Chapter 143 - "Chapter 143: Collecting Ingredients (Part 1)"

A short extra—"If Severus Snape Kept a Diary"

A certain day in September — Weather: Overcast — Mood: Ha!

The amount of disgusting nonsense at this school keeps increasing.

Now, any kind of creature can become a teacher—werewolves, half-giants, ha.

That annoying Gryffindor seems to get along quite well with them, even though that half-giant almost got her killed.

Last week, during the staff meeting, I took the opportunity to harshly ridicule the half-giant. Later, I made her stand in class as punishment and gave her detention.

The thought of what happened that night still infuriates me. Where on earth did that foolish girl learn such a vulgar term? How dare she address me like that! It must have been those Weasley boys who corrupted her. If only she were a Slytherin...

Forget it. Perhaps the werewolf will bite her during the next full moon. I might as well wish her a swift death.

(After finishing his diary entry, Snape tossed aside his quill and returned to the cauldron to continue brewing Wolfsbane Potion.)

# 正文部分

In the following weeks, everything seemed calm—at least for Orli.

She continued her routine of helping in the Potions office every Saturday afternoon, and Snape, as usual, assigned her tasks and occasionally gave her a few pointers. The tension from that fateful night appeared to have never occurred.

More and more people started liking Lupin, not just those in Gryffindor. His subsequent lessons were as engaging and lively as the first. Following the Boggart, they studied several other unpleasant magical creatures, such as Red Caps and Kappas.

Meanwhile, Trelawney remained obsessed with making them interpret tea leaves. Parvati and Lavender were particularly fond of her. They often spent their lunch breaks in the North Tower and would return imitating Trelawney's mysterious tone, as if they had glimpsed everyone's future. Orli quickly taught Ron and Harry how to deal with Trelawney: simply predict your own death, disaster, illness, or heartbreak, and you'll get a high grade on your homework.

Hagrid, on the other hand, seemed deeply discouraged. After the unexpected excitement of the first lesson, his class became incredibly dull. They now spent lesson after lesson learning how to care for Flobberworms. Although Orli paid him a special visit, Hagrid had become overly cautious.

Of course, every four weeks, these short-lived Flobberworms would still meet their end at Orli's hands, destined to become part of Hogwarts' potion ingredient stock. She found the process of raising the worms only to kill them herself rather absurd.

One sunny weekend afternoon in mid-October, Orli carried a large basket of worms down to the dungeons. Rare beams of sunlight filtered through the castle windows, but as soon as she descended underground, all light vanished, leaving only the faint glow of torches on the corridor walls.

The dungeons were quiet. Snape was standing by a cauldron, brewing something. Orli, understanding the unspoken rules, refrained from disturbing him and instead found a small table to process the worms. After finally sending all the Flobberworms to "Merlin's embrace," she looked up, rubbed her sore neck, and was about to stretch when she caught Snape's gaze.

"If you're done with that—" Snape said, nodding toward a nearby shelf with a deep frown on his face, "go through all the classroom assignments from first to third years on that rack. Separate out the ones that are barely acceptable, and dispose of the rest. Empty the potion bottles."

Obediently, Orli walked over to the shelf. It was stacked high with rows of small potion bottles, each filled with potions of various colors. A few were passable, some were of excellent quality, but most were bizarre hues that looked like they could poison someone to death.
