Chapter 34 - Hunters

Finn and Sage stood a ways off on the busy street, looking at The Abattoir from a safe distance.

A man walks over to them, "That's the place. It has the carving you said and everything. I heard arguing inside, and the names you mentioned were being thrown around," said the random person they compelled to check it out.

"Good job," said Finn.

Sage hangs up her phone, "I've checked they're in there, or at least Klaus and Elijah are. They can't seem to locate Kol."

"Not surprising, he was always obsessed with magic," said Finn.

"Should we go? I doubt you'll be able to do anything today," said Sage.

"Yeah, I can smell them from here. He's made more hybrids," said Finn. Three Originals and an army of hybrids, even if most of them were 2nd generation since Klaus couldn't create anymore, was still too much to take all at once.

Finn turns to the man, then asks Sage, "Hey, you wouldn't happen to have any pictures of my siblings on you, would you?"

"No," said Sage.

"I'll be right back," said Finn, vanishing into the crowd and then returning with a sheet of paper with sketches of his siblings on it.

Addressing the compelled man, Finn handed him the sheet, "I want you to stay here and tell me when this one leaves, and while you're at it, report how many new faces you see enter and exit the place."

"We should head over and get our group settled while we wait," suggested Sage.

"Sure, and have them look into the supernatural history of this place, and that Marcel fellow. He's a 1st generation, even if he's weakened himself with vervain," said Finn.

"Should I have our group start taking vervain?" asked Sage.

"No, I think it'd be better if I compel them in a way that supersedes any outside influence so they can stay at their strongest," said Finn.

"They're not going to like that," said Sage.

Finn scoffed, "If they'd rather take vervain, then let them, no sweat off my back."

...

At St. Anne's Church, a Catholic church that is known as the "heart" of the French Quarter neighborhood of New Orleans where Father Kieran works as a priest.

Inside, he was having a meeting with a group of hunters.

"Thanks for receiving us, Father Kieran. These are dark times," said Pastor Young, a middle-aged man with light brown hair and blue eyes. He had a tall stature and medium build, wearing a clergyman's regular attire.

"Think nothing of it, Pastor Young. We should all be working together to bring back the light," said Father Kieran.

"Alright, enough foreplay, it's time to get down to business," said Tripp.

"Agreed," said Connor Jordan, a tall and physically fit African American.

"Eh, I like a bit of foreplay before work," said Galen Vaughn, a Scottish man in his late 20s with light hair and slight facial scruff.

"Why am I not surprised," said Penny.

Galen grinned, "Give me a night sweetheart, and I'll surprise you."

She rolled her eyes.

"And we need him, why?" asked Jay, pointing his thumb at Galen.

Galen smirked, "Perhaps the Father didn't trust your skills, and can you blame him?"

"You want to go tough guy? I'm right here," said Jay, stepping up with arms outstretched invitingly.

Tripp stepped between them, "Enough, we have more important things to worry about."

"Apologies Father, being on the road so long gets to some of us," said Bob.

"Speak for yourself, old man," Jay grumbled.

"I've called Connor and Galen to help you; they're the best hunters around, and we'll need them, along with you, to get through this. Now, I'm sure you're all aware that vampires from all over have been arriving here. What you may not know is the reason: The Originals, the progenitors of the vampire race, are here in this city as we speak," said Father Kieran.

"Bullshit, next you'll be telling me angels and devils are real," said Jay snidely.

Everyone just stared at him as if he were an idiot.

"What?" asked a confused Jay.

Galen chuckled while Penny shook her head in exasperation.

Ignoring that, Tripp turned back to Father Kieran, "You're telling me, The Originals are real?"

"Yes, as hard as that may be to believe for some of you. The Original family is very much real, and they're here in this town. I suggest you do everything you possibly can to avoid them since they can't be killed, or at least we don't know how to kill them, despite the rumors of one perishing and all those they created dying with them. So, until we know how it was done, they are effectively invincible and must be avoided at all costs," said Father Kieran, passing out pictures of Klaus, Elijah, and Kol.

"This is them?" asked Bob.

"All except one, I don't have a picture of him, so be careful out there," answered Father Kieran.

"Oh, I almost forgot. They have hybrids now, half vampire, half werewolf, since Klaus the Original broke some curse turning himself into one. They're stronger and faster than regular vampires with the venom to match," said Father Kieran.

"You got to be shitty me," said Tripp.

"Afraid not my son," Father Kieran replied.

"Okay, do they look any different?" asked Galen.

"Not that I know of; though the good news, or somewhat good news I should say, is that they tend to stay together, rarely leaving Klaus's side and following his orders like loyal dogs without any will of their own. It's believed they're either all sired or compelled to obey him," said Father Kieran.

"What about the witches?" asked Pastor Young.

"Unfortunately, recent developments have put them at odds with the rest of us, making collaboration less amicable. I'm trying to rectify that now," said Father Kieran.

"What exactly do you want us to do?" asked Connor.

"What I want is for you to cut down on the number of vampires, save lives, and keep the peace," said Father Kieran.

"Speaking of peace, I've heard you had some sort of agreement with the vampires in this town, will this not threaten that?" asked Pastor Young.

"I have a tentative treaty with some of the vampires here, the natives, if you will, but as I said, more have been entering the city by the day, and they're certainly not a part of it. And as for threatening it, none of you are officially associated with us," said Father Kieran.

Tripp scoffed angrily, "So you'll hang us out to dry for some bullshit vampire treaty you got?"

"I didn't say that. I, of course, will stand with you when you need me, but your outside status will help give us leeway," said Father Kieran.

"I don't know Tripp, this all sounds dangerous," said Bob.

Jay snorted, "Why are you even here Bob? You should be in some nursing home."

"And you should be in diapers," said Galen zealously.

"That's it, let's fucking go!" said Jay as Tripp once more held him back with Galen laughing from behind.

Connor shook his head, "And you want us to work together?" he asked Father Kieran and Pastor Young, looking at immature dumbassery.

"Jay can be a bit of a problem, but Tripp can keep him in line," said Pastor Young.

"I work better on my own," said Connor, taking his leave.

"I agree with him," said Galen, leaving next.

Kieran sighed, "At least watch out for each other in the field."

"I'm sure we will. Until next time, Father Kieran," said Pastor Young, following Tripp and the group out.

Kieran waved them off, "Until next time, Pastor Young."
