Chapter 164 - A World to Cleanse

Corruption had seeped into the crevices and cracks of the road as the plants slowly withered and died. The insidious infection of chaos punctured the soil like a parasite, its tendrils trying to burrow deeper into the environment of Gotham. At the same time the miasma of chaos attempted to desecrate the very air that people breathed. It was a blight, plain and simple.

Standing there, watching as this process began, Yuna furrowed her brow whilst feeling the magic and power thrumming below her hands. In the past she had been incapable of helping herself let alone other people. No one had tried to help her back then either, another knife in the coffin of attempting to help people. This time it was different. The Earth was the home of humanity, her home... And also the world that fed, sheltered and aided her quest for power. She couldn't afford to lose Earth.

"Let's see if I can get rid of this vile shit, shall we?" She clapped her hands and then slowly pushed them out. Like Jesus upon the cross she began floating upwards as the entire sky started rumbling and growing darker. Rain drops slowly descended onto her pale face as her horns slowly began glowing with the amount of power cascading through her veins.

One breath followed the other, deeper, harsher. Her lungs expanded behind her ribs with an immense tensing of abdominal muscle. Sunlight filtered down from the sky, twinkling off hundreds of thousands of glass shards that created a chaotic mosaic of colour and destruction.

Reaching several hundreds of metres in the air her breath left her lungs in a violent exhale that cause frost to swarm into her environs. Air froze and dropped in teardrops upon the pavement, bitumen and stones below. Shattered ice particles scattered softly and began melting, releasing the formerly trapped gasses. It was amidst this spectacle that her lungs filled once more... But instead of oxygen, it was filled with the murky haze of corruption that had infiltrated the atmosphere. Pollution, corruption and toxicity all sloshing around in her lungs as her powers, fuelled by numerous scanned genetic materials, slowly processed and 'exhaled' the purified left overs.

Pollution turned into various vitamins and enzymes within her body. Corruption was scrubbed of its tainted nothingness, turning a smoky white-gold that billowed out of her mouth as if it were merely mist and not the pure expression of purity. Toxins within the breath were expunged and funnelled through the wave of purity, the biological material carried away by the winds to re-join the Earth's natural balance.

This process increased in potency as she continued, the small puffs of purity turning into a great tidal wave of smoke-like gas. Each breath lasted two seconds before it was expunged once more and she continued the cycle anew. The tendrils shrivelled this time, the power imbued into them turning into pure mana that softly cradled the plants that had previously withered... They burst into growth and bloom once more before the wave of purity hit them and enhanced their growth one-hundred fold.

Whatever remained of the taint upon this place was erased. The usual smog of exhaust-fumes and detrimental toxins for several hundred kilometres around the scene was expunged and purged with extreme prejudice, the city clearing of doom and gloom for the first time in almost two-hundred years.

"Woo, what a rush..." Yuna murmured as she looked down, turning off the majority of her powers for now. Lethargy naturally came with the depowering but that was quickly stymied by the radiance of the sun; Kryptonian genetics doing their thing and all.

...

At the same time in a certain prison cell at Arkham Asylum, a woman shuddered and moaned as the Earth around her vibrated.

The planet was crying out in happiness, in ecstasy, as someone had just cleaned a large stain within the city. The woman could smell the chrysanthemum flowers of this new space clearly. She could breathe the air with a smoothness that was lacking before. The one she had sensed before had done something within Gotham. She knew this for a fact.

Whilst rapturous in a way she had not experienced since her own major venture towards cleansing the world of humanity's taint, it was only temporary... This, person, who had washed away the dirt upon a large segment of the city needed to continue. They needed to be informed of the mission before them... Indeed, 'them', since she had no intention of not aiding in this massive venture.

"It's time to leave this cage, I think." Her hand twisted inside of a hanging vine as her voice echoed off of the dreary grey walls.

A tearing noise ripped through the entire prison as her prison's wall was eroded to dust. In place of the concrete wall was a thick green tangle of vines that slowly recoiled. In moments the vines created an opening for her to step out and a long staircase that lead from the top floor all the way to the ground.

"Thank you my lovelies..." Many of the plants swayed in place for a moment in acknowledgement of her thanks before going back to their work.

A cheshire grin slid onto her green-skinned face as her luscious red lips pressed together. "I'm going to like the changes that this friend makes." A chuckled escaped her as she haughtily walked down the stairs, her vines tearing apart a large portion of the prison behind her, letting the Meta-human prisoners out of their dampened hells.

...

All across the United States people were abuzz in new gossip and speculation.

