Chapter 299 - Chapter 299 Retreat

If it were under normal circumstances, even if Kuro had devoured all his Aura, Law wouldn't have thought much of it.

After all, it'd be no different from using up all his Aura during regular Ren training, and he'd just need a day of rest to recover.

But right now, in the middle of enemy territory, Kuro has swallowed up about 70% of Law's Potential Aura, which undoubtedly deprives him of the advantages he originally possessed.

Even if it was technically part of Kuro's ability rules, it was still a pretty nasty move.

Law understood how Kuro operated. For instance, right now, he knew that if he simply gave Kuro an order, he would hardly work hard without any benefits. So instead, Law threw himself into Dove's attack range and didn't make a single move to defend himself.

[Law can't die!]

That line was etched deep into Kuro's soul, because if Law died, he'd be dragged to the grave along with him.

That was the core of Kuro's existence, and also the responsibility he needs to shoulder behind his independent and special soul. Even if he didn't always obey, he still had to be an unruly bodyguard at the end of the day.

So, instead of ordering Kuro to fight Dove, Law laid the decision bare.

The choice was this: If I die, you're coming with me. Right now, I don't feel like wasting energy on this guy. There's a high chance I'll get one-shotted. So, are you going to just stand there and watch me die, or are you going to step in and deal with him?

'What kind of shitty choice is that?'

'It's not even a real choice!'

Kuro cursed in his mind, rushed to Law's side, and used his body to block the punch from Dove. At the cost of consuming some of his Aura, he managed to knock Dove away.

Dove adjusted his posture in the air, then landed steadily, looking towards Law and Kuro with a rather cold gaze.

Judging from Law's actions, he obviously wanted to rescue Sanbica, but Dove was not in a hurry, because the life-restricted zone set up by Sanbica had not completely disappeared.

Under those conditions, Law wouldn't be able to move her anytime soon.

Dove pulled out his phone and said, "Old Prison Block G, Cell 331."

After stating the location, he put away his phone and gave the order to the artificial creatures in the submarine to come here.

He wanted the artificial creatures and his companions to come over and surround the place first.

Meanwhile, Law had carved a passage through the glass wall and stepped into the cell. He walked toward Sanbica, who sat curled up on the ground, with her knees hugged to her chest.

Kuro stood in front of the hole in the glass wall, looked back at Law, who was completely ignoring the situation, and said helplessly: "You are so cruel!"

'He actually used his own life to force me to take action. It was really cruel, but damn it, that trick worked every time!'

This is equivalent to him finally getting a chance to steal something, but there is a high possibility that he will have to spit out what he has swallowed.

"Hurry it up. I don't want to waste the Aura I have accumulated with great difficulty."

Kuro growled at Law, but Law ignored him and stepped within two meters of Sanbica, his expression quickly darkened.

At this time, Sanbica closed her eyes and curled up on the ground with her knees hugged.

Her clothes were stained with layers of grime that couldn't be washed out, with visible traces of dried blood. There were also many traces of blood on her mask.

A dark green Aura radiated out in a circle around her, exuding a presence that screamed 'do not enter'.

Law knew that it was a virus that Sanbica had conjured through her Nen Ability. It didn't need cells or living hosts, but it still possessed the characteristics and threats of a deadly virus.

But right now, Sanbica looked like a candle flickering in the wind. Not only is her Aura clearly nearing depletion, but her injuries may not have been treated for a long time, and it is unknown how badly they have deteriorated.

Law took a deep breath, suppressed the urge to turn around and kill the guy in the white coat, and stepped into the dark green danger zone.

He knew that he couldn't continue fighting in the current situation. It wouldn't be long before the twenty or so Nen Users, who were chasing him before, to arrive here.

Therefore, his top priority is to take Sanbica away and return to the Hunter Association as soon as possible so that Sanbica can receive treatment.

Seeing Law's suicidal act of stepping into the restricted area, Dove suddenly restrained the Aura surging in his body and watched Law approaching Sanbica step by step with interest.

"You've really got no fear of death, huh? That zone contains a mixture of at least ten deadly viruses." Dove said in a cold tone.

Seeing that the man in the white coat seemed to have no desire to attack, Kuro naturally had no intention of attacking either. Rather than wasting his Aura to deal with this person who seemed like a tough opponent, was way more satisfying to slaughter those powerless prison guards.

Both options would increase the number of blacked-out pages in his book, but the effort-to-reward ratio was worlds apart.

By the time Dove spoke, Law had already stepped fully into the dark green restricted zone, standing directly in front of Sanbica.

That unknown substance, which is dyed like deep green ink, could only be perceived by Nen Users.

As soon as Law stepped inside, it seemed to come alive. They latched onto the soles of his shoes, then slowly creeping up his pants like a living thing, spreading upward.

It was a direct invasion by lethal virus particles!

Dove knew it clearly, so how could Law not know it?

But Law ignored the dark green substance crawling up his legs and slowly turned to glare coldly at Dove, and then said in a deep voice: "Maybe not now, but, you are dead..."

The dark green unidentified objects clung to Law's arms, neck, and cheeks, forming irregular patterns across his skin, exuding a hint of coldness and a strange kind of eerie beauty.

These were deadly viruses formed entirely from Nen. To an outsider, they appeared to be infiltrating Law's body, but in fact, they are blocked by a layer of Aura membrane constructed by Law with God Hand, leaving him completely unharmed.

However, the moment the dark green virus latched onto the Aura membrane, Law immediately understood just how tricky this thing was. It could actually use the target's Aura as a breeding ground or carrier, feeding off of it to grow and spread.

In other words, once his Aura was depleted, the virus would have everything it needed to kill him almost instantly.

Hearing Law's firm words announcing his death sentence, Dove seemed to have heard the biggest joke of the century and let out a few sharp laughs.

He narrowed his eyes at Luo and said coldly: "Even setting aside that 'gift' clinging to you, do you really think you're getting out of here alive?"

His companions and the artificial creatures were already closing in from all directions, but seeing Law walk straight into that kill zone, Dove figured the problem had practically solved itself.

Law ignored Dove and did not remove the deadly virus attached to the Nen membrane, because that would've been a waste of energy.

Instead, he crouched down and gently picked up the unconscious Sanbica in his arms.

The moment his body made contact with hers, the speed of the deadly virus's invasion suddenly increased. After all, the source was Sanbica herself.

Within seconds, Law's body was smeared in patches of the dark green substance… like someone had doused him in thick paint. He wasn't completely covered, but there weren't many clean spots left either.

"Move. Make a path."

Holding Sanbica in a princess carry, Law stared at the wall in front of him.

Right now, he had to split his focus to suppress the Nen Virus released by the unconscious Sanbica. If the enemy closed in and surrounded them, it would be a real nightmare.

"Tch."

Rather than staying here to fight, Kuro would rather Law slip away from this place quickly.

Therefore, seeing that Law chose to run away, Kuro didn't slack off at all. Ignoring Dove completely, he dashed toward the wall ahead and slashed open a passage with one swipe of his claws.

Under Dove's puzzled gaze, Kuro directly broke through the wall and created a passage, while Law, who was covered in virus, looked completely unaffected.

He followed behind with Sanbica in his arms, moving at full speed.

"What the hell…?"

Dove was puzzled. Logically speaking, based on how badly Law looked infected, he should've collapsed within seconds.

Although he didn't what trick Law had pulled, there was no way he'd let Law escape with Sanbica. Because of that, Dove immediately mobilized the artificial creatures and took off after them.
