Chapter 1 - Prologue - Amelia

(Why is life like this?)

As the sun shone through the window, curtains blowing with the wind, I sat on the bed daydreaming. Was it nervousness or fear? Was it happiness or anger? I couldn't seem to think straight about all the possibilities of what might or might not happen.

Feeling a cold but refreshing substance made me jump in surprise as water splashed, making my body cold and soaked to the bone. As I looked up, I saw two pairs of angry eyes staring down, shouting—but I couldn't hear a thing. Whispers whistled in my ears.

"Bitch, get up now and make us breakfast!" my mother spoke,

roaring in my ears like the wolf she is.

Sighing, I got up weakly, walking towards the bathroom, trying to get away. I locked it as I entered, looking at my reflection as a silent tear graced my cheek. Doing my duties, I entered the kitchen and started to prepare.

I was numb—in pain and suffering. I wasn't even thinking properly when I heard the sound of broken glass echoing and gracing the floor, followed by an angry shout from behind.

"YOU IDIOT! HOW DARE YOU BREAK MY GLASS? IT'S WORTH MORE THAN YOUR LIFE!"

Gripping a handful of my hair tightly between her fingers, she yanked hard. I let out a piercing scream that echoed through the hall, followed by a hard slap grazing my cheek—red fingerprints printed on the surface. Tears streamed down my face as I pleaded and begged to be let go.

"Mom, please let me go! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to! Please, let me go!" I cried as I stumbled to the floor, landing on my hand and almost grazing it. Another glass shattered near me, grazing my skin. I hissed in pain at the sudden contact.

"One more glass breaks, and you're out of this house. Understand?"

I nodded without a second thought, seeing her disgusting look as she eyed me before walking back to her room.

Sitting on the marble floor, silent tears left my cheeks. I looked at my body, barely eating anything since I was young. Being a slave—or maid—takes a lot out of a person.

"Why didn't the moon goddess just kill me? Why was I even born if this is how my life was going to be? Will my destined mate be the same? Why is this world only cruel to me?" I spoke, tears streaming down but quickly wiped them away.

Rising up, I went to clean, not caring about the small splinters of glass piercing my flesh.

"I hate this freaking life," I mumbled, feeling weak and tired—numb and unable to work any longer.

I was too late. Falling onto the surface with a loud thud, I crashed against the marble floor as my eyes closed, leaving me in the cold air—the dead.

When I opened my eyes, I looked around my surroundings. Everything was pitch black. Fear started to creep in as I held my hands tightly against my chest, praying it was just another nightmare.

"Amelia."

Cold but alluring, sexy but dangerous—the voice called my name, seizing my attention.

The dark figure stood tall, towering over me like a shield, blood everywhere on him. My body went numb; I couldn't move an inch, even when I tried to. Feeling his fingers grazing my cheek, he whispered softly but deadly,

"Wake up."

My eyes snapped open.
