team.

"Let's do another one. Same performance, but this time, hold the eye contact with him for two seconds longer."

Akshatha nodded.

"Okay."

SCENE 47 — SHOT 2

Everyone returned to their positions.

The ballroom was reset.

The extras moved back to their marks.

The mafia boss returned to his position.

The childhood sweetheart stood near the bar.

The camera was repositioned slightly.

The director looked at Akshatha.

"This time, don't show the pain immediately. Let the audience discover it."

Akshatha understood.

She nodded.

"Got it."

The assistant director called:

"Picture!"

"Rolling!"

"Sound speed!"

"Scene 47, Shot 2, Take 2."

The clapperboard snapped.

"Action!"

Akshatha entered the ballroom again.

She walked beside the mafia boss.

Everything appeared normal.

Then she saw him.

Her eyes met his.

This time, she didn't look away immediately.

One second.

Two seconds.

The smallest tremor appeared in her eyes.

He recognized her completely.

"latikha?"

She swallowed.

For the briefest moment, the old girl returned.

Then the walls came back up.

She smiled faintly.

A painful, almost apologetic smile.

"No," she whispered.

The mafia boss looked at her.

"Let's go."

She turned away.

As she walked with him, she secretly looked back one last time.

Her childhood sweetheart was still standing there.

Watching her leave.

The camera stayed on his face.

He looked devastated.

Then—

"Cut!"

The director leaned back in his chair.

"That's the one."

Akshatha exhaled slowly.

The assistant director came over.

"Nice work."

She smiled politely.

"Thank you."

But even after the scene was over, Akshatha remained thoughtful.

She understood why the scene mattered.

The character wasn't simply a woman married to a mafia boss.

She was a woman who had lost the right to choose her own happiness.
