Floating between the standing Giovanni and the unconscious Eddie was an adorable little pink Pokémon.
Its body was a soft pink color, almost pure white, with a long tail that swayed back and forth in the air. It had tiny hands like those of a small child. Overall, it looked like an incredibly cute creature, one that could easily capture the hearts of anyone who saw it.
But Giovanni wasn't just anyone. Or rather, even if he were, he wouldn't want to see this particular creature at this moment.
"Why?! Why are you here right now?!"
Giovanni rarely lost his composure, but his face darkened until it was almost black with anger.
"Mew? Mew~~~"
The pink Pokémon—Mew—looked confused, as if it didn't understand why Giovanni was so furious.
But whether it understood or not didn't really matter. Mew wasn't here for Giovanni anyway.
"Huh... Mew, get out of my way, or I won't hold back."
When Giovanni saw Mew's puzzled expression, he seemed to realize that getting angry wouldn't help. He took a deep breath to calm himself down, then spoke in a commanding tone.
"Mew? Mew mew~~~"
Mew tilted its head when it heard that, with a hint of curiosity and confusion in its eyes.
It was curious about what Giovanni meant by "not holding back," and it didn't understand why he was speaking in such an authoritative tone.
But like he said, Mew hadn't come here looking for Giovanni. It had come to find Eddie.
When Mew arrived and saw that Giovanni seemed about to do something to Eddie, it decided to show itself.
"If you won't move aside... then I won't hold back..."
Giovanni prepared to attack. Even though the legendary Pokémon before him was Mew, he was ready to fight.
Although his Mega Beedrill, which could stand toe-to-toe with legendary beasts, wasn't here, he could still battle Mew with his current team.
Besides, he didn't need to defeat Mew. He just needed a few Pokémon to hold it off while his others finished off Eddie.
"GRAAAH!"
Mega Garchomp and Mega Tyranitar, the strongest on Eddie's team, stepped forward along with his other Pokémon to protect their fallen trainer. They roared fiercely at Giovanni.
"Hmph! Your trainer has already fallen. Now, what can you exhausted Pokémon do without anyone to command you?!"
"Besides, if I'm not mistaken, your strength has dropped from Champion level. A few quasi-Elite level Pokémon think they can stop me, Giovanni? Don't underestimate me!"
Giovanni sneered with disdain.
Yes, with Eddie's collapse, even though the outcome of the battle hadn't been decided yet, the effect of the Power of Viridian had worn off. Eddie's Pokémon had returned to their original quasi-Elite level strength.
Furthermore, this group of Pokémon had been fighting continuously since their battle with Lt. Surge at the Silph Building. The battle had lasted nearly five hours. It was natural that they were exhausted. They had even reverted from their Mega Evolution forms back to their normal states.
In this situation, Giovanni could defeat all of them with just one of his Pokémon. How could they possibly stop him?
"Humph! Today, no matter what happens, I must eliminate Eddie!"
"Nidoking, Nidoqueen..."
Giovanni showed a slightly fierce smile and was about to launch his attack.
"SCREEE!" "ZAAA!" "CAAAW!"
Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno—the three legendary birds—flew toward Giovanni despite their severely injured bodies.
Looking at their expressions that clearly said "come at us if you dare," Giovanni actually laughed in frustration.
"Fine! Fine! So now you're jumping out too, are you?!"
"But even so! With just these three injured legendary birds, don't think for a second..."
Giovanni said this, but inside he felt worse. He decided he couldn't wait any longer and had to act immediately!
"CRASH!"
"Who the hell is that again?! Come out! I want to see who dares to stop me from eliminating that brat today!"
Giovanni heard the sound and immediately roared in anger.
From the moment he was born until now, he had never felt as frustrated as he did today, and his patience had completely run out.
However, when he turned his head to look in the direction the sound came from, he froze.
He saw his strongest Pokémon, his most beloved partner, his ultimate Trump Card—his Mega Beedrill—lying in the ruins.
And above Beedrill in the sky, Mewtwo was floating there, covered in wounds.
However, despite all the injuries, Mewtwo had used Recover, and its body was now fully healed.
Although its energy and stamina couldn't be restored, Mewtwo could still continue fighting after recovering from its wounds.
Seeing this, Giovanni immediately calculated the battle power ratio between both sides in his mind.
On Eddie's side:
Nine exhausted quasi-Elite level Pokémon, the three severely damaged legendary birds, Mewtwo who had lost considerable energy and stamina, and one Mew in perfect condition.
On Giovanni's side:
Beedrill had fallen, Rhydon had used Self-Destruct, leaving only six Pokémon: Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Mega Aggron, Mega Garchomp, Rhyperior, and Dugtrio.
Giovanni quickly calculated the battle power distribution in his mind.
He would only need one Pokémon to deal with Eddie's nine exhausted Pokémon. The three legendary birds were severely injured, but he would still need to send one Pokémon to face each of them—that meant three Pokémon total. Although Mewtwo wasn't in its initial condition, it would still require at least two Pokémon. Mew wasn't particularly skilled at battling, but it would also need at least two Pokémon.
All together, Giovanni would need to deploy eight main Pokémon to break through their defenses.
Giovanni had other Pokémon, but they weren't part of his main team and didn't have Champion-level strength to participate in this battle.
If Beedrill and Rhydon hadn't fallen, he might still have been able to fight back, but now...
"...Koff! Koff!"
Giovanni pulled out his white handkerchief again, covered his mouth with it, and coughed several times, spitting up several mouthfuls of blood.
"...At a time like this... damn it!"
Giovanni now seemed to understand how Eddie must have felt earlier. Even though he still wanted to fight, his body no longer allowed him to continue.
In that case, there was only one answer.
"Eddie, you win and I lose. But the battle between us isn't over yet. We'll settle this next time."
In Giovanni's mind, this battle had been fought to eliminate Eddie. Failing to accomplish that goal meant defeat.
Furthermore, if it hadn't been for the three legendary birds intervening, it was hard to say who would have fallen here today.
"My strength still isn't enough, and..."
"...Hah... In this situation, Team Rocket can only lie low for the time being."
Giovanni's eyes flickered as he muttered to himself for a while. Then he recalled his Beedrill into its Poké Ball and left the area under the escort of his six remaining Pokémon.
At this point, the battle between Eddie and Giovanni was temporarily over.
