This commission was still hanging here, not canceled. Perhaps the people who posted it were still holding on to a faint glimmer of hope...
Flipping through the comment section below, although there were many comments, the latest one was posted half a month ago. After that, there was only silence.
Was there really any need to accept a commission that seemed to have been abandoned by everyone?
Of course, there was.
Rita exited the commission's interface and showed the two of them the main commission selection screen.
Among the myriad of commissions, the vast majority were designated as D-class, the lowest level. However, these commissions were not the simple delivery tasks that Durandal had imagined.
In terms of difficulty, these D-class commissions were perhaps the most difficult ones.
[Liuyun City Missing Person: Chen Yungui, 14 years old, male, student haircut, wearing a light blue top, jeans, and glasses—life or death, a photo is sufficient.]
[Cenian City Missing Person: Fang Liu, 69 years old, female, sparse white hair, wearing a red and purple checkered top, uses a cane—life or death, a photo is sufficient.]
[Shangjing City Missing Person: Wang Jinzhong, 87 years old, male, wearing a gray shirt, black jacket, and a hat—life or death, a photo is sufficient (Completed).]
[...]
There were so many of these tasks... so many that it was dizzying.
But all these tasks were uniformly marked as the lowest D-class, a level that would be filtered out by a casual search... Only some commissions that were posted very recently were marked as B-class, or A-class, and other high levels.
If this wasn't the work of the Spark administrator... then these commissions probably carried a simple hope...
What if?
I survived... so what if?
Suddenly, Durandal felt a pang in her heart. Through the screen, she could imagine what those people looked like when they were writing and posting these commissions.
Careful, with a faint glimmer of hope, but not daring to think too much.
Durandal silently took the phone and clicked on the commission marked [Completed]. The first thing she saw was a large photo.
An old man was standing straight under a flagpole, looking up at the bright red flag fluttering in the sky.
The photo was taken from a great distance, and it was filled with a sense of farewell.
But when Durandal looked at where the completer's name should have been, she only saw a blank space.
What? Why isn't the completer's name marked?
Durandal's confusion lasted only a moment before it disappeared. She exited the interface, took a deep breath, and looked up at Rita.
"Rita, I've decided." Her eyes were firm and full of confidence.
"I'm going to take the commission for Xieyang Mountain," she said seriously. "At the very least, I need to find out where those people are!"
I have to tell the person who posted it... you really found them...
Rita smiled and gave Durandal a slight bow. "Rita will follow your instructions."
"Count me in! I want to go too!!" Li Sushang raised her hand and jumped up and down, afraid that the two would forget her. "I also agree to take this commission!"
Perhaps this was an act of extinguishing hope, but since they had insisted on keeping the mission posted under such conditions, maybe they had already accepted such an outcome.
The three of them hit it off immediately. After some simple preparations, they found the other members of the team.
Theresa, who had woken up and was about to go find Otto, finally realized what she had agreed to.
Well, well...
"Are you guys really going? I've heard about that place, it seems there are Honkai Beasts... Grandpa also said that he would send a few teams there to take another look in the next few days...
"But Grandpa's idea is to bring the people from nearby back to ARC City. They probably won't go deep into the scenic area to investigate..." Theresa was straightforward and directly stated Otto's intentions.
It had been over a month, and there were still Honkai Beasts and a large number of zombies and Deadwalkers in the scenic area. How could those people trapped in the scenic area have survived?
Going deep into the investigation would put the team in danger. There were hundreds of thousands of survivors in Sapphire City, and the situation was known and simple. It was also a coastal stronghold with great development and utilization value.
But Xieyang Mountain was just a scenic area. There were no mines or resources. It wasn't worth opening up a frontline like in Sapphire City.
Otto's next target was Jin Jiao City. Jin Jiao City had mines, arable land, and people. And Jin Jiao City and Sapphire City flanked ARC City, making them a perfect outpost and rearguard.
No matter how you looked at it, the Xieyang Mountain Scenic Area would not be the MOTH's first target to resolve.
"In that case, we should go even more," Durandal said very seriously. The fist she had unknowingly clenched already showed her determination.
Theresa was stunned for a moment, then smiled helplessly. "It's not that I'm not letting you go... but are you really not bringing any equipment? You two probably can't use Li Sushang's sword, right?"
Li Sushang nodded seriously. Theresa shrugged. "How about this... you go get your equipment, and I'll go talk to Grandpa. I'm sure he won't say anything."
Lord Overseer Otto definitely won't say anything, Rita thought. He might even be happy to see this scene.
"Thank you very much!" Durandal was pleasantly surprised. After thanking them repeatedly, she took Rita and Li Sushang to the eighth basement level to get her equipment.
Not long after, the three of them, armed with their weapons and equipment, used their access passes and left the base in a vehicle, under several surprised gazes.
"Are we really letting such a young child go out?" a person who had just registered as an explorer asked, staring at Li Sushang between Rita and Durandal.
"You must have just arrived here recently, right?" the guard at the gate chuckled. "That's Captain Azure Empyrea's grand-disciple. You should know, most of the members of those special squads can't beat that girl!"
"She's that strong?!" the newcomer exclaimed in shock.
"Of course. Which of the MOTH's members are simple?"
"Then, the three of them going out this time is..."
The guard looked down at the record on their registration form, pondered for a moment, and then looked up, their eyes filled with respect.
"They took the S-class mission for Xieyang Mountain... I thought that mission would be up there forever..."
"But on this trip... how many people will be disappointed?"
