Chapter 667 - Chapter 667 Gambling With Life

Since he was already involved, Law decided to see it through completely.

Law knew about Kurapika's other two chain abilities: the Dowsing Chain and the Judgement Chain. The former could be used for lie detection and tracking, while the latter could pierce a target's heart to force compliance with set conditions.

Both abilities were quite special, but Law felt they still had shortcomings. They needed either a complete overhaul or enhancement of their existing foundations.

As for the final chain, it hadn't appeared in Law's memories.

Beyond this, Law was curious about how providing Kurapika with intel on the Troupe's abilities would influence his conceptualization of the remaining three chain abilities.

Nen Abilities created specifically for countering were the most terrifying.

Law looked at Kurapika and began explaining the principles of Vows and Limitations.

"Vows and Limitations can enhance a Nen Ability's effects several times over, if not more."

The very first sentence made Kurapika's eyes light up, 'Were Vows and Limitations the prerequisite for being a Specialist?'

Seeing Kurapika's reaction, Law knew what he was thinking but didn't address it directly, continuing his explanation.

"Vows and Limitations involve setting restrictive conditions and making a solemn vow to abide by them."

"The stricter the limitations, the more potent and focused the ability becomes."

As he spoke, Law summoned the book of God Hand, making it float before him.

"This is my Nen Ability, called God Hand."

"Its primary characteristic is extreme sharpness."

Law glanced at Biscuit, who sighed but stepped forward willingly, releasing her Aura and entering a state of Ken.

"And its limitation is..."

Before he finished, Law lunged forward two steps, also entering Ken, formed his hand into a blade, and cleanly severed Biscuit's arm.

Kurapika, who had been listening intently, was startled by the sudden action.

He then watched as Biscuit calmly caught her severed arm, not a single drop of blood spilling from the wound.

"No physical damage, not even pain. This is God's Hand's limitation. Essentially, it trades raw destructive power for enhanced cutting capability."

"That's why, under equal conditions of offense and defense, I can so easily sever Biscuit's arm."

"To inflict actual, lasting harm, this book is necessary."

Law extended his right hand, and the book flew into his grasp. "I must place the severed body part into this book to cause substantive injury."

"Fulfilling this condition requires adhering to several subsidiary limitations, which I won't detail now."

Law dismissed the book and said calmly, "Understand?"

Such a vivid demonstration made the principles of Vows and Limitations instantly clear, even to someone with poor comprehension, let alone someone as sharp as Kurapika.

Once Kurapika confirmed his understanding, Law reattached Biscuit's arm, then continued, "Vows and Limitations aren't just for Nen Abilities, they have other applications. But their core principle is near-equivalent exchange, making them a double-edged sword."

"Let's use your Holy Chain as an example."

"Limitation one: Target restriction. The healing can only be applied to yourself, not others. While not extremely strict, this can still enhance the healing effect somewhat."

"Limitation two: Lifespan cost. Each use of healing consumes a portion of your lifespan. This is a severe limitation and should drastically increase the healing speed."

"Limitation three: Usage limit. The Healing Chain can only be used once per day. Countless such limitations exist. You can tailor them based on your desired effects."

"Using Vows and Limitations to boost your abilities is one path you can take. But your true trump card lies in your Scarlet Eyes."

Kurapika's pupils contracted. "My Scarlet Eyes?"

"Yes. First, concentrate Aura in your eyes," Law instructed.

Kurapika complied, gathering Aura in his eyes.

Seeing this, Law raised his index finger and used his Nen to create the Phantom Troupe's spider tattoo mark.

The sight of the Nen-constructed spider mark stimulated Kurapika. His eyes instantly turned scarlet, and the Aura around him intensified dramatically.

Biscuit, witnessing the transformation, was taken aback.

'So the Kurta bloodline held this power?' It reminded her of certain lineages from the Dark Continent.

"This is the second time your eyes have turned scarlet since learning Nen. Focus on the difference," Law said calmly.

Kurapika looked down at his hands, clearly feeling the internal changes, and suddenly understood.

'Another application of Vows and Limitations...'

'So, the very trigger for my loss was also the trump card I could wield.'

'Scarlet Eyes, Scarlet Eyes...'

'To reclaim my clansmen's eyes, to drag those monsters to hell.'

'What I could rely on was still these eyes.'

For some reason, a sharp pain pierced his heart, as if bound by invisible chains.

Kurapika let out a low, cold laugh, then slowly raised his head, his voice unnervingly calm. "I know what to do now."

Law silently watched the tears tracing paths down Kurapika's blood-red eyes, wondering if he had made a mistake.

Biscuit observed their interaction, sensing there were depths to this matter she wasn't privy to.

Time flowed, and three months passed in a blink.

Kurapika had been training under Law for nearly half a year.

During this period, armed with intel on the Phantom Troupe and guided by suggestions from Law and Biscuit, Kurapika developed three additional chain abilities.

Some of these abilities incorporated the concept of turning the enemy's methods against them.

After ability development came daily practical training, with over ten sparring sessions per day, to sharpen combat experience while simultaneously consolidating and refining Advanced Nen Techniques.

The Hunter Association's instructors for new recruits typically only taught the four basic Nen principles, not advanced techniques.

Even Wing, tasked with teaching Gon and Killua, would, despite Law's specific request, stick to the four basics and avoid advanced techniques, adhering to Association's policy.

But Law wasn't an Association's instructor. He not only taught Kurapika all the advanced techniques but also, together with Biscuit, rigorously honed Kurapika's skills.

It was now mid-July, the sun blazing fiercely.

Law stood on a cliff edge, gazing down at the waterfall below. "Do you feel it's unfair?"

Kurapika stood beside him, shook his head, and replied, "No. Only this way can I use this power with a clear conscience. Besides, I know you're special, Master. That's why you don't carry such harsh limitations."

Law fell silent.

Kurapika's Emperor Time, active when his Scarlet Eyes were ignited, allowed him to use any Nen type at 100% efficiency. Its limitation was simple yet brutal: every second of use cost him one hour of his lifespan.

This was a cost Law hadn't anticipated, as he forgot there's such a thing in the original work.

Hence Law's question about resentment, for he himself could utilize all Nen types at 100% without any such price.

"Kurapika," Law said.

"Yes?"

"I will assist you in retrieving all your clansmen's eyes."

Not help, but assist.

A summer breeze swept by, playfully ruffling Kurapika's hair. He turned his head, studying Law's profile, momentarily lost in thought.

He, who wished to bear all burdens alone, found himself, for reasons he couldn't explain, unable to voice a refusal to Law.
