Without waiting for Eddie's command, his Pokémon launched into action with perfect coordination. Their bond with their trainer had grown strong enough that they could anticipate his wishes in battle situations like this.
Eddie deliberately chose not to use Mega Evolution or Bond Evolution for this encounter. Using such powerful transformations against these opponents would be excessive and wasteful. These techniques were his trump cards, meant for truly challenging battles, not for dealing with wild Pokémon driven by simple instinct.
Charizard, Snorlax, Flareon, and Garchomp—all four Pokémon capable of fire-type attacks—opened their mouths simultaneously and unleashed blazing streams of Flamethrower against the charging Beedrill swarm. The coordinated assault created a wall of intense flames that few of the attacking Bug-types could penetrate.
The Beedrill swarm's numbers meant little when their strength varied so dramatically. Only the five strongest members—those with Peak-level power or above—possessed the speed and skill necessary to dodge the devastating fire attacks. The remaining Beedrill found themselves completely outmatched, and any who failed to avoid the flames were immediately burned unconscious, their bodies tumbling from the sky.
While the fire-type specialists handled crowd control, Lucario, Sceptile, and Greninja focused their attention on the Gym Leader-level threats within the Beedrill ranks. These three represented the swarm's most dangerous members and required direct confrontation from Eddie's strongest team members.
Lucario dominated its opponent through sheer martial prowess, alternating between powerful Meteor Mash strikes with its left arm and devastating Blaze Kick attacks with its right leg. The Fighting/Steel-type's relentless combination assault kept the strongest Gym Leader-level Beedrill completely on the defensive, unable to mount any effective counterattack. At this rate, the bee Pokémon would be defeated within minutes.
Sceptile and Greninja adopted a different strategy, using their superior mobility to frustrate their respective opponents. Both Pokémon repeatedly employed Aerial Ace, a Flying-type move that carried significant advantage against the Bug/Poison-type Beedrill. The super-effective attacks forced their enemies into purely defensive patterns, unable to risk aggressive advances.
Recognizing that its natural Grass-type moves would be resisted by the Poison-typing of its opponent, Sceptile adapted its fighting style accordingly. Sceptile alternated between Aerial Ace for consistent damage, Dragon Pulse for unexpected range, and Thunder Punch for close-quarters combat. This diverse moveset kept its Beedrill opponent constantly guessing and steadily wearing down its defenses.
Greninja faced perhaps the most advantageous matchup of all, thanks to its unique Protean ability. The ninja frog could change its typing at will, allowing it to become Flying-type when using Aerial Ace for maximum damage. Beyond this signature move, Greninja primarily relied on Smack Down and Extrasensory—Rock-type and Psychic-type attacks respectively. Both move types carried super-effective damage against Bug/Poison Pokémon, creating a devastating combination that left its opponent barely able to respond.
Among the three Gym Leader-level Beedrill, Greninja's target appeared closest to defeat, overwhelmed by the constant barrage of super-effective attacks.
While the higher-level battles raged overhead, Pupitar experienced the most excitement of any team member. With Lucario and the others engaged against the Gym Leader threats, the two remaining Peak-level Beedrill became Pupitar's responsibility—and the Rock-type couldn't have been happier with this arrangement.
As a Pokémon standing on the verge of reaching Gym Leader status itself, Pupitar possessed the strength necessary to handle multiple Peak-level opponents simultaneously. The cocoon Pokémon reveled in this opportunity to prove its growing power.
Pupitar began its assault by generating a fierce Sandstorm, creating a swirling vortex of sand and debris that disoriented both Peak-level Beedrill while providing cover for follow-up attacks. Within the sandy chaos, Pupitar unleashed a devastating combination of Rock-type moves: Rock Slide sent boulders cascading from above, Stone Edge created razor-sharp stone projectiles, and Rock Throw provided rapid-fire smaller stones for sustained pressure.
The four-move Rock-type combination proved overwhelming for the two Peak-level Beedrill. Already struggling with the type disadvantage and the obscuring sandstorm, they found themselves unable to coordinate an effective defense. Within minutes, both opponents had been battered unconscious by Pupitar's relentless stone assault.
Remarkably, Pupitar had achieved the fastest victory among all the high-level combatants, single-handedly defeating two Peak-level opponents in a two-versus-one battle. The speed and decisiveness of this triumph spoke volumes about Pupitar's approaching evolution and increasing strength.
