"Stop the carriage!" Mrs. Finch lunged for the door handle, but Isolde was already moving, her fingers wrapping around the latch. The carriage jerked to a halt, the driver's panicked shout echoing through the air. Isolde pushed the door open, the cold air rushing in as she climbed down. Mrs. Finch followed immediately, her hand reaching for Isolde's sleeve.
"My lady, no!" But Isolde was already moving, her boots crunching through the snow toward where Elias was helping a young woman to her feet.
"Elias!" She shouted his name, Mrs. Finch hung on her arm the man froze for a fraction of a second, then turned.
