Gabriel stared, stunned, as Dratini underwent Dynamax transformation. Under the influence of the wristband, Dratini had become an enormous behemoth—one that looked far more complete than his previous transformation, which relied on the inherited rage energy from the Dynamax Dragonite's Outrage.
The difference was undeniable. If the old version of Dynamaxing resembled an underdeveloped form, this was a true colossus—radiating overwhelming presence that couldn't even be compared to before.
"All right, Vespiquen, return."
Everette lifted his wrist, and a surge of violet energy pulsed between Vespiquen and the band. A massive stream of Dynamax energy surged out from the Pokémon and flowed into his Dynamax Band. Vespiquen, now returned to her regular size, looked completely drained, as though she had just emerged from an intense battle.
Recalling her to her Béast Ball,Everette turned to Gabriel with a proud smile.
"Well? Not bad for a piece of research, right?"
"This… this is a Dynamax Band?!"
Gabriel stared blankly at the device in his hand. He never imagined that Everette had managed to invent something so incredible.
"Dynamax Band? I like that name. From now on, that's what we'll call it."
Even as he calmed down, Gabriel couldn't stop staring at Dratini. His eyes widened again.
"Why do I feel like Dratini got even bigger than before?"
Everette looked on in satisfaction, completely unsurprised by the change.
"Of course he did. Before, the Dynamax energy from the Dragonite was stored within the Outrage. Dratini could only tap into a fraction of it. He hadn't yet fully grasped the energy himself.
"But over time, through continuous training, Dratini's body became more and more attuned to the Dynamax energy within Outrage. His ability to withstand it increased, and eventually, his physiology began to resonate with it. Even without a band, it's only a matter of time before he can achieve a perfect Dynamax transformation on his own."
Then, with excitement that contrasted sharply with his usual researcher calm, Everette tapped the band on his wrist again.
"But here's the thing—even if Dratini can fully adapt eventually, that could take a long time. But with the Dynamax Band, it's a whole different story!"
"The band can absorb and store Dynamax energy. It draws power from both the Dragonite's Outrage and Dratini's internal reserves. When needed, it can release all of it at once, allowing a Beast to achieve a full, perfected Dynamax form."
As the last of the stored Dynamax energy was discharged, Gabriel looked up at Everette, concern flickering in his eyes.
"But pouring that much energy into Dratini's body at once—wouldn't there be serious side effects?"
"Of course," Everette replied matter-of-factly. "But I already accounted for that. I built a limiter into the band. It only releases as much Dynamax energy as the Beast can safely handle. Worst-case scenario, they'll just be exhausted after the transformation."
No wonder Vespiquen looked so drained after her Dynamax ended—it wasn't a technique that could be used casually. It was clearly a trump card.
As Gabriel continued to ponder, Dratini let out a soft, weary cry. Wisps of violet energy dispersed from his massive form and flowed back into the Dynamax Band, turning the gem at its core from black back to purple.
The transformation was complete.
Dratini collapsed onto the ground, completely spent—he didn't even have the strength to stand. All he could do was gaze up at Gabriel with bleary eyes.
Panicked, Gabriel rushed to scoop him up in his arms.
"A perfectly-executed Dynamax for the first time will do that," Everette said reassuringly. "My Vespiquen was the same way. Dratini just hasn't fully adapted to it yet. It takes a lot out of him, but he'll recover with time."
Gabriel looked down at Dratini, now peacefully asleep in his arms. No injuries—just pure fatigue. Everette had been right.
"So?" Everette grinned. "Isn't my invention amazing?"
His excitement was infectious—he no longer looked like a researcher, but more like a child showing off a brand-new toy.
"But Dratini could already Dynamax before," Gabriel said, puzzled. "Doesn't that make this a little... redundant?"
Everette smirked and tapped the gem on the band once more. A faint stream of Dynamax energy trickled from the band into Vespiquen's Béast Ball.
"You think the Dynamax Band is just for making Pokémon bigger?"
"I've been studying Dynamax energy for years," he explained. "And I discovered something strange. Dynamaxing doesn't simply make a Beast larger—it distorts the surrounding space, creating a visual illusion of increased size."
"But more than that, it enhances a Pokémon's overall physical abilities—strength, speed, even endurance. It's an incredible catalyst for growth."
Everette pointed to Vespiquen's Béast Ball with excitement burning in his eyes.
"I thought Vespiquen had already reached her limit. But now, with access to Dynamax energy, I can push her strength even further."
He clenched his fists.
"And if she keeps improving... I might finally be able to challenge the Elite Four."
The Elite Four.
Only four individuals across the entire Eastern Belarus region had ever reached that level. The idea that Everette was aiming for that elite rank—just by harnessing Dynamax energy—was almost unthinkable.
Gabriel was speechless. He'd always known that Dynamax energy was powerful, but to think someone would try to reach the top of the trainer world using just that…
"How do I use Dynamax energy to train Dratini?" he asked at last, setting aside his awe. Whether Everette became a member of the Elite Four or not was out of his control. His own goal was clear: to become an elite trainer himself. For that, he needed Dynamax training.
"That's easy," Everette said with a smile. "After all, Dynamax is a kind of divine—"
