"Total Concentration—channel every ounce of your strength. Under the influence of psychic power, force an irreversible enhancement on yourself… this technique is far too dangerous!"
Gabriel shook his head, instinctively rejecting Meyu's suggestion. The mere sound of it made him uneasy—this kind of ability could cause irreversible damage to a Pokémon if anything went wrong. It just wasn't worth the risk for a single battle.
Meyu sighed and gave Kaka a regretful look.
"There's no other way. It's the only method I can think of. Without it, we stand no chance against Vespiquen."
Kaka clenched his beak in frustration, staring at Meyu with reluctant acceptance.
Was he really destined to remain just a Farfetch'd?
Even beyond Gigantamax, Little Mu (Dratini) was already a powerful Dragon-type Pokémon. James's Scyther possessed an incredible speed that even he struggled to match. And while King's Abra was still weak now, its psychic potential was staggering. Once it started unleashing its power, it would evolve into an overwhelmingly strong Pokémon in no time.
But what did he have? Just some latent psychic talent?
Whenever he faced powerful opponents like today's Vespiquen, even his basic physical conditioning was inferior. How was he supposed to win a battle like that? If it weren't for the intense training from Meyu and Gabriel, he wouldn't even be where he was now.
Hard work could make up for a lack of talent, but there was still a massive gap in species potential—and that was a gap that hard work alone couldn't always bridge. Maybe this dangerous ability was the only way he could catch up.
(Scyther and Abra: Okay, now that's just humblebragging!)
Resolved, Kaka looked at Gabriel with unwavering determination in his eyes.
(Gabriel, I want to undergo this training.)
"No. It's just too dangerous."
Kaka didn't say a word, but his steady gaze said everything that needed to be said.
Gabriel stared back, equally serious. he hadn't forgotten how Little Mu's (Dratini) Gigantamax training had nearly cost her that Pokémon. he couldn't make the same mistake again.
Neither trainer nor Pokémon would back down—until Little Mu (Dratini) stepped in to mediate.
(Let's not rush. Let's hear Meyu out first, okay?)
Meyu quickly stepped forward.
"Actually, this technique, while risky, can really accelerate Kaka's growth if handled properly. Since this is an innate ability of his, that means it can be mastered. And if he can fully control it, it might no longer be dangerous at all."
Gabriel gave Kaka a resigned look. With Meyu's endorsement and Kaka's unwavering resolve, he had little choice but to support them. he was the trainer, after all—and if there was risk in the training, then he needed to be there to take responsibility.
"I'll support your training. But only under one condition—your health and safety must come first."
Kaka beamed with joy at Gabriel's response.
"Don't get too excited just yet. Even if I've agreed, I don't have the skill to protect you during such dangerous training—and neither does Meyu. We need to bring in Everette. With his experience, he can minimize the risks."
There was no denying that Everette, as a Gym Leader, was far more seasoned than Gabriel in both skill and knowledge. There was still so much he had to learn before he could guide his Pokémon through training like this alone.
Still, both Little Mu and Kaka had just come out of an intense battle. Their bodies needed time to recover before they could train again. Better to wait until tomorrow.
The Next Day
Gabriel once again sought out Everette. He'd assumed he was coming to challenge him to a battle, but was surprised when he instead asked for help training his Pokémon.
"Can't your Beast just train itself?"
"It's Pokémon," Gabriel corrected.
"Right, right. Pokémon. Can't it train on its own?"
Gabriel gave him an awkward look. True, already asked for his help several times, but it wasn't like he could do much—his training ability still had a long way to go. That said, he did have money.
he pulled out a small box from his pocket.
Everette's expression brightened as he took it and gave it a quick shake.
"The latest model?"
His eyes sparkled as he opened the box. The familiar scent confirmed it—just what he was hoping for.
"Well, since you've come all this way… how could I say no?"
Everette quietly tucked the energy cube into his pocket, then patted his chest with confidence.
Gabriel released all of his Pokémon for him to inspect. Aside from his Rotom Phone, the rest were in decent condition.
He took special note of the Rotom Phone. So this was the new project from Jindu Academy? A nurturing-type Pokémon? Interesting. He hadn't heard anything about it—then again, he did have a part-time role at Jindu Academy, and their secrecy meant he was likely one of the few who even knew it existed. They were clearly planning something big.
But that had nothing to do with him.
Putting the Rotom aside, Everette turned to Gabriel.
"So which Beast I-i-i mean Pokémon needs my help?"
Kaka stepped forward, standing proudly before him.
"This one, huh? Farfetch'd. I remember it—it has psychic potential, right? A rare mutation."
Everette studied Kaka closely before turning back to Gabriel.
"What do you want me to do?"
Gabriel scratched his head.
"It's nothing major. After yesterday's battle, Kaka discovered a new use for his psychic powers. But it's risky—so we need your help in case he gets hurt during training."
A new application of psychic power? Everette was intrigued. So this Farfetch'd still had untapped potential? This was getting interesting.
He brought Gabriel into a private training room. As a Gym Leader with a teaching position at Jindu Academy, it wasn't hard for him to reserve a room like this.
Once inside, Everette gestured for the training to begin.
"Meyu, you're on data analysis. Kaka, start when you're ready."
Kaka closed his eyes, recalling the feeling he had during the fight with Vespiquen. Moments passed—but nothing happened.
"Huh? That's not right. Why isn't anything happening?"
"Probably not under enough pressure," Everette said simply.
With that, he released his own Vespiquen. If Kaka had awakened this ability in battle, then training had to replicate that scenario.
Under Everette's command, Vespiquen released her full battle aura for the first time in Kaka's presence. The sheer pressure brought back vivid memories of their previous fight. That overwhelming presence reignited the sensation in Kaka's core—the one that had pushed him beyond his limits.
His body began to flush red, his temperature rising—he looked like he was about to overheat from the inside out.