Unfortunately, the defeated Peak-level Beedrill proved to be relatively low-level specimens at only level 41 each. Their defeat provided insufficient experience to trigger any level gains for Eddie's stronger Pokémon, particularly those already at Gym Leader status like Charizard.
"Beedrill really don't provide much experience, whether in games or reality," Eddie muttered with mild disappointment. However, he knew better than to complain about free training opportunities, especially with three Gym Leader-level opponents still providing ongoing experience through the continuing battles.
While Eddie's team dominated the aerial combat, the Venusaur clan didn't remain idle spectators. They actively engaged any Beedrill that managed to slip past Charizard's fire attacks, using their own Grass-type moves to knock down stragglers and protect their territory.
Few Beedrill actually penetrated the wall of flames created by Eddie's fire-types, but the Venusaur clan stood ready to handle any that did. More often, however, they found themselves watching in amazement at the display of coordinated power from Eddie's team.
"Saur saur~~~" The massive clan patriarch rumbled in awe, expressing what all the grass-types were thinking about Eddie's incredible strength.
Initially, the Venusaur had assumed Eddie possessed only a single Peak-level Garchomp based on their earlier observations. The revelation that he commanded four Gym Leader-level Pokémon plus multiple Peak-level team members completely exceeded their expectations.
Watching this battle unfold, they realized that the Beedrill swarm—which could have devastated their entire clan—was being effortlessly handled by Eddie alone. This demonstration of power sparked animated discussions among the tribe members.
One of the Peak-level Venusaur approached the clan patriarch, speaking in urgent, hushed tones. The tribe leader's expression initially showed reluctance, but after witnessing more of Eddie's capabilities and listening to the persuasive arguments from the clan members, it slowly nodded in agreement to some unspoken proposal.
Eddie remained focused on the battle and failed to notice this important exchange among the Venusaur clan leadership.
The combat didn't continue much longer. After Pupitar finished with its Peak-level opponents and joined Charizard's group in cleaning up the remaining weak Beedrill, the tide turned completely. Greninja and Lucario systematically defeated their respective Gym Leader opponents before combining forces to overwhelm the final remaining threat.
Ten minutes after the battle began, every single Beedrill lay unconscious on the garden floor. None possessed the strength to stand, let alone attempt escape.
"Ding! Charizard gained experience! Level increased by 1 to level 51!"
"Ding! Lucario gained experience! Level increased by 1 to level 51!"
"Ding! Sceptile gained experience! Level increased by 1 to level 51! Learned False Swipe!"
"Ding! Greninja gained experience! Level increased by 1 to level 51!"
"Ding! Eevee gained experience! Level increased by 3 to level 49!"
"Ding! Gengar gained experience! Level increased by 3 to level 49! Learned Shadow Ball!"
"Ding! Snorlax gained experience! Level increased by 2 to level 51!"
"Ding! Pupitar gained experience! Level increased by 2 to level 51!"
"Ding! Garchomp gained experience! Level increased by 2 to level 51!"
The experience distribution reflected each Pokémon's current strength level: Gym Leader-level team members gained one level each, those approaching Gym Leader status increased by two levels, while Eevee and Gengar—still building their foundation—jumped three levels. The three Gym Leader-level Beedrill had indeed provided substantial training value.
"Now, to prevent future problems, I'll handle this situation properly," Eddie said with cold determination, raising his hand decisively.
Without hesitation, he began throwing Poké Ball after Poké Ball, systematically capturing every unconscious Beedrill scattered across the garden floor. The rapid succession of successful captures created a steady rhythm of clicking sounds as each ball secured its target.
Leaving them to recover and potentially return for revenge would be foolish. Killing them would be unnecessarily cruel and wasteful. Capture represented the most practical solution—gaining new team members while permanently resolving the territorial conflict.
"This is definitely my first time conducting such a large-scale capture operation," Eddie mused as he surveyed the numerous Poké Balls now containing his new acquisitions. "Thank goodness my backpack uses expanded space technology, or I'd never be able to carry this many Poké Balls."
Eddie's Pokémon assisted in the collection process, carefully gathering each occupied Poké Ball and bringing them to their trainer. Eddie systematically stored each ball in his backpack, creating an efficient assembly line of capture, collection, and storage.
The entire collection process required nearly ten minutes to complete, demonstrating just how large the Beedrill swarm had actually been. The sheer number of new captures would require significant planning to manage effectively.
