Chapter 71 - 71. Hunting

Chapter 71

Have I already said that being a vampire is nice? No? Well then I'll say it now. After all, how nice it is when you can break the neck of a huge hybrid of a polar bear and a dog with one movement, and in addition to everything, have seemingly inexhaustible stamina, and in this world, where the only downside of being a vampire is not the inability to eat normal food, you can live happily ever after.

 - However, even so, I would not abandon Integra for this world. - I sighed a little sadly, not knowing when I would finally have the opportunity to return home, and these periodic attacks of pain are also annoying.

"However, I think this meat should last a long time," I muttered, looking at the whole mountain of corpses, each of which was tied with rope so that I could easily drag them, but I still didn't want to reveal the presence of inventory too early.

 - Is there really any point in this? It doesn't matter, the main thing is that it will be funny to look at their faces when they realize how physically strong I am. - Having said this, I grabbed a whole bunch of ropes that lead to a mountain of corpses and calmly moved in the direction of the village. According to my calculations, I spent almost a day hunting, because I did not dare to use teleportation again. And also, in addition to the very first victim, I chose game as far away from the village as possible. So that when they ran out of provisions, they would still have something to hunt.

 - The main thing is that no one wonders where I got so many ropes from.

 3 hours later.

The inhabitants of the only settlement at the South Pole, who ran out to the noise raised by the children, were met with an extremely surprising sight.

Not only were they lucky enough to see a real cat-girl, whose tail happily wagged to match the song she was singing, but she was also pulling so many animal carcasses that, if stored properly, this would be enough for the village to live comfortably for several years, considering how few people there were in the village. However, given how low the temperature is at the South Pole, this certainly won't be a problem.

 - Hey, I brought food! - I waved my hand happily, already anticipating how I would eat meat for the first time in such a long time.

"Who the hell is she?" I heard Sokka's quiet voice, who was gaping at me with his mouth open next to the others.

"Stop, there are not only villagers here," I thought, seeing one very prominent bald guy among this whole crowd.

 - Looks like they found an avatar while I was gone, funny. - I grinned, quickening my pace.

It's strange, when I approached almost right up to the crowd there were no joyful cries, but instead I was met with tense silence. It seems they were afraid of me? However, not everyone was.

 - Wow. You're so strong! Are you a cat spirit? - a bald boy jumped up to me, circling around.

"You could say that," I answered vaguely, but if you think about it, Schrödinger's cat really was more like a spirit, and now I have all his abilities.

 - And you ava... - before I could finish speaking, the boy suddenly pressed his palms to my mouth, making a pleading expression on his face and whispered.

 - Don't give it away.

To which I only raised an eyebrow and looked at him skeptically, but nevertheless nodded.

 - I didn't expect to see the last air mage at the South Pole. My name is Victory Seras, let's get acquainted.

 - And I'm Aang. Do you want to go dolphin riding together?!

"I'd rather eat meat instead," I chuckled, and ignoring the slightly hidden face of the vegetarian, I looked at the villagers, who seemed to have calmed down a little, having seen my interaction with Aang.

 - What were you whispering about?! Huh? - Sokka said aggressively, stepping forward, before he got a slap on the back of the head from Katara.

 - Shut up Sokka. - Having said this, she came up to me and bowed.

 - Thank you for getting the food. It really means a lot to us.

 - Everything is fine, the main thing is to cook me some delicious fried meat and then we'll settle the score.

 - Of course! - the girl immediately answered happily and after that the atmosphere changed dramatically, the adults, who consisted only of girls, were not so wary, and the children enthusiastically ran up to me.

 - Auntie cat, how did you become so strong?!

 - Auntie cat, can I touch your tail?!

 - You can't touch the tail! - I immediately jumped back , noticing how the boy had already started to reach his hand towards it.

 - But why? - the children were upset.

"Hey, what if they're spies for the Fire Nation?!" Sokka tried to interject, but no one was listening.

 - Well, you see, my tail... - How can I explain to them that my tail is a rather sensitive place for me.

 - Calm down, children, there is no need to pester our guest, - the old woman who was feeding me when I woke up intervened.

 - Yes, Great-great. - the children answered in chorus and switched to another target, the avatar, who would be happy to play with them.

 - Last time we didn't have time to get to know each other properly before you ran off to hunt. You can call me Great-great. - the old woman, who looked to be over 100, addressed me.

"In that case, just call me Seras," I nodded.

 - Please help us carry the carcasses to the village. Unfortunately, apart from Soki and a couple of children, we have no men left in the village.

 - Oh, that's a problem. - I thought for a moment. I had hoped that I would simply get the meat and have it cooked for me, but looking at these people, they really wouldn't be able to butcher all these carcasses themselves, and something tells me that they haven't seen meat for much longer than me.

 - Okay, I'll help you cut up this meat. - I sighed and grabbed the ropes and pulled the carcasses to the village.

 - By the way, how do you make a fire? - I asked curiously, after all, I hadn't seen a single tree for many kilometers from the village all day.

"We use seal fat and bones for this ," the old woman answered me.

"Oh, that makes sense," I nodded, accepting this answer.

 - So, it turns out that meat is not really a rarity for you? - I asked curiously.

 - No, - the old woman shook her head. - Despite their appearance, seals are extremely dangerous. Just one bite can lead to death from infection, so since the day men left the South Pole, we have had to make do with fish and only in very rare cases do we risk hunting them.

 - So that's how it is. You have it hard.

"We're already used to it, " the woman walking next to us answered, having gathered her courage.

 - Well, I won't promise much, but at least for a while you won't have to worry about the lack of provisions. - I chuckled before starting to easily rip the skin off the first carcass I came across with my bare hands thanks to my claws, which caused one of the girls standing nearby to faint, and the rest to turn slightly pale, apparently imagining how easily I could rip the skin off a person.

"You really aren't human," the old woman sighed.

 - Of course, I already said that, didn't I?