In the heart of New York many people could be seen gathered in Times Square watching the showdown between two powered people in the disgrace of a city, Gotham. Gasps and cajoles spread unaided through the din of people, their eyes glued to the flashes of light and explosions of power that destroyed the windows of hundreds of buildings.

Many people of varying professions discussed the ramifications as it pertained to their jobs. Doctors discussed the injuries that could occur due to the glass shards raining down on people, while also talking about the damage the villain, Joker, had sustained. Builders were murmuring about the amount of work required to repair all of those buildings and roads, some pondering upon the idea of temporarily working in Gotham to pick up on the boom of work. Police officers, having recently picked up their donuts, had small disgruntled arguments between one another at the fact that civilians were so evidently in the firing line of this confrontation. Many, many, people added their two cents... Good or bad...

Most, if you were to be there in person, sided with the horned-lady's actions as she had protected a family with her powers. Sprinkled amongst the spectacle and wonder was a seed of fear and respect. If she could shred the windows of buildings with just her punch than what could she do with her full power, The Power that she used in the end to kill the psychopath...?

Nightmares and dreams were abundant within the realm of Morpheus that night. How was a human meant to comprehend the powers of gods? For what can you call someone who can fly, shoot lasers from their eyes, breathe frost and summon lightning, fire and wind with a gesture, other than a god?

...

(Freya's POV)

Sitting within my office I watched as Yuna pulled a Kano, pulling the heart from Joker's chest. I almost squealed at how cool she looked. She looked like a dragon goddess mixed with a Kryptonian and an Asgardian... Her power was creating an umbra of force around her that screamed potency and to be honest the wings of wind were sick as fuck.

I sighed in mild sorrow as I realised the buzz i got from her combat was never going to be answered at this current moment. I had too much paper work to fill out, even if she were going straight to our apartment. A movement below me broke my thoughts as I squeezed by hand down on the sword of light in my hand, sending another pulse of magic into the demon below, keeping him incapacitated and unconscious.

Mephisto was such a bastard... I mean, I killed an aspect of him within this universe, shredding it so it could never manifest here again without directly contesting me... But seriously, sending weak greater demons after me in the hopes that I would just suddenly keel over and die? His image was becoming pathetic at this stage and only worsened each time he sent out his 'assassins'.

'The League of Assassins would be more effective and their totally fucking mortal!' I growled a little as the news reporter on my phone started saying negative things about my Yuna.

I could stop the press from being assholes but then people would start asking awkward questions... Like: 'If she has the power to silence the media, couldn't she silence governments?' or, 'Why does she need to quiet the media, does she have something to hide?'

Both times the answer would be yes, but it didn't make the questions less awkward or complicated. I'll let them get away with it for now, but I was definitely going to support my wife when I get back home.

Just as I was nodding to myself, pumping another micro-dose of magic into the demon, the door to my office opened. Stepping in was none other than Niccolo who simply raised an eyebrow at the presence of the demon.

"Am I interrupting...?" I shook my head at his question, pulling my sword out of the demon's spinal cord before beheading him and sending his ashes floating upon the wind; right out of my office window.

"Nope. What yah got for me?"

He strode up to the desk and dropped two sheets of paper, a pen rolling alongside the paperwork.

"Those two request forms are needing to be signed immediately and pertain to Magneto's new initiative."

"Done and done, I've seen all this before, he was quite prepared for it all." I signed easily and slumped back in my chair, looking out the window at Freyavellir. It was soon to open and would be run, temporarily, by Artoria who was wishing to use some of the magical artefacts within the castle to anchor Avalon and the fae world back to Earth.

"Besides these papers I wished to discuss the matter of the Hand..." His hands straightened his brand new Italian suit whilst stepping forwards.

"What about them?"

He quietly sat down opposite me.

"They are getting more active, as you have no doubt noticed, and there seem to be rumblings from Japan."

I sighed in frustration. I hated demons now and these little fucking emo-gremlins just wouldn't stop summoning the little blighters.

"Put together a task force. Magical, Mutant, Inhuman, whatever... Just make sure they can kill demons and can easily be dispatched across the planet."

He nodded whilst summoning a coffee from seemingly nowhere.

"Easily done. As for the organisation itself?"

I grimaced and slouched in my chair.

"Treat them like Hydra, just worse."

A grin slid onto his face and he quickly stood, his drink grasped tightly in hand.

"It will be done."

I nodded and waved him off as an assistant walked in with more paperwork for me to sign off on. Hopefully this would be the last batch for today and I could get to training Harry and Hermione again.
