"Kreeeaaah!"
A fierce sandstorm engulfed the entire area. Even Zapdos had its vision stripped away, forced to endure the cutting winds while letting out aimless cries. Thick bolts of lightning burst uncontrollably from its body, striking surrounding buildings and walls, each impact followed by deafening explosions.
Through Garchomp's vision, Liam watched the chaotic scene unfold—and knew the time to strike had come.
"Garchomp! It's your time to shine! Go—use Take Down!"
"Roarr!"
Hearing Liam's command, Garchomp roared fiercely and dove straight into the raging sandstorm. Its streamlined body cut through the swirling sand as if swimming through water, charging forward with tremendous momentum and slamming hard toward Zapdos!
"Kreeeaaah!"
But Zapdos had remained wary of ambushes. Just as Garchomp closed in, Zapdos sensed danger—a flash of golden light flickered in its eyes, and it flapped backward with explosive speed, evading the incoming charge by a hair's breadth.
"That's what I was waiting for! You used Detect! Garchomp—now use Outrage!!"
Because Zapdos knew Detect, defeating it head-on was tricky. Liam deliberately baited out the move first, then ordered a counterattack using the powerful Dragon-type assault!
"Roarr!"
Growling lowly, Garchomp spun midair and slammed down on a massive power generator, the steel echoing beneath its claws. Violet-blue Dragon energy instantly surged through its body, forming the outline of a savage dragon around it.
Then, with a mighty push of its legs, Garchomp launched skyward—its draconic aura tearing through the storm as it bit down toward the golden bird!
"Kreeeaaah!"
Feeling the overwhelming presence, Zapdos—having just used Detect—realized it couldn't evade this time. It let out a sharp cry and met the attack head-on, discharging an enormous surge of electricity! A blinding lightning column erupted upward, colliding with Garchomp's Outrage in midair.
BOOM!
A thunderous explosion shook the battlefield, the air thick with smoke and sand. The violent clash made it impossible to see who had the upper hand.
"Roarr!!"
Both sides had taken heavy recoil from the collision. Garchomp was blasted backward, crashing into a steel wall with a loud metallic clang.
"Kreeeaaah!"
Zapdos wasn't unscathed either—it staggered in midair, several golden feathers falling loose, clearly injured by the impact.
One of the drifting feathers fluttered down toward Liam. He caught it gently, feeling a faint electric tingle through his palm. Smiling faintly, he focused his will—and the feather transformed in a flash of golden light into a PokéBall marked with a lightning symbol, quietly resting in his hand.
"Let's end this, Garchomp! Use Rock Tomb!"
"Roarr!"
With a mighty bellow, several huge boulders materialized around Garchomp, then shot outward in rapid succession—trapping Zapdos in a prison of rock midair!
"Kreeeaaah!!"
Already half-blinded by the sandstorm, Zapdos panicked as massive stones suddenly encircled it. Its eyes widened with alarm—it screeched furiously, discharging electric blasts in all directions. Bolts shattered chunks of rock, the prison beginning to crumble.
"Now's the chance, Garchomp! Use Stone Edge!"
Liam frowned, then shouted decisively.
"Roarr!!"
White light shimmered above Garchomp's head as countless razor-sharp stones materialized—then launched like a storm of arrows toward the struggling Zapdos!
"Kreeeaaah! Kreeeaaah!"
Realizing the imminent threat, Zapdos let out an agitated cry. Electricity exploded outward from its body, blasting apart the surrounding rocks. Then, wings beating frantically, Zapdos transformed into a streak of lightning, weaving through the storm at breakneck speed.
But even with that speed, Garchomp's Stone Edge locked onto its target, relentlessly closing in under Liam's command.
BOOM!
"Kreeeaaah!"
One of the stone blades struck true, slamming into Zapdos's back. With a painful cry, the legendary bird spiraled downward, trailing sparks.
"Now! Go, Thunder Ball!"
As Zapdos fell through the fading sandstorm, Liam seized the moment and hurled the Thunder Ball with precision. It struck Zapdos cleanly—click!—a red light burst forth, enveloping the legendary bird before pulling it inside. The PokéBall snapped shut, wobbling gently in midair.
"Roarr!"
Garchomp burst from the sandstorm, catching the falling PokéBall in its mouth before soaring back toward Liam. It landed gracefully, dropping the Thunder Ball into his hand.
"Excellent work, Garchomp. You really gave it your all."
Liam smiled warmly, patting Garchomp's head as he held the now-still Thunder Ball.
"Garr~"
Pleased by the praise, Garchomp squinted happily, its eyes curving into crescent moons.
"Come on out, Zapdos!"
"Kreeeaaah!"
Liam opened the Ball, and with a flash of gold, the great electric bird reappeared—crackling with static, wings spread wide.
"For now, I'll be relying on you, Zapdos. I promise—once all of this is over, I'll set you free. You have my word. Until then, will you trust me and fight by my side?"
Liam's voice was calm and sincere, his eyes gleaming with unwavering honesty.
"Kreeeaaah…"
Zapdos stared at him for a long moment, then gave a small, deliberate nod before spreading its wings and letting out a powerful cry of acceptance.
