The spears of light halted midair.
One by one, they reversed course, streaking back toward her. They circled her once, twice, humming softly, before merging back together. The fragments reassembled into their original broken wheel form, hovering briefly before sinking back into her grasp and fading.
Mia walked forward.
She stopped beside Kukulkan's body and gave it a small kick with her boot.
"Pathetic," she muttered.
The body rolled slightly, ending on its back, lifeless eyes staring at the sky.
Mia raised her hand again. Mana flowed, precise and cold. Kukulkan's staff lifted from the ground, followed by the storage ring on his finger. Both floated to her palm.
She glanced at the staff, turned it once, then tossed it aside without interest. It clattered uselessly against the stone.
Her focus shifted inward as she sent her awareness into the storage ring. A breath later, a scarlet gem with swirling golden patterns appeared in her hand.
The Jewel of Cizin.
