Kae's POV:
I remained silent, unsure of what to say. He leaned in, and my cheeks flushed.
"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked.
"I…I…" I stuttered.
I watched him pull back, disappointed that he would leave.
"Yes," I said, finally finding my voice. His eyes softened at me. His gaze held a mixture of surprise and concern for me.
"I shouldn't be doing this," he said. Was he rejecting me? But I wanted this.
"Your first time shouldn't be like this. Not with me," he added, staring into my eyes.
I didn't want him to stop now. I hated the pity in his voice and was going to show him I could handle it.
He started to move off me and I stopped him, grabbing his wrist.
"Please, don't stop," I whispered.
My hand slowly moved up his arm, gently teasing his skin with my palm. I reached for his face, caressing and pulling him closer. His eyes trailed my touch and I knew he was needy just as I was.
"I want this. Please," I begged.
He searched my face, and I nodded slowly giving him permission. His eyes lit up and with a low growl, he pulled me closer and kissed my lips.
My hands wrapped around his neck welcoming his kiss as we got lost in a sea of passion. I moaned into his mouth as his hands roamed my body, setting my skin ablaze with desire.
It was suffocating yet satisfying, and when he claimed me, I was over the moon. Our bodies moved together, and for the first time in a long time, I was alive and doing something I wanted.
We passed out on the bed, exhausted, and I fell asleep in his arms. When I woke up a few hours later, he was still sleeping. I checked my phone to see it was past 4am.
Carefully I slipped out of bed, trying my best not to wake him and wore my dress. I held my heels in my hand and tiptoed to the door.
I felt a little sore between my legs but it was a good kind of sore. I turned my gaze to see him still asleep. He was gorgeous in his sleep, and I was tempted to kiss his lips.
"Snap out of it," my mind warned and I focused on softly opening the door. The first second of pulling was dreadful as it creaked, making me turn to check on him again.
I let my breath out when he didn't move and returned to open the door. I slipped out of the room, gently closing the door behind me, and rushed out of the club like wolves were chasing me.
My hair was a mess when I got back to my apartment, but I couldn't help but feel a little giddy. I smiled at my reflection in the mirror, feeling satisfied with my naughty rendezvous.
Giggling uncontrollably, I fell on my bed, scattering my sheets by moving around. "What have I done?" I gasped.
"I just had sex with a stranger."
"He was handsome and gentle…and, it was the freaking best night of my life!" I yelled, giggling like a child.
"Will I see him again?" I asked myself. "Do I want to?"
******
"Uhhh," I yawned softly as the sunlight streamed through my window, shining on my face. I stretched like a cat and immediately curled back my legs together as the soreness hit me. I was feeling a little stiff from last night.
"Ow," I groaned and sat up smiling. The day couldn't be any brighter until reality came crashing right back at me. I was still jobless and facing eviction.
My face fell on my hands as I complained, "Oh no, I totally forgot about that."
I sighed, took a deep breath and let it out. I rose from my bed and my phone rang. I reached for it, searching the screen to see an unknown number.
I picked it up, hoping it was some telemarketer or any company I had applied to some days ago calling to schedule an interview but I was disappointed.
"Hello, Kae," Axel's voice spoke from the mouthpiece.
"Baby, c…" I hung up on him before he could say anything else. I wasn't interested in listening to his lies. I wasn't going to talk to him after everything he had put me through.
I blocked the number to avoid more calls and opened my laptop to start my daily job search routine.
I kept scrolling job ads on the Internet and another came in.
"Ugh, how what?" I groaned and reached for my phone. It was Diane. What did she want? I stared at the screen in shock, hesitating for a few seconds before sliding the answer button.
"Hey, can we talk?" She asked. I nearly puked at the sound of her voice. I used to think it was cute and filled with sweetness. I never knew the pretense behind it.
"What do you want?" I asked firmly. I wasn't having any of her nonsense.
"I'm sorry," she said.
I calmly exhaled and answered. "Okay, bye."
"Wait! Don't hang up!" She begged.
"I am sorry for breaking your trust. I know I am your best friend and I shouldn't have done that," Diane explained.
"Was. Past tense," I corrected.
"Don't say that," she chimed. "Look, I couldn't refuse him. He wouldn't have cheated if you had let him…you know."
I rolled my eyes, feeling disgusted. I wondered where she picked the audacity to gaslight me for his cheating.
"Perfect. Your excuse is telling me that I'm somehow responsible for his cheating," I said with sarcasm.
"Don't be shy, dramatic, Kae. I'm just trying to explain…" she preached before I interrupted.
"Save it. I don't need your explanations, Diane. You can keep your excuses to yourself. Have a nice life!"
I hung up and blocked Diane's number. I was so done with both their drama and manipulation.
I exhaled once more and turned my attention to my job search scrolling through the listings online. And that's when I noticed the ad for a live-in maid at Kaidën Vex's estate.
"Who's that?" I murmured and clicked on the advertisement. It opened to a full screen and I began to read the instructions. The pay was mouthwatering at a staggering two thousand dollars a month.
"Whoa," I muttered and quickly applied for the job. I crossed my fingers and waited.
It wasn't long before my laptop beeped with a notification. I had received an email from Kaidën Mansion in barely five minutes.
"Oh my God!" I gasped. "This is real. It's real. It's not a scam."
I screamed for joy and prayed silently before reading the email.
"Dear Kalliope Blackwood, you have been selected for an assessment for the live-in maid position at Kaidën Mansion. The address will be attached below. Endure you arrive for your assessment tomorrow at 10am sharp. Your lateness will result in an immediate withdrawal from the application. The dress code is formal. We look forward to meeting you."
I scrolled down reading the address. "Crescent Peak, estate."
"Oh my gosh! That's the wealthiest estate in the city!" I gushed happily.
"Am I getting lucky or what?"
