It was Chelsy's first day as an intern at Rivers Holdings. She met all sorts of characters 2in just one day.
Nicole, was already proving to be a thorn in her flesh by treating her poorly and asking her to move to a smaller desk meant for the storage of documents.
Erica opted to help her clear the table, and they both went ahead.
There was already a rumor in the whole office building that a new intern had arrived, and she was more beautiful than the self-proclaimed beautiful Nicole Brown.
Everyone was looking forward to meeting Chelsy. It was already time for lunch, and Erica asked Chelsy if they could both go to the staff canteen together.
''Hey Miss Powers. It is lunchtime already. Won't you go out for lunch?''
Chelsy had been so caught up with her task that she didn't even notice the time. Since Chelsy didn't have breakfast before leaving her house, she was starving. She closed her computer and said, '' Please, Miss Langley. You can just call me Chelsy. And yes, I am starving. Please lead the way.''
Erica smiled and responded. ''Since you want me to call you Chelsy, you can call me Erica. Just Erica.''
Chelsy nodded with a smile.
As they were about to leave, Nicole, cat walked up to Chelsy and said in a cold and demeaning tone. ''Hey you intern. I want you to take this money, and rush to the coffee shop down the street and get me a latte, no sugar. And you better hurry up.''
Chelsy was shaken, and looked at Nicole as if she was a clown. Chelsy had promised herself never to be treated like trash ever again. She would never let anyone disrespect her or bully her in any way.
Chelsy slowly walked up to Nicole with a dangerous smile and said, ''Miss Brown, I will say this once and once only. Being an errand girl isn't part of my job description. If it has anything to do with office related work, I will gladly do it. But when it comes to your personal needs, you should never try that again. The next time you walk up to me and spew such nonsense again, I will make sure you never use that mouth of yours ever again. I am not some ragdoll, you will just walk over or one of those weaklings you will bully just because you have worked here longer. You are not my boss nor my employer. By the way, it is not in my job description to buy you coffee. I am not on your team, and you are not my team leader either.''
She gave a stern look at Nicole and turned back to Erica. ''Miss Erica, please, whenever you are ready, let us go.''
Erica, who had been stunned to see someone stand up to Nicole, gave a clap, and her eyes glittered with pride. ''Chelsy, you are so cool.''
She turned to Nicole, who was shocked with her hand on her chest. ''Nicole, I guess you have finally met your match.''
She gave a cackle and held Chelsy's hand. ''Let's go eat, Miss Powers.''
Nicole's face was red with rage as she watched them leave. She clenched her fists and said, ''I will make sure you regret this. Loser."
Back in the canteen, news had already flown out, about how the arrogant Nicole Brown of the public relations department had been challenged by a newbie.
When Chelsy and Erica walked into the staff canteen, it seemed as if every eye was on her. The people already seated there looked at her and murmured among themselves.
Some two guys from the tech department murmured to each other. ''She is even more beautiful in person. Look at those curves in that dress. Jeez.'' The two men were openly drooling over her.
Chelsy could not stand the attention on her. ''Erica, is it just me, or is everyone staring at us? Can we please take our food to a less concentrated place? It seemed as if everyone was looking and talking about us.''
Erica gave a laugh and said, ''Chelsy, it is common culture for people to look at a beautiful lady. Pay no attention to them and let's just eat and leave.''
The two of them walked to a table close to the wall and sat down.
Chelsy had her lunch and went back to their office. It was finally the end of day one for Chelsy. She cleared her table and went back home.
It had been over two weeks since Chelsy started working at Rivers Holdings. After her encounter with Nicole, Nicole had avoided her like a plague and was plotting with her cohorts on her team to deal with Chelsy.
Erica and Cleopatra were talking about the young handsome CEO returning from his business trip. The CEO was kind and polite, but he didn't fraternize with his employees to maintain that respect for boss and employee integrity.
The young women in the office, especially Nicole, did everything to capture his attention, but he spared them no glance.
Chelsy was not the type to entertain gossip. She focused on her work and paid no attention to whatever was going on in the office.
''Hey Cleopatra, do you know our boss will be returning today? And the sweet part is, he will be coming over to our department for the quarterly rounds.'' Erica spoke with her eyes glittering with excitement.
''I can't even wait just to have a glance at his cute face. Although his girlfriend is an international model, I will still want to be his woman, even if it is only for a day. I heard his cousin is actually more handsome than he is. He is compared to Adonis, the Greek god of beauty and desire. Chelsy, do you know he is the most wanted billionaire in the United Kingdom? And to top it all, he is the famous Hank Fitzwilliam. It is rumored that he is gay and doesn't like showing his face in public. What a shame to waste such a handsome face and not show it off to people.'' Cleopatra retorted.
The CEO of Rivers Holdings, did a tour of all the departments every quarter of the year. Today was the day he had to visit all five departments.
The ladies had dressed in their best attires to seek his attention. Chelsy sat down, not caring in the world what the two ladies were gossiping about.
''Chelsy, didn't you hear what we said?'' Erica asked. Chelsy raised her head from her desk and said, ''Erica, it is none of my business who our CEO is dating or what he does in his private time or who his famous cousin is. We just need to respect his privacy, okay? Besides, I still have to complete the task you assigned to me.'' Chelsy spoke and gave a little wink to Erica.
''You are so boring to gossip with.'' Cleopatra said with a playful frown.
As they sat down carrying out their tasks for the day, a member from team A rushed in, ''Hey guys, the CEO together with his board of directors are here already.''
Nicole, who had been looking at her pocket mirror from time to time, applied more lipstick and stood up when the CEO entered.
Daniel, Hank's cousin, also known as Daniel Rivers in the business world, was the CEO of Rivers Holdings.
When Nicole saw Daniel, she cat walked towards him and spoke with a seductive voice while batting her eyes. ''Welcome Mister Rivers. It is such a delight having you here today.''
Daniel said thank you and didn't even spare her a glance. Nicole felt as though the earth should open up and just swallow her up. She was so embarrassed.
Cleopatra gave a slight laughter and muttered in a mocking tone. ''That serves you right, Miss, know it all.''
When Daniel saw Chelsy, his eyes were wide with shock, and he couldn't help but stare. He walked up to her with a smile. ''It is the beautiful kind lady from the mall, right?''
When Chelsy saw him, she smiled back and responded, ''It is you. What are you doing here? Do you work here too?''
When Daniel heard this, he gave a little chuckle and just smiled. Kyle Hastings, who had been listening, stepped in, and cleared his throat. ''Mister Rivers, she is Chelsy Powers, the new intern that was recommended from Wolverton.''
When Daniel heard this he looked at Chelsy with so much admiration. ''Wow. So your name is Chelsy. What a lovely name. You are not only kind, but smart as well. So you are the valedictorian that was recommended here?''
Daniel extended his hand and said, ''It is nice meeting you Miss Powers.'' Chelsy was all flustered as everyone's gaze was on her.
She gave an awkward smile and shook Daniel's hand. ''The pleasure is all mine Sir Rivers.''
Daniel nodded with a smile and said, ''You know what, after this, can you please come over to my office?''
When Chelsy heard this, she smiled and said, ''Okay Mister Rivers.''
Everyone in the room was stunned. This was the first time the CEO had ever had a conversation with a staff member. Not to talk of inviting them over to his office.
Nicole stood by the side raging with anger. Her anger was so boiling hot in such a way that it could boil a pot of rice.
Was it fate? Or a chance encounter? What will happen when Chelsy goes to Daniel's office? Will it create tension between her and her colleagues, or will Chelsy use this as a means to triumph over her enemies at work?
