Lucian quickened his pace as the sky rumbled with thunder. It was the middle of the night, and yet sleep was still evading him. There was something on his mind. Something he could not get rid of, no matter how hard he tried.
Your friends are going to die. Not even you can heal them all.
His mind repeated the words over and over. His fragment pushed back against those words, as if trying to warn him that they were false.
But there was at least some truth to it.
After all, he'd decided to stay back in the Outer Ring to help his friends. Since they'd left, he already helped an older man who was dealing with some sort of infection in his lungs.
He'd been coughing up blood and yellow phlegm, and he'd already been close to breathing his final breaths.
When Lucian had stepped in, he'd saved the man before he went on to the other side.
If Lucian hadn't stayed, the man would have died.
