In the magical world, spells undergo a natural selection process similar to that in nature. There are countless spells designed to hinder one's senses, but those rarely used or difficult to cast have been eliminated over time, disappearing into the annals of history.
Those with excellent effectiveness and cost-efficiency, such as the Muffliato Charm and the Sight Charm, have been preserved.
To achieve the best effect, these spells typically target a single sense of the spell's target. Completely disabling all an opponent's senses requires the coordination and interaction of multiple spells.
But truly achieving this result sounds difficult, and executing it is even harder.
Not only must all spells be correctly cast, but they must also accurately hit the target. The difficulty of achieving both is considerable.
Is there a simpler alternative spell with less demanding technique?
Yes, there are spells that directly obscure the opponent's senses with external objects.
For instance, Misty Veil.
Although it can simultaneously hinder all senses of everyone within its range to some extent, Misty Veil is clearly not as effective as those spells specializing in obstructing a particular sense. Furthermore, if the caster is within the misty range, their own senses will also be hindered by the spell.
Is that all there is?
Are these the only means in the magical world?
Clearly not. There are many more profound spells hidden across the world, in ancient books, buried in unknown ruins, or within the minds of great wizards.
In the Dragon Kingdom, in magical books passed down from ancient times, recording countless sorceries related to magic, there exists such a sorcery.
Its name: Night Veil.
............
"Night Veil."
With Glenn's steady mind and firm belief, the incantation was uttered in Chinese, releasing black, eerie smoke tinged with crimson from her body, enveloping the entire second-floor girls' bathroom almost instantly.
The Basilisk's vision in its remaining eye fell into darkness, its sight vanished, and its hearing was completely impaired. After being hit by explosives, it opened its mouth in pain, inhaling a large amount of black smoke unexpectedly, rendering its sense of smell and taste ineffective.
More terrifyingly, once these black fumes contacted its massive body, they quickly covered its cold scales. Under the magical erosion, the Basilisk's touch gradually numbed, and ultimately, it couldn't even feel its own existence.
Not only that, even its heat-sensing organs completely lost their original function. The Basilisk was now lost in a world of darkness.
Night Veil, a fusion of magic and spiritual power, spreads black mist with a certain erosive force centered on the caster. Anyone who comes into contact with it loses all senses, lost in darkness and fear, as if banished from the world.
This is the most basic application of the devouring characteristic of magical power, recorded in the first few pages of the magic book. Even so, Glenn mastered this sorcery only through rigorous and arduous training.
Due to the constant erosion and control of magic by the Sorcerer with Magical Affliction, even within the range of Night Veil, Glenn would not be affected by this sorcery.
Behind Glenn, Hermione, clad in black satin, possessed the restraining power of magic, the power of sanctity, and would not be affected. Even if she wasn't a Sorcerer with Sanctity, the shared senses between the two, along with Glenn's maintained heightened perception, allowed her to clearly observe the surroundings within Night Veil.
The Basilisk, completely losing its sense of existence, was terrified and panicked, its massive body aimlessly but powerfully thrashing, destroying surrounding wooden boards and stone bricks.
Yet Glenn did not stop her actions. Maintaining the release of Night Veil and suppressing the restless Obscurial within, Glenn crouched down, hands touching the ground.
"Transmute..."
Under the cover of black mist, even the light symbolizing the start of the alchemical array's transmutation was devoured. Countless alchemical patterns began spreading across the ground, and the alchemical materials Glenn had arranged around were transmuted upon contact with the patterns.
"Interwoven Cage."
With the chanting of the latter part of the incantation, Glenn felt most of her magical power being drawn by the alchemical array, and the liquid transmuted materials around the Basilisk absorbed magic power and instantly reshaped.
Savage, barbed, irregular pillars made of unknown hard composite materials rose from the ground, crisscrossing to lock the thrashing Basilisk within the gaps between the pillars.
The barbs formed from alchemical materials with anti-magic properties pierced the Basilisk's scales and stabbed into its flesh. However, with its senses sealed and existence weakened, the Basilisk could only feel an inexplicable twitch within its body, unable even to feel pain.
Driven by biological survival instincts, the Basilisk keenly sensed the danger of its current situation and began struggling vigorously. The barbs on the savage pillars dug deeper, but the Interwoven Cage began to gradually fracture and loosen.
The Basilisk's physical strength remained formidable.
Glenn did not intend to continue using alchemy to reinforce the alchemical creation. She had already drawn a dagger from her sleeve and gripped it in reverse, charging towards the Basilisk.
Her goal was never to rely on her alchemy to inflict significant damage on the Basilisk. As long as she could restrain it for a while, allowing her to close in and destroy the Basilisk's remaining eye, that would suffice.
And during the time she reached the Basilisk's eye, the task of restraining the Basilisk was entrusted to Hermione.
White lights streaked past Glenn's side, precisely hitting the Interwoven Cage restraining the Basilisk. The Transfiguration Charm submerged within, transforming those savage pillars instantly. As they shrank, they interconnected and twisted the direction of the gaps.
The Basilisk, already fixed in place, was further immobilized by Hermione's additional Transfiguration Charm. Utilizing her mastery of knowledge, understanding of Glenn's created Interwoven Cage structure, and her heightened perception of minute details, Hermione used Transfiguration to further stabilize the cage's form, dispersing the Basilisk's immense force, preventing it from breaking Glenn's alchemical creation for the time being.
The thoughtful young girl even separated a portion of the pillars into flexible ropes, tightly binding the Basilisk's large mouth to prevent it from unintentionally injuring Glenn.
The entire process took less than a second, and Glenn had already reached the Basilisk's remaining right eye.
Black substances coiled around her dagger.
With a swift slash, black light flashed, and her left hand pushed against the dagger's hilt, combining force in a stab!
In the next instant, the magic energy entwined around the dagger eroded and broke through the Basilisk's magical defense, the cold blade piercing its heavy eyelid, the sharp edge fully embedded in the Basilisk's tightly shut right eye.
