Jules gasped softly, instinctively clutching his shoulder.
Lucas turned and walked away, carrying her as if there were no one else in the world.
Maya stood frozen.
So did Nick.
The sight was unbearable to both of them. Only now did Maya truly realize something she had refused to admit before. No matter how handsome or charming Nick was, he was nothing compared to Lucas.
Not in the presence. Not in strength. Not in the way he protected the woman he loved.
Maya clenched her fists.
'I need to change my plan,' she thought darkly.
She glanced at Nick and spoke softly, "What do we do now?"
Nick's expression hardened.
"Since she doesn't want to play nice," he said coldly, "then we change the script entirely."
When Jules and Lucas arrived at Lucas's apartment, the moment the door closed behind them, Jules wrapped her arms around him tightly.
"I really don't understand," she murmured. "Why is he still pestering me?"
Lucas stroked her hair gently.
