Chapter 101 - Chapter 101 - A Man with History

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Michael threw the now deformed steel pipe on the ground while leaning on a lamp post in the parking lot, slightly tired from the ordeal he'd just been through.

He looked at the floating reminder at the corner of his eyesight and swiped it away.

'Fighting with a broken hammer handle and a small steel pipe is such a hassle.' Michael grumbled inside while looking at the piles of bodies scattered around him.

'Maybe I should've just picked that one instead of the sledgehammer.' He thought when he suddenly remembered that item, he got from killing that mutant walker the other day.

'But how come I didn't get anything when I killed that guy? Is it possibly a random chance?' He was a little confused that he didn't get anything from that Charging Walker, but then again, he was reminded of the well mutant they found before and that he also didn't get anything from it.

Michael walked away from the slain walkers and started looking around the parking lot for a suitable weapon for those remaining walkers inside the warehouse.

Walking to the left side of the large warehouse, Michael immediately saw a dense pile of rebars piled over on the wall of the building.

'Nice, just when I thought I needed to go back.' He thought as he quickly walked over to see if there's something that was already cut shorter, just enough for one hand to hold and swing around.

'No choice.'

Seeing that there's nothing of that specific among the pile, Michael just pulled one out of them and started bending it until the two sides were almost touching each other.

'That will do.'

Michael was about to untie one of the iron wires to use it on his newfound weapon when he suddenly spotted something sticking from the back of the pile.

Curious, he walked over and grabbed it. Only to discover that it was a red and rusting twenty-four-inch pipe wrench.

'It had seen better days.' He thought while looking at the rust that almost covered the entire equipment.

'Though this is an unexpected find.' Michael smiled while appreciating the new toy he found. 'You're going to accompany me to a lot of battles from now on buddy.'

Michael threw the bent rebar back onto the pile and made his way back to the door of the warehouse.

Graahh! Graaah!

Even after a lot of time has already passed, Michael can still hear the same intensity of the moans coming from inside the building.

He didn't immediately open the door and instead looked around him. He finally took notice of the slain bodies of walkers not far from him that might possibly hinder him. So, he started moving them away and onto the pile where the mutant walker had died.

He went back towards the door and grabbed the wrench pipe from where he left it.

Bam! Bam! Bam!

Michael smacked the door loudly three times. He wanted to make sure that every walker had made their way over towards his direction. He repeated those actions at least two more times more before he opened the door of despair.

Gruaaah!

Multiple walkers quickly spilled out of the door. The first ones that shortly stumbled out of the door fell before getting trampled by those behind them as they competed to be the first one to leave.

Michael quickly created a great distance between them and watched the chaos unfolding before him with amusement.

Thought amused, one lingering question always comes to his mind whenever he sees the walkers acting like this.

'How heck did the Army get defeated by these mindless fools?'

Michael just shook his head before he started making his move to eliminate them.

He started smashing walker heads with pipe wrench like it was some whack-a-mole, and unlike a mutant walker that keeps him on his toes. Dealing with an ordinary walker is almost as simple as a walk in a park, he just needs to make sure not to step on any shit. Though in his situation, avoid getting grabbed and bitten.

Wham! Bam!

He smashed and kicked to create space, but the more he killed, the more walkers would also walk out of the warehouse to replace the "dead".

It took a while before the last walker finally fell under his feet.

"Whew." Michael let out a breath and was just now noticing that he had travelled all the way back to where the Bloom truck is located, which is near the backend section of the large warehouse.

Michael did not say anything and just started swinging the pipe wrench in silence multiple times to get rid of the rotten blood and bits of pieces of flesh stuck on it.

To finish, he crouched down and wiped the pipe wrench off over the shirt of a slain walker near him.

Michael started walking back to the large warehouse while tiptoeing around the laid bodies on the ground, and while looking at them. He was suddenly struck with a thought.

'Hmm?' He paused in his tracks and looked at the clothes of the bodies near him before checking those far from him.

'I just noticed that a couple were wearing suits. There's also three women in their waitress uniform and with that kind of pants, this is maybe a fireman.' Standing over the supposed fireman, Michael started checking the bodies around him. Aside from those he mentioned, he also noticed that there were also several who seem to be workers of this place but also realized that there are more unrelated bodies on the ground.

Michael cautiously looked around him while thinking. 'They didn't stumble here randomly; someone purposely led them here and locked them up. So stupid of me, why am I just realizing this now?'

He stared dazed at a corner, deeply thinking about something.

'No freaking way.'

Michael recalled that when he was on the other side of the large warehouse and where he also found his pipe wrench. He remembered seeing a forklift that crashed onto a tree but paid it no heed earlier. When he thought about it now, he realized that there might be a story on it that's related to the strange circumstance of the slain walkers around him.

Abandoning the original plan, Michael hastily made his way to the back of the large warehouse and finally laid his eyes on the answer to his questions.

'So that's why.' Michael repeatedly nodded his head in brief motions and couldn't help but also applaud the courage of whoever was behind that hole.

He walked over towards the forklift and immediately spotted a corpse eaten beyond recognition on the seat.

But based on its remaining arm, it's a human male.

'I don't know the reason behind why you did this, but you have my utter respect for it.'

Michael offered a short prayer for the departed before making his way inside the warehouse through the hole on the wall.

"What the…a water wheel here of all places?"
