"I'm fine here," Luna Vilka told the soldiers with a reassuring smile, and they nodded, allowing her to carry on alone.
They would wait back at the entrance of the water cave while the Luna proceeded inside. The Alpha was there; they had tracked his scent to this location.
They knew how this was done. This was not the first time, and they knew it would not be the last. There were times when the Alpha turned aggressive, days when his emotions were volatile. On those days, only the Luna could talk to him. She was advised to go with soldiers for escort, but to approach alone, because the Alpha needed only one person to listen to: his mother.
As Vilka walked further into the cave, she could hear him clearly—snarling because he sensed the intrusion.
But she did not stop. The water cave had channels which helped the easy flow of moonlight, so there was no need for lamps. The moonlight, even though it was only a waxing crescent, and the bright, clear water served as sufficient light.
