CHAPTER 17
He left the room as soon as he was done eating. It wasn't hard for him to find a way out by asking the maids around and since his sister hadn't tried to stop he was sure it was okay.
As she was at the moment, he couldn't differentiate between her and their mother without their different hair colors and on top of that, the powers of the two he had seen thus far had increased tenfold.
Now he just wanted somewhere quiet and secluded where he could see what use his new abilities could be to him. He already had basic descriptions, but it did seem catchy that no certain drawback was mentioned about the abilities.
"Is this one of the system's flaws? I'm sure every one of these abilities should at least have a certain consequence." He thought walking forward.
It was a long walk through the main city and to the outer parts of the city and he managed to find a few abandoned buildings.
The area's former residents most likely left a long time ago as the roofs and walls had already begun falling off.
The first ability he wanted to try out was his soul perception; a necromancer-based skill that allowed him to sense the presence of spiritual energy around him, especially from the dead.
But that was when a strange message suddenly popped up before him...
Ding!
(Insufficient celestial points)
(You have not been granted the celestial essence of Enma; the god of death)
"What the hell?" He gasped, staring at his palms. "I feel like this system is turning into more of a problem each time of the day."
With that, he slowly turned around, looking back at where he had just come from. It was a long walk, about two hundred and fifty meters but he could still easily manage it.
He tried using the ability once again, but he still received the same system message, although this time a bit different.
(System lvl:2)
(Target 1/2)
(Titles:
1; Special grade fire exorcist,
2; Saint Of Death)
(Abilities:- Fire;
Flame recreation
Flame absorption
Flame manipulation
Flame breathing...
The list continued on for about thirty more and after looking through all of them, he decided to try out something else.
"Flame recreation huh." He thought, holding out both his hands with a huge smirk on his face.
A ball of flames slowly began building up on his palms and he immediately blasted the ball of flames away towards one of the houses.
And as the flames grew bigger with each passing second, he held his hand forward once again and the flames slowly began flowing towards him. The flames continued to dwindle almost like they disappearing into thin air.
He quickly folded his hand with a huge smile on his face just seeing how much progress he made just by lying on a bed for a whole month, but he seriously needed to see whoever it was that had given him this new ability of his one more time.
The existence of gods was surely no joke around here, but surely it still had him perplexed that not a single human being had seen one of these gods before or even what they looked like.
There were rumors that the first disciples may have seen them before gaining their abilities. They thought the generation after the ways of the gods, and many came to be chosen after that.
"If you want to awaken the first disciples one last time and have them asked a few questions, I would highly suggest you not. And also, we don't have much time left either." An intense feminine voice suddenly came from the right behind him.
He turned around instantly, trying to see who it was, but to his surprise, no one was there. Whoever it was had suddenly vanished and now he was left confused.
"Was it all in my head? I'm sure I heard a lady just now." He thought keenly looking around the place.
"Stop trying to look for me, cause you won't find me. Come to to the brothel at the Eastern corner of the city, I'll be waiting for you at the entrance." The voice spoke once again.
"Telepathy huh, and she asked me to meet her at the red light district of all places. What's the deal here, and what would a girl possibly my age be doing at a brothel."
"I see now that you are quite stupid."
"What the hell? Who said that?" He asked, looking around one more time.
This time he was certain the voice wasn't in his head and it was close by as well and it sounded nothing like the feminine one he heard earlier.
Just then he saw a squirrel quickly jump down from a nearby tree and hop onto his shoulders, saying, "She's asking you to meet her there because it's the safest place she knows thus far."
"It should have been a direct approach but since you made things easier by coming to this secluded place, she decided to reach out as soon as possible even though it came out as a bit sudden."
"I want names right now." She mumbled, slowly turning a stern gaze toward the squirrel.
"Her name is Karen Fujiboma, the female heir of the branch household, and your distant cousin. She's looking for her brother Ren Fujiboma, and is hoping you can have your sister help her find him."
"You do talk too much." He mumbled walking away, but the rodent still remained on his shoulder even after he had walked many meters. "Isn't it about time you got off my shoulders?"
Even after saying that, it simply ignored him looking down on the ground as it desperately numbed on the nut in its hand. It seemed quite hungry and perhaps may not have heard him clearly.
He soon went past the Nishizuki household where his sister and Yuki currently resided and continued forward to the east of the city. It was an arduous walk that took him over, but he arrived there soon enough regardless.
But still, he knew how stupid it was of him to come here alone without at least telling his sister of it but he wasn't here to talk in the slightest. At least an introduction would suffice, and what would any kid want in a red-light district?
He knew that there was no member of the Boma clan's current generation was over the age of twelve and his sister was the eldest of all the girls. So whoever it was should be two years older than him at most.
Well, it would seem that they are quite smart if they were able to keep a profile here of all places and still live through it. Even he couldn't help keeping all things that could possibly go wrong out of his mind.
"Well then, it seems we're here." The squirrel said, jumping off his shoulder and onto the roof of the building. "Just wait here, I'll go tell her you've arrived."
He stood right where he was as he had been instructed, hearing well all the chatter that was going on inside the place. There were few people around as well; no one would want to be around this kind of noise.
Soon, the door into the brothel was opened wide and a maid slowly walked out bowing before him as she pointed towards the door. She showed him the way in and to her mistress.
Karin was standing just above the stage of the performance being put on upstairs with her eyes glued on the crowd of people. He had seen her before walking to where she was.
"Ahh, I didn't expect you to come here all by yourself given how weary you must have been of me." She said, slowly turning towards him, "but I guess I should really introduce myself better."
"I'm Karin Fujiboma, daughter to Ken Fujiboma, and heir to the Kirasaki hotel resort." She added, slowly offering her hand for a shake.
"Kirasaki?" He asked, slowly reaching out his hand as well.
"It's the household from which my mother was raised. Quite wealthy, but not as prominent as the Boma's."
"Oh... Well I'm Megumi Fujiboma. Pleased to meet you." He said, taking her hand.
"That Enma, he's quite cunning isn't he, and now he wants to use weapons a man created against said man. I know we should find a better place to talk about this, but I should have you know that at the moment you're nothing but a target for the celestial beings being worshipped here."
