John smacked his forehead in frustration, realizing that he had been foolish. The ultimate cheat in the Dragon Ball universe was the Dragon Balls themselves! With them, he wouldn't need any other cheat abilities.
Other characters might have conditions for using their cheat abilities, but the Dragon Balls were different. As long as he gathered all seven Dragon Balls and made a wish, almost any wish could be granted without any conditions.
The second biggest cheat in the Dragon Ball universe was being a Saiyan. If Son Goku was the author's favorite character, then the Saiyans were like his favorite character's cousins. They were the real deal, the cream of the crop.
To survive in this world, John knew that he had to transform his body into that of a Saiyan. Only then would he have the power to stand against the universe's strongest warriors.
Without further ado, John decided that his first task was to find the Dragon Balls. And to find the Dragon Balls, he needed a Dragon Radar.
Only Bulma had the ability to create a Dragon Radar, so John's top priority was to get to know Bulma and convince her to join him on his quest for the Dragon Balls.
Bulma was famous in West City, as her father, Dr. Briefs, was the chairman of the Capsule Corporation, the richest man in the world.
As the daughter of the chairman, it was easy for John to gather information about Bulma.
Bulma was currently 16 years old and attending West City High School. John vaguely remembered that Bulma was also 16 years old when she first appeared in the series, but that was during summer vacation when she went on her quest to gather the Dragon Balls.
It had already been three months since the start of the school year, and there was still over a month left until summer vacation. John knew that he had to tell Bulma about the Dragon Balls before she discovered them on her own.
That evening, after school ended at West City High, John made his way to the route Bulma would take on her way home.
Soon, Bulma rode her hoverbike towards John from a distance. John took aim and fired a coin, hitting the hoverbike's magnetic suspension device.
The bike suddenly lost power and came to a screeching halt, throwing Bulma off the vehicle.
"Ah!" Bulma couldn't believe her bad luck as she fell off the bike.
As she was about to faceplant on the ground, she instinctively closed her eyes in fear.
Suddenly, Bulma felt herself being enveloped in a warm embrace, and she didn't feel any pain.
A deep, soothing male voice asked, "Are you okay?" The tone was filled with concern.
Bulma opened her eyes and saw a face that left her slightly disappointed.
She hadn't expected the person with such a pleasant voice to have such an ordinary appearance.
John, who had crossed over into this body, wasn't actually ugly. He was just a little chubby, which made him look rather average.
"I'm fine, thank you. You saved me," Bulma said politely, despite her disappointment with John's appearance.
After saying this, Bulma walked over to her hoverbike to inspect the damage. She was curious about why it had suddenly lost power.
John didn't mind her reaction; he knew that it would be difficult to quickly gain Bulma's favor with his current appearance. The fact that she didn't dislike him and even thanked him was already a good start.
John walked over to Bulma and asked, "Is your bike okay? Can you still ride it?"
Bulma had already discovered a coin wedged in the gap of the bike's footrest, which had disrupted the magnetic field generator.
"It's broken," Bulma said. "The magnetic field generator has been damaged by this coin. I'll need to take it home and repair it." She pressed a button on the bike.
With a loud "Bang!", the damaged hoverbike transformed into a small capsule and fell into Bulma's hand, which she then placed in her backpack.
John took the initiative and asked, "Do you have any other means of transportation?"
Bulma shook her head. "I didn't expect the bike to break down, so I didn't bring any other vehicles. It looks like I'll have to walk home. Fortunately, it's not too far from here."
"In that case, let me give you a ride. There's been a gang of robbers causing trouble in West City lately," John offered.
The news about the robbers was true; they had recently robbed a bank in West City, so John wasn't worried that Bulma would suspect him of having ulterior motives.
