Chapter 13 - The Rite [III]

As agreed by the siblings, they decided to check the belongings of their Lolo Juan. Entering the bedroom of their Lolo Juan, they saw a lot of items that are clearly not just decorations.

"Wow, it looks like I was on a souvenir shop the moment I step into Lolo Juan's room. It is somehow a bit creepy especially those dream catchers hanging near his bed," Arcana said as she look around the place.

"It's natural, Lolo Juan is an Albularyo, these things in his bedroom must be something he is keeping to ensure his work is smoothly operational," Sancho said as he immediately checked the table with various bottles littered around.

There are many bottles filled with various liquids there. Some smelled funny while some were just the regular smell of ointments, which Sancho assumed to be what Lolo Juan uses to help those who are sick.

But those things are not the ones he is looking for.

"Oh, I knew these! I didn't expect Lolo Juan to have some of them!" Arcana exclaimed.

Sancho looks at Arcana, who is now holding a deck of cards in her hand.

"Cards?" Sancho approaches to look at it as well.

"These are not the same cards used for trading card games, Sancho. I think they call these tarot cards?"

Sancho knew about Tarot cards. He has seen various television shows, especially during the Halloween season, about people using these cards to tell their fate, fortune, and other aspects of things.

"I was hoping I could get one of these in the past; perhaps this is fate that I found it," Arcana smiled.

"You know how to use that for fate reading and stuff?" Sancho asked.

"Not really, but I know some stuff here and there. I can practice on it since I have always been curious about this. Aren't you also curious about your fate day by day?"

Sancho shook his head. "Not really. I always leave everything to fate. But you do you, tarot reading is fascinating on its own though."

Arcana decided to keep the tarot cards, and they continued searching the whole room. Soon, they came across a big chest underneath the bed. Moving the bed aside, the chest is seen in full view. It was old and kind of antique. Sancho tried to lift it and put it on the table, only to realize how heavy it was.

"Damn, that's heavy!" Sancho sat on his butt on the floor, gasping for air after trying to lift it. It was like he couldn't even raise it up off the floor.

"Well, we should just drag it out instead and open it in the open area," Arcana suggested.

"Good idea. But first, help me out on this. This is very heavy."

The two started to drag the chest out of the bed, and although it was very heavy, they managed to drag it away from its former location.

"Wow, what did Lolo Juan even put inside for this to be so heavy?! I have my fair share of heavy boxes before, but this is just too heavy!" Sancho wipes off the sweat on his forehead.

"Yeah, but at least we managed to drag it out of the bed. We should return the bed to its original position. Of course, we should recover our energy first. Let me grab some refreshments downstairs. You should figure out how to open that thing," Arcana said.

Sancho nodded and started checking over the chest. The chest has no physical lock that can be seen. One could just open it, but when he tried to open it up, the chest refused to budge. It was like something was locking it.

That's when someone whispered to him. "Open your third eye."

Sancho just remembered he didn't have his spiritual sight open at the moment, since he wanted to check the surroundings without seeing anything that would hinder his search. But it was actually a foolish move on his part, considering that Lolo Juan deals with ghosts, there is a chance he is using something that can only be seen with the third eye.

Reopening his third eye, the chest changed to a different form. The chest turned into something that looks like a box made of bones. And the reason why he can't open it, was because of the bone clamp and lock present on it that is not present when third eye is not open. It honestly looked ominous.

Just as he was about to open the chest, he looked around the surroundings as he just remembered about the voice that told him about the secret of the chest. As soon as he look around, he saw a white glow in the corner. It looks like a firefly but there is no firefly with a ver bright golden color. And it wouldn't be that big either considering fireflies are tiny. This one is like a small lightbulb, only that it floats.

"W-wait! Don't be afraid, alright? I do not mean any harm!"

"Holy crap! It talks!" Sancho stood up and approaches the little glowing light. At this point, he was not afraid of this ball of light now.

"Hey! Of course I talk! What do you think us Lambanas are?! Glowing balls of light?!"

"Honestly speaking? Yes. Your glowing very bright that you looked like a floating light bulb in my eyes."

"W-what? I glow that much?!"

Realizing this, the glowing ball of light slowly dimmed but not completely turning the light off, only enough to emphasize what the ball of light is.

With her light dimming down, the real identity of the small light appears like a little humanoid that has a pair of wings. Her clothes look like those dresses used in fantasy stories. And if it is in human terms, it looks expensive and only worn during balls, important gatherings and parties.

A fairy. And based on what she calls herself, she is a fairy known as Lambanas.

"Wait, a lambana...aren't they those little fairies present in some scenes of that famous television series that involves the fairies like you?"

"Why are you comparing me to those on the tv? They are clearly human actors! I am the real deal lambana and not those costumed people who only acts like they are lambanas!"

Sancho scratches his head and looked at this little fairy before him. It is clear it was not a hostile entity, meaning it wasn't there to cause chaos.

"So...what are you doing here? Aren't lambanas supposed to be assistants of a Diwata?" Sancho asked.

"Yep. We do work as assistants by various Diwatas. But not always we work as assistants as various Lambanas like me have various work and being assistants is just one of our works!" the Lambana before Sancho looks proud of herself.

"Yeah, yeah, I know that much considering I have seen a few episodes of that television series. But what are you doing here? It is clear there are no Diwata present here, so why are you here?"

"Oh, that's right! I almost forgot about this but I am here to become the new assistant that would help you awaken your power as an Albularyo! I heard your goal is to find the items your Lolo left behind right? That's where I come in!"

"Wait, don't tell me, Lolo Juan has a contract that works with you?" Sancho guessed.

"Haha, no. I am here under the orders of my king to aid you in your task to fight and take the mantle that your grandfather left behind."

"King?! Wait, I don't remember even coming in contact with a fairy king or something."

"Wow, I guess humans does not really appreciate those what they see most of the time. But seriously, how can you not recognize the magnficent aura of our King, King Zandro? He even left you with the necklace that signifies that you are one of the people he allowed to visit the kingdom."

Sancho couldn't believe his ears on what he is hearing. Not only that, Zandro was actually a king? An engkantado king?

"Anyways, you needed to open that chest soon. I can sense quite great energy inside. Perhaps you have to do the Rite soon."

Sancho is now so confused oh what is going on, however, but she is correct. He check the bone padlock on the chest and realized that it wasn't totally locked. The lock was just there to close the clamp and prevent the chest to open.

Removing it, he then slowly opened the chest and Sancho was not expecting the contents inside the chest. And for once, he is starting to question what has he has gotten involved into.
