The red eyes widened, and the monster surged forward. The water split apart with a roar like thunder, the sound rattling Selvaris's bones before he even had time to breathe. Then its jaws snapped shut around him.
Agony ripped through his body as teeth like swords pierced flesh and bone. He felt himself lifted from the ground, helpless in its grip, his ribs shattering under the crushing force. The sound of it, bones snapping, grinding, tearing apart, is louder than his own screams.
"Arggghhhhhhhh—!" His voice broke into a ragged shriek, raw and animal, echoing in the cavern of his throat.
He felt the monster's jaws grind down, slicing through him, splitting him apart. His lower body went numb as his spine gave way with a sickening crack. The world tilted; he could see his body tearing in two.
