The walk to Selene's room with Ralph was as silent as ever.
The only thing he gave to Selene was a firm nod before he then melted into the shadows of the hallway. Selene watched him go, a familiar weariness settling over her. She hadn't expected more from him. With Zeeb, perhaps a softening of his stern features, a quiet word – something to acknowledge her presence. But Ralph was not Zeeb, and soon, even those fleeting comparisons vanished as she was left alone once more in the too-familiar room.
The door was shut behind her by the guards as if to remind her once again of where she was. She walked gently and calmly towards her bed with her chin held high even though no one was around.
It was a way for her to encourage herself despite the sadness and anxiety that was starting to cloud her very mind.
Selene sank onto the bed, the mattress sighing under her weight, her mind a whirlwind of tormenting questions.
Why had nothing happened to her after she outside again?
