Chapter 33 - A Debt Worth Erasing

Astraea's POV

I was already halfway through the hallway when I saw her.

Zephyra.

Wandering around like she had nothing better to do. Her bare feet padded softly against the floor, her hands lightly brushing the walls like she was trying to memorize them.

There was something oddly peaceful about the way she moved—slow, curious, and soft. As if she wasn't the same girl who'd been screaming bloody murder just yesterday.

I blinked in surprise.

"Zephyra?" I called out before I could stop myself.

She turned toward the sound of her name, her eyes locking with mine, and then she smiled.

It wasn't just any smile. It was wide and full of light, the kind of smile that made people stop in their tracks and forget what they were doing, and for some reason, it hit me right in the chest. That same annoying pinch of pain I'd felt the very first time I saw her.

What the hell was that?
